[Viswamitra confers celestial weapons on Rama]

అథ thereafter, మహాయశాః illustrious, విశ్వామిత్రః Visvamitra, తాం రజనీమ్ that night, ఉష్య having stayed, ప్రహస్య smiling, రాఘవమ్ addresseing, మధురాక్షరమ్ with sweet accents, వాక్యమ్ these words, ఉవాచ spoke.
The night over, illustrious Viswamitra called Rama with a sweet smile.
పరితుష్టోస్మి భద్రం తే రాజపుత్ర! మహాయశః.
ప్రీత్యా పరమయా యుక్తో దదామ్యస్త్రాణి సర్వశః৷৷1.27.2৷৷
ప్రీత్యా పరమయా యుక్తో దదామ్యస్త్రాణి సర్వశః৷৷1.27.2৷৷
మహాయశః of great renown, రాజపుత్ర O! Prince, పరితుష్టః అస్మి I am extremely pleased, తే భద్రమ్ May you prosper, పరమయా ప్రీత్యా with great love and affection, యుక్తః filled with, అస్త్రాణి weapons, సర్వశః from all over, దదామి I shall give.
"O prince of great renown, I am extremely pleased. May you prosper! Out of great love and affection for you I shall make over all the weapons.
దేవాసురగణాన్వాపి సగన్ధర్వోరగానపి.
యైరమిత్రాన్ ప్రసహ్యాజౌ వశీకృత్య జయిష్యసి৷৷1.27.3৷৷
తాని దివ్యాని భద్రం తే దదామ్యస్త్రాణి సర్వశః .
యైరమిత్రాన్ ప్రసహ్యాజౌ వశీకృత్య జయిష్యసి৷৷1.27.3৷৷
తాని దివ్యాని భద్రం తే దదామ్యస్త్రాణి సర్వశః .
యైః by means of which, దేవాసురగణాన్వాపి even multitude of devatas, asuras, సగన్ధర్వోరగానపి nagas together with gandharvas, అమిత్రాన్ enemies, ఆజౌ in the battle, ప్రసహ్య forcibly, వశీకృత్య taking them captives, జయిష్యసి you will vanquish, తాని దివ్యాని such celestial, అస్త్రాణి weapons, సర్వశః completely, దదామి I shall give, తే భద్రమ్ May you prosper.
With the help of these celestial weapons, you will vanquish even gods and demons, serpents together with gandharvas if they challenge you to a battle as enemies and take them as captives. I shall confer on you all such weapons. May you prosper!

అస్త్రం బ్రహ్మశిరశ్చైవ ఐషీకమపి రాఘవ৷৷1.27.6৷৷
దదామి తే మహాబాహో! బ్రాహ్మమస్త్రమనుత్తమమ్.
ధర్మచక్రం తతో వీర! కాలచక్రం తథైవ చ.
విష్ణుచక్రం తథాత్యుగ్రమైన్ద్రమస్త్రం తథైవ చ৷৷1.27.5৷৷
వజ్రమస్త్రం నరశ్రేష్ఠ శైవం శూలవరం తథా.
అస్త్రం బ్రహ్మశిరశ్చైవ ఐషీకమపి రాఘవ৷৷1.27.6৷৷
దదామి తే మహాబాహో! బ్రాహ్మమస్త్రమనుత్తమమ్.
రాఘవ Rama!, మహత్ great, దివ్యమ్ celestial, దణ్డచక్రమ్ Danda chakra, తవ to you, దాస్యామి I shall grant, నరశ్రేష్ఠ O! Best among men, మహాబాహో mighty armed one, వీర heroic, రాఘవ Rama, తతః thereafter, ధర్మచక్రమ్ Dharma chakra తథైవ చ also, కాలచక్రమ్ Kala chakra, తథా also, విష్ణుచక్రమ్ Visnu chakra, తథైవ చ also, ఐన్ద్రమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Indra-Astra, వజ్రమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Vajra astra, తథా thereafter, శైవమ్ relating to Shiva, శూలవరమ్ superior spear, బ్రహ్మశిర known as Brahma Shira, అస్త్రమ్ astra, ఐషీకమపి Ishika astra, అనుత్తమమ్ highly superior, బ్రాహ్మమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Brahma astra, తే to you, దదామి I shall give.
