[Kausalya performs benedictory rites for Rama and offers prayers to all gods to protect him- Rama departs for the palace of Sita.]

sā.vanīya tamāyāsamupaspṛśya jalaṅ śuciḥ.

cakāra mātā rāmasya maṅgalāni manasvinī৷৷2.25.1৷৷


manasvinī high-minded lady, mātā mother, sā she, tam āyāsam such anguish, avanīya
restraining, jalam water, upaspṛśya having performed the sipping (achamana), śuciḥ rite sure, rāmasya of Rama, maṅgalāni auspicious ceremonies, cakāra performed.

High-minded mother Kausalya, her anguish subdued, performed the sipping rite (achamana) and her self rendered pure, performed auspicious ceremonies for Rama.
na śakyasē vārayituṅ gacchēdānīṅ raghūttama.

śīghraṅ ca vinivartasva vartasva ca satāṅ kramē৷৷2.25.2৷৷


raghūttama O the best among descendants of Raghu, vārayitum to dissuade, na śakyasē not able, idānīm now, gaccha go, śīghram soon, vinivartasva return, satām of good men, kramē in footsteps, vartasva follow.

I am unable to dissuade you, O the best among the descendants of Raghus, from going into the forest. Go now and return soon. Follow in the footsteps of the virtuous.
yaṅ pālayasi dharmaṅ tvaṅ dhṛtyā ca niyamēna ca.

sa vai rāghavaśārdūla! dharmastvāmabhirakṣatu৷৷2.25.3৷৷


rāghavaśārdūla O tiger among the descendants of Raghu! tvam you, dhṛtyā with courage, niyamēna ca with self-discipline, yaṅ dharmam which duty, pālayasi you are carrying out, saḥ dharmaḥ vai that duty alone, tvām you, abhirakṣatu let it protect.

The duty which you are carrying out with courage and self-discipline, O tiger among the descendants of Raghu! will alone protect you.
yēbhyaḥ praṇamasē putra! caityēṣvāyatanēṣu ca.

tē ca tvāmabhirakṣantu vanē saha maharṣibhiḥ৷৷2.25.4৷৷


putra son, caityēṣu in sacred places, āyatanēṣu ca in temples, yēbhyaḥ to whom, praṇamasē you are saluting, tē they, maharṣibhiḥ saha together with maharshis, tvām you, vanē in the forest, abhirakṣantu protect you.

O my son! may the gods in the temples and in other sacred places and the maharshis you bow to protect you in the forest!
yāni dattāni tē.strāṇi viśvāmitrēṇa dhīmatā.

tāni tvāmabhirakṣantu guṇaissamuditaṅ sadā৷৷2.25.5৷৷


dhīmatā by the sagacious, viśvāmitrēṇa by Viswamitra, tē to you, yāni astrāṇi those weapons, dattāni were bestowed, tāni they, guṇaiḥ with (mantric) qualities, samuditam endowed, tvām you, sadā always, abhirakṣantu may protect.

May the weapons endowed with mantric qualities, which were bestowed on you by sagacious Viswamitra always protect you!
pitṛśuśrūṣayā putra! mātṛśuśrūṣayā tathā.

satyēna ca mahābāhō! ciraṅ jīvābhirakṣitaḥ৷৷2.25.6৷৷


mahābāhō O mighty armed, putra son, pitṛśuśrūṣayā in the service of your father, tathā also, mātṛśuśrūṣayā in the service of your mother, satyēna with truth, abhirakṣitaḥ you have been protected, ciraṅ jīva live long.

O my mighty- armed son! protected by the service to your father, mother and to
truth, live long!
samitkuśa pavitrāṇi vēdyaścāyatanāni ca.

sthaṇḍilāni vicitrāṇi śailā vṛkṣāḥ kṣupā hradāḥ৷৷2.25.7৷৷

pataṅgāḥ pannagāssiṅhāstvāṅ rakṣantu narōttama.


narōttama best among men, samitkuśa pavitrāṇi sacrificial fuel, kusha grass and sacred finger rings made of kusa grass, vēdyaśca sacrificial altars, āyatanāni ca temples also, vicitrāṇi various one, sthaṇḍilāni levelled sacrificial grounds, śailāḥ mountains, vṛkṣāḥ trees, kṣupā:
plants, hradāḥ lakes, pataṅgā: birds, pannagāḥ serpents, siṅhāḥ lions, tvām you, rakṣantu may protect.

O best of men! may sacrificial fuel, kusa grass and sacred rings made of kusha grass, sacrificial altars, temples, various levelled sacrificial grounds, mountains, trees, plants, lakes, birds, serpents and lions protect you!
svastisādhyāśca viśvē ca marutaśca maharṣayaḥ.

svasti dhātā vidhātā ca svasti pūṣā bhagō.ryamā৷৷2.25.8৷৷

lōkapālāśca tē sarvē vāsavapramukhāstathā.


sādhyāśca devatas known as 'Sadhyas', viśvē ca viswe devatas, marutaśca maruts (wind-god), maharṣayaḥ the great ascetics, svasti expiatory mantras, dhātā sustainer (Virat Purusha), vidhātā ca the preserver of creation (lord Brahma), svasti bestow blessings to you, pūṣā Sun, bhagaḥ the Sun known as Bhaga, aryamā the Sun known as Aryama, tathā also, vāsavapramukhāḥ others headed by Indra, sarvē all, tē lōkapālāśca guardians of the world.

