Manthara sows seeds of dissension 2.7.1-16

With an eye on the mission of destroying the wicked Ravana, the gods instigated Manthara to sow the seeds of dissention through her secret overtures to Kaikeyi to stop the coronation of Rama.
It is only natural that the servants have the interest of their lady. There is also jealousy rooted in their hearts with regard to the agnates. Hence they are apt to undo what is auspicious and propitious to the agnates. The reference to ‘unknown birth’ suggests her evil design. It also suggests that such a wicked lady could not have been born in Ayodhya, the pious city.


Kaikeyi’s immediate response to Rama’s consecration 2.7.31-36

Kaikeyi, born of a noble royal family and the queen of a renowned king, by her natural nobility considers Rama’s consecration a highly auspicious event.