Mighty armed, heroic Rama! I shall grant you the great celestial dandachakra. O best among men! I shall grant you dharmachakra, kalachakra, visnuchakra, indraastra, vajraastra and the great, trident of Siva, brahmashirastra, ishika astra and highly superior brahmaastra.
గదే ద్వే చైవ కాకుత్స్థ మోదకీ శిఖరీ ఉభే৷৷1.27.7৷৷
ప్రదీప్తే నరశార్దూల ప్రయచ్ఛామి నృపాత్మజ.
ప్రదీప్తే నరశార్దూల ప్రయచ్ఛామి నృపాత్మజ.
కాకుత్స్థ born in the race of Kakutstha, నరశార్దూల best among men, నృపాత్మజ O! Prince, Rama, ప్రదీప్తే shining, ద్వే two, మోదకీ శిఖరీ Modaki and Shikhari, గదే two Maces, ఉభే both of them, ప్రయచ్ఛామి I shall give.
Born in the race of kakutstha and a tiger among men, O Rama! I shall also grant two shining maces known as modaki and shikhari.
ధర్మపాశమహం రామ! కాలపాశం తథైవ చ৷৷1.27.8৷৷
పాశం వారుణమస్త్రం చ దదామ్యహమనుత్తమమ్.
పాశం వారుణమస్త్రం చ దదామ్యహమనుత్తమమ్.
రామ O! Rama, అహమ్ I, ధర్మపాశమ్ Dharma Pasa, తథైవ చ and also, కాలపాశమ్ Kala Pasa, వారుణమ్ relating to Varuna, పాశమ్ Pasa, అస్త్రం చ and also an astra, అనుత్తమమ్ చ highly superior, దదామి I shall grant.
Rama, I shall grant dharmapasa, kalapasa, varuna pasa, too unique weapons.
అశనీ ద్వే ప్రయచ్ఛామి శుష్కార్ద్రే రఘునన్దన৷৷1.27.9৷৷
దదామి చాస్త్రం పైనాకమస్త్రం నారాయణం తథా.
దదామి చాస్త్రం పైనాకమస్త్రం నారాయణం తథా.
రఘునన్దన O! Descendent of Raghu, Rama, శుష్కార్ద్రే Shuska and Ardra, (dry and wet), ద్వే two, అశనీ thunderbolts, పైనాకమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Painaka astra, తథా and, నారాయణమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Narayana astra, దదామి I shall grant.
O descendant of Raghu! I shall grant you two thunderbolts named shuska and ardra (dry and wet), painaka astra and narayanaastra.
ఆగ్నేయమస్త్రం దయితం శిఖరం నామ నామతః৷৷1.27.10৷৷
వాయవ్యం ప్రథనం నామ దదామి చ తవానఘ .
వాయవ్యం ప్రథనం నామ దదామి చ తవానఘ .
అనఘ O! Blemishless one, నామతః by name, శిఖరం నామ well-known as Sikhara, దయితమ్ a dear one, ఆగ్నేయమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Agneya astra, ప్రథనం నామ by name Prathana, వాయవ్యమ్ Vayavya astra, తవ to you, దదామి shall grant.
O blemishless Rama! I shall grant you agneyaastra known as sikhara which is my
favour weapon and vayavyaastra known as prathana৷৷
అస్త్రం హయశిరో నామ క్రౌఞ్చమస్త్రం తథైవ చ.
శక్తిద్వయం చ కాకుత్స్థ! దదామి తవ రాఘవ৷৷1.27.11৷৷

కాకుత్స్థ born in the Kakutstha race, రాఘవ Rama!, హయశిరో నామ named Hayasira, అస్త్రమ్ astra, తథైవ చ also, క్రౌఞ్చమస్త్రమ్ Krauncha astra, శక్తిద్వయం చ two powers, తవ to you, దదామి I shall grant.
