If lord Siva bears his energy in his own self, of what use is it to the world? The scriptures say ‘what is in man in the form of semen is the form of energy in the Sun. That form of energy is light which is the disc of the Sun itself. In that circle the whole world is being protected, if the reverse happens, there will be a calamity (Viparyaye Viparyaya).’ If the sun perishes the whole world will collapse.
Siva says, ‘I along with Uma, will bear the fire of my energy in my own self’. So he bears the semen. It will turn into fire (blood) in women. Since this world cannot withstand the extraordinary energy, if released, there would be devastation. This is the sense.
The gods said, ‘This earth will bear it because it has unlimited power of forbearance’. This is the implied sense. The gods engaged Agni to receive the energy released on the earth as he is the lord and well-wisher of the earth. The wind which accompanied him helped him move. That energy acquired the form of the white mountain and having entered the earth by means of Agni, was moving (as he carried it). Then that energy got the form of a thicket of needles like the fire of the Sun at the place of its entry as a result of its greatness. Since Agni carried the energy for some time, it should be noted, Karttikeya originated from Agni. There was joy among the gods that Siva’s energy was borne for the benefit of the world and that the energy that fell transformed into Kartikeya for the sake of the gods. But there was anger in Uma, for Siva did not accept Uma engaged in his worship. She cursed the Earth, saying ‘Be not in one form. May you give fruits for a variety of seeds in the same field. Be wife to many husbands (Lords of the earth or kings).
The implication is, ‘If only she (earth) had not conceded to bear the energy of Siva, Uma would have received it. She would have had that son’.