May all gods known as Sadhyas, Visvedevatas, Maruts, great ascetics, the sustainer (Virat Purusha), the preserver of creation (lord Brahma), Sun, Bhaga, Aryama, and all other important guardians of the world headed by Indra bestow their blessings on you!
ṛtavaścaiva pakṣāśca māsā ssaṅvatsarāḥ kṣapāḥ৷৷2.25.9৷৷

dināni ca muhūrtāśca svasti kurvantu tē sadā.


ṛtavaścaiva six seasons also, pakṣāśca two fort nights, māsāḥ months, saṅvatsarāḥ years, kṣapā: nights, dināni ca days also, muhūrtāśca moments (each 48 minutes), tē to you, sadā always, svasti kurvantu may bring propitiousness to you.

May the six seasons, years, months, fortnights, nights, days and moments bring good to you!
smṛtirdhṛtiśca dharmaśca pātu tvāṅ putra! sarvataḥ৷৷2.25.10৷৷

skandaśca bhagavāndēva ssōmaśca sa bṛhaspatiḥ.

saptarṣayō nāradaśca tē tvāṅ rakṣantu sarvataḥ৷৷2.25.11৷৷


putra O my son!, smṛtiḥ memory, dhṛtiśca resolution(Dhriti), dharmaśca Dharma, tvām you, sarvataḥ always, pātu may guard, bhagavān of divine personages, dēvaḥ god, skandaśca Skanda, sōmaśca Soma, saḥ that, bṛhaspatiḥ Brihaspati (preceptor of gods), tē to you, saptarṣayaḥ seven rishis, nāradaśca Narada, tvām you, sarvataḥ everywhere, rakṣantu protect you.

O my son! may Smriti, Dhriti and Dharma always guard you. May divine personages and gods, Skanda, Soma, Brihaspati, the seven rishis and Narada protect you at all times!
yāścāpi sarvatassidhdā diśaśca sadigīśvarāḥ.

stutā mayā vanē tasminpāntu tvāṅ putra! nityaśaḥ৷৷2.25.12৷৷


putra! O my son!, siddhāḥ Siddhas, sadigīśvarā: along with the guardians of the quarters, yāḥ diśaśca those quarters, mayā by me, stutāḥ are invoked, tasmin vanē in that forest, tvām you, sarvataḥ from all sides, nityaśaḥ at all times, pāntu protect.

May Siddhas, guardians of the quarters invoked by me protect you from all directions in that forest at all times, O my son!
śailāssarvē samudrāśca rājā varuṇa ēva ca.

dyaurantarikṣaṅ pṛthivī nadyassarvāstathaiva ca৷৷2.25.13৷৷

nakṣatrāṇi ca sarvāṇi grahāśca sahadēvatāḥ.

ahōrātrē tathā sandhyē pāntu tvāṅ vanamāśritam৷৷2.25.14৷৷


sarvē all, śailāḥ mountains, samudrāśca also seas, rājā lord, varuṇa ēva ca Varuna, dyauḥ the heaven, antarikṣam the space, pṛthivī ca the earth as well, tathaiva ca also, sarvāḥ all, nadyaḥ rivers, sarvāṇi all,
nakṣatrāṇi ca the stars, sahadēvatāḥ together with their presiding deities, grahāśca planets, ahōrātrē day and night, tathā and, sandhyē dawn and dusk, āśritam having taken refuge, tvām you, pāntu may protect.

When you dwell in the forest may all the mountains, seas, lord Varuna, heaven, space, and earth and also all rivers, all stars and planets with their presiding deities, day, night, dawn and dusk protect you!
ṛtavaścaiva ṣaṭpuṇyā māsāssaṅvatsarāstathā.

kalāśca kāṣṭhāśca tathā tava śarma diśantu tē৷৷2.25.15৷৷


puṇyāḥ pious, ṣaṭ six, ṛtavaścaiva seasons, tē to you, māsāḥ months, tathā also, saṅvatsarāḥ years, kalāśca kala, kāṣṭhāśca kashta (kala and kashta are the names for the minute divisions of time), tava your, śarma welfare, diśantu you may offer.

May all the six pious seasons, months, years, kala and kashta contribute to your well-being!
mahāvanē vicaratō munivēṣasya dhīmataḥ.

tavādityāśca daityāśca bhavantu sukhadāssadā৷৷2.25.16৷৷


munivēṣasya clad in ascetic garb, mahāvanē in the wild forest, vicarataḥ wandering, dhīmataḥ sagacious, tava your, ādityāśca sons of Aditi, devatas, daityāśca sons of Diti, daityas, sadā
always, sukhadāḥ bestowers of happiness, bhavantu be.