O Rama! bron in the Kakutstha race, I shall grant you two powers named hayasira (Horse head) and kraunchaastra.
కఙ్కాలం ముసలం ఘోరం కాపాలమథ కఙ్కణమ్.
ధారయన్త్యసురా యాని దదామ్యేతాని సర్వశః৷৷1.27.12৷৷
ధారయన్త్యసురా యాని దదామ్యేతాని సర్వశః৷৷1.27.12৷৷
ఘోరమ్ dreadful, కఙ్కాలమ్ Kankala, ముసలమ్ pounding pestle, కాపాలమ్ Kapala, అథ and, కఙ్కణమ్ Kankana, యాని all these, అసురాః asuras, ధారయన్తి are holding, ఏతాని such weapons, సర్వశః completely, దదామి I shall grant.
I shall grant all these weapons, the dreadful kankala, pestle kapala and kankana used by asuras.
వైద్యాధరం మహాస్త్రం చ నన్దనం నామ నామతః.
అసిరత్నం మహాబాహో దదామి చ నృపాత్మజ৷৷1.27.13৷৷

మహాబాహో O! Mighty armed one, నృపాత్మజ O! Prince, వైద్యాధరమ్ pertaining to Vaidyadharas, మహాస్త్రం చ maha astra, నామతః by name, నన్దనం నామ known as Nandana, అసిరత్నమ్ excellent scimitar, దదామి I shall grant.
O mighty-armed prince, I shall grant mahaastra, vaidyadhara and and an excellent scimitar known as nandana.
గాన్ధర్వమస్త్రం దయితం మానవం నామ నామతః.
ప్రస్వాపనప్రశమనే దద్మి సౌరం చ రాఘవ৷৷1.27.14৷৷

రాఘవ O! Rama, గాన్ధర్వమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Gandharva astra, నామతః by name, మానవం నామ known as Manava, దయితమ్ much favoured, ప్రస్వాపన ప్రశమనే inducing and suppressing sleep, సౌరం చ Saura astra, దద్మి I shall grant.
Rama, I shall grant two much favoured weapons namely gandharvaastras, manava astra, which induce and suppress sleep and sauraastra as well.
దర్పణం శోషణం చైవ సన్తాపనవిలాపనే.
మదనం చైవ దుర్ధర్షం కన్దర్పదయితం తథా৷৷1.27.15৷৷
పైశాచమస్త్రం దయితం మోహనం నామ నామతః.
ప్రతీచ్ఛ నరశార్దూల! రాజపుత్ర! మహాయశః৷৷1.27.16৷৷
మదనం చైవ దుర్ధర్షం కన్దర్పదయితం తథా৷৷1.27.15৷৷
పైశాచమస్త్రం దయితం మోహనం నామ నామతః.
ప్రతీచ్ఛ నరశార్దూల! రాజపుత్ర! మహాయశః৷৷1.27.16৷৷
మహాయశః O! Highly renowned one, నరశార్దూల O! Best among men, రాజపుత్ర O! Prince, దర్పణమ్ darpana, శోషణం చైవ soshana(the parching weapon), సన్తాపనవిలాపనే Santhapana, Vilapana (those which induce sorrow and wailing), తథా also, దుర్ధర్షమ్ unassailable, కన్దర్పదయితమ్ favoured by Manmatha, మదనం చ Madana, నామతః by name, మోహనం నామ known as Mohana, దయితమ్ favoured one, పైశాచమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Paisacha Astra, ప్రతీచ్ఛ you may receive.
O renowned prince, best among men, receive these astras known as darpana, soshana, santhapana, vilapana, madana astra, the unassailable one favoured by kamadeva and the paisacha astra known as mohana favoured by demons.
తామసం నరశార్దూల! సౌమనం చ మహాబల.
సంవర్ధం చైవ దుర్ధర్షం మౌసలం చ నృపాత్మజ৷৷1.27.17৷৷
సత్యమస్త్రం మహాబాహో తథా మాయాధరం పరమ్.
ఘోరం తేజః ప్రభం నామ పరతేజోపకర్షణమ్৷৷1.27.18৷৷
సౌమ్యాస్త్రం శిశిరం నామ త్వష్టురస్త్రం సుదామనమ్.
దారుణం చ భగస్యాపి శితేషు మథ మానవమ్৷৷1.27.19৷৷
సంవర్ధం చైవ దుర్ధర్షం మౌసలం చ నృపాత్మజ৷৷1.27.17৷৷
సత్యమస్త్రం మహాబాహో తథా మాయాధరం పరమ్.
ఘోరం తేజః ప్రభం నామ పరతేజోపకర్షణమ్৷৷1.27.18৷৷
సౌమ్యాస్త్రం శిశిరం నామ త్వష్టురస్త్రం సుదామనమ్.
దారుణం చ భగస్యాపి శితేషు మథ మానవమ్৷৷1.27.19৷৷
నరశార్దూల O! Best among men, మహాబల highly strong, నృపాత్మజ O! Prince, తామసమ్ Tamasa, సౌమనం చైవ Saumana, దుర్ధర్షమ్ చైవ also unassilable, సంవర్ధం Samavardha, మౌసలమ్ Mausala, సత్యమ్ అస్త్రమ్ Satya astra, పరమ్ supreme, మాయాధరమ్ Maya dhara astra, పరతేజోపకర్షణమ్ removing the energy of the opponent, ఘోరమ్ fearful, తేజః ప్రభమ్ నామ named Teja Prabha, శిశిరం నామ named Sisira, సౌమ్యాస్త్రమ్ Saumya astra(a soft weapon), సుదామనమ్ supremely formidable, త్వష్టుః Twashtu's, అస్త్రమ్ astra, భగస్య Bhaga's, దారుణమ్ terrible, శితేషుమ్ sharp-arrowed astra, అథ and, మానవమ్ Manava, ప్రతీచ్ఛస్వ accept.
O tiger among men! mighty prince!, accept tamasa and saumanaastras, the unassailable, samavardha weapon, mausala, satyaastra, the supreme mayadhara astra, the terrible tejaprabhaastra capable of removing the energy of the opponent, a soft weapon called sisira, supremely formidable twashtus astra, Bhaga's terrible shiteshuastra (sharp arrowed one) and manava astra.
ఏతాన్ రామ! మహాబాహో! కామరూపాన్ మహాబలాన్ .
గృహాణ పరమోదారాన్ క్షిప్రమేవ నృపాత్మజ৷৷1.27.20৷৷

మహాబాహో O! Mighty armed one, నృపాత్మజ O! Prince, రామ O! Rama, కామరూపాన్ capable of assuming any form at will, మహాబలాన్ mighty, పరమోదారాన్ highly exalted, ఏతాన్ these astras, క్షిప్రమేవ immediately, గృహాణ you may receive.
O Rama! mighty-armed prince, receive these mighty and highly exalted astras capable of assuming at once any form at will".
స్థితస్తు ప్రాఙ్ముఖో భూత్వా శుచిర్మునివరస్తదా.
దదౌ రామాయ సుప్రీతో మన్త్రగ్రామమనుత్తమమ్৷৷1.27.21৷৷
దదౌ రామాయ సుప్రీతో మన్త్రగ్రామమనుత్తమమ్৷৷1.27.21৷৷
తదా thereafter, మునివర he exalted one among ascetics, శుచి having purified himself, ప్రఙ్ముఖః turning his face towards east, స్థితః భూత్వా standing, సుప్రీతః well-pleased, రామాయ for Rama, అనుత్తమమ్ pre-eminently best, మన్త్రగ్రామమ్ collection of mantras, దదౌ gave.
Viswamitra, the greatest ascetic after the purification ritual stood with his face turned east and happily, conferred on Rama collection of the unique mantras.
సర్వసఙ్గ్రహణం యేషాం దైవతైరపి దుర్లభమ్.
తాన్యస్త్రాణి తదా విప్రో రాఘవాయ న్యవేదయత్৷৷1.27.22৷৷
తాన్యస్త్రాణి తదా విప్రో రాఘవాయ న్యవేదయత్৷৷1.27.22৷৷
యేషామ్ of those weapons', సర్వసఙ్గ్రహణమ్ complete acquisition, దైవతైరపి even by the celestials, దుర్లభమ్ difficult to be attained, తాని such, అస్త్రాణి astras, తదా then, విప్రః Visvamitra, రాఘవాయ for Rama, న్యవేదయత్ made known.
The sage offered Rama the complete collection of those weapons which even the celestials find it difficult to acquire.
జపతస్తు మునేస్తస్య విశ్వామిత్రస్య ధీమతః.
ఉపతస్థుర్మహార్హాణి సర్వాణ్యస్త్రాణి రాఘవమ్৷৷1.27.23৷৷
ఉపతస్థుర్మహార్హాణి సర్వాణ్యస్త్రాణి రాఘవమ్৷৷1.27.23৷৷
ధీమతః of the sagacious, తస్య మునేః ascetic Viswamitra, జపతః while muttering in a subdued tone, మహార్హాణి venerable, అస్త్రాణి astras, సర్వాణి all, రాఘవమ్ for Rama, ఉపతస్థుః (reached) served.
While the sagacious ascetic Viswamitra was muttering the mystic terms of these venerable astras (addressing their respective deities), all these weapons (with their mystic power) attended on Rama.
ఊచుశ్చ ముదితాస్సర్వే రామం ప్రాఞ్జలయస్తదా.
ఇమే స్మ పరమోదారాః కిఙ్కరాస్తవ రాఘవ৷৷1.27.24৷৷
ఇమే స్మ పరమోదారాః కిఙ్కరాస్తవ రాఘవ৷৷1.27.24৷৷
పరమోదారాః highly munificient, సర్వే all presiding deities of the weapons, తదా then, ప్రఞ్జలయః with folded palms, ఊచుశ్చ uttered, రాఘవ Rama, ఇమే స్మ here we are, తవ your, కిఙ్కరాః servants.
The munificient presiding deities of the weapons with folded palms addressed these words to Rama saying, "Here we are, at you disposal !".
ప్రతిగృహ్య చ కాకుత్స్థః సమాలభ్య చ పాణినా.
మానసా మే భవిష్యధ్వమితి తానభ్యచోదయత్৷৷1.27.25৷৷
మానసా మే భవిష్యధ్వమితి తానభ్యచోదయత్৷৷1.27.25৷৷
కాకుత్స్థ O! Rama, ప్రతిగృహ్య haivng received them, పాణినా with hand, సమాలభ్య touching them, మే my, మానసాః భవిష్యధ్వమ్ ఇతి be recorded in my mind, saying so, తాన్ them, అభ్యచోదయత్ ordered them.
Rama received the astras he felt with his hands and commanded them saying, "Live in my mind" (serve me whenever I remember you).
తతః ప్రీతమనా రామో విశ్వామిత్రం మహామునిమ్.
అభివాద్య మహాతేజా గమనాయోపచక్రమే৷৷1.27.26৷৷
అభివాద్య మహాతేజా గమనాయోపచక్రమే৷৷1.27.26৷৷
తతః thereafter, మహాతేజాః highly splendorous, రామః Rama, ప్రీతమనాః with pleased mind , విశ్వామిత్రం Visvamitra, మహామునిమ్ mighty ascetic, అభివాద్య bowing with respect, గమనాయ for his journey, ఉపచక్రమే commenced.
Thereafter, the cheerful Rama, bowed to the mighty ascetic Viswamitra and commenced his journey.
ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే వాల్మీకీయ ఆదికావ్యే బాలకాణ్డే సప్తవింశస్సర్గః৷৷
Thus ends the twentyseventh sarga of Balakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