May gods and demons always give you happiness when you wander in that great forest clad in ascetic garb!
rākṣasānāṅ piśācānāṅ raudrāṇāṅ krūrakarmaṇām.

kravyādānāṅ ca sarvēṣāṅ mā bhūtputraka! tē bhayam৷৷2.25.17৷৷


putraka O my child, tē to you, raudrāṇām of the fearful, krūrakarmaṇām of those committing cruel
acts, rākṣasānām of rakshasas, piśācānām of pisachas, 'sarvēṣām of all, kravyādānāṅ ca of flesh-eating animals, bhayam fear, mābhūta may not be.

Let there be no fear from rakshasas who are fearful to look at and commit cruel acts, from pisachas (evil spirits) and from flesh-eating animals, O my child!
plavagā vṛścikā daṅśāmaśakāścaiva kānanē.

sarīsṛpāśca kīṭāśca mā bhūvangahanē tava৷৷2.25.18৷৷


gahanē in an inaccessible, kānanē in the forest, tava to you, plavagāḥ monkeys, vṛścikāḥ scorpions, daṅśāḥ wild gnats, maśakāśca mosquitoes also, sarīsṛpāśca reptiles also, kīṭāśca insects too, mā bhūvan may not be there.

May monkeys, scorpions, wild gnats, mosquitoes, reptiles and insects in that inaccessible forest not trouble you!
mahādvipāśca siṅhāśca vyāghrā ṛkṣāśca daṅṣṭriṇaḥ.

mahiṣā śśṛṅgiṇō raudrā na tē druhyantu putraka!৷৷2.25.19৷৷


putraka my dear son, mahādvipāśca mighty elephants also, daṅṣṭriṇaḥ with pointed incisors, siṅhāśca lions, vyāghrāḥ tigers, ṛkṣāśca bears and, śṛṅgiṇaḥ with horns, raudrāḥ fierce ones, mahiṣāḥ wild buffaloes, tē to you, na druhyantu may not harm.

May the mighty elephants, lions with pointed incisors, tigers, bears and fierce, wild, horned buffaloes, do you no harm, O my dear son!
nṛmāṅsabhōjanā raudrā yē cānyē satvajātayaḥ.

mā ca tvāṅ hiṅsiṣuḥ putra! mayā saṅpūjitāstviha৷৷2.25.20৷৷


putra O my child, nṛmāṅsabhōjinaḥ cannibals, raudrāḥ frightening ones, yē anyē all others, satvajātayaḥ ferocious breeds of animals, iha here, mayā by me, saṅpūjitāḥ have been worshipped, tvām you, mā ca hiṅsiṣuḥ may not harm.

May the ferocious breed of cernivores I worship not harm you, O my child!
āgamāstē śivāssantu sidhyantu ca parākramāḥ.

sarvasampattayē rāma! svastimāngaccha putraka৷৷2.25.21৷৷


putraka O my child, rāma Rama, tē your, āgamāḥ paths, śivāḥ safe (auspecious), santu be, parākramāśca valour also, sidhyantu be accomplished, svastimān safe man, sarvasaṅpattayē achieve success in everything, gaccha go.

O Rama! may your path be auspecious! May your valour be fruitful! Go safel and achieve success in everything!
svasti tē .stvantarikṣēbhyaḥ pārthivēbhyaḥ punaḥ punaḥ.

sarvēbhyaścaiva dēvēbhyō yē ca vai paripanthinaḥ৷৷2.25.22৷৷


antarikṣēbhyaḥ from the sky, punaḥ again, pārthivēbhyaḥ from earthly gods (kings), punaḥ again, sarvēbhyaḥ from all, dēvēbhyaścaiva from devatas also, yē tē paripanthina from all those who obstruct your path, tē to you, svasti astu safety be yours.

May gods from the sky, the earth and all other gods protect you and let there be no harm to you from your foes.
gurussōmaśca sūryaśca dhanadō.tha yamastathā.

pāntu tvāmarcitā rāma! daṇḍakāraṇyavāsinam৷৷2.25.23৷৷


rāma Rama, guruḥ Guru or Brihaspati, sōmaśca Moon also, sūryaśca Sun too, atha also, dhanadaḥ Kubera, tathā also, yamaḥ Yama, arcitāḥ having been worshipped, daṇḍakāraṇyavāsinam living in Dandaka forest, tvām you, pāntu may protect you.

Propitiated by my worship, O Rama! may Brihaspati, Moon, Sun, Kubera and Yama protect you when you are in Dandaka forest!
agnirvāyustathā dhūmō mantrāścarṣimukhāccyutāḥ.

upasparśanakālē tu pāntu tvāṅ raghunandana!৷৷2.25.24৷৷


raghunandana! O Joy of the Raghus! O Son of the Raghu race!, upasparśanakālē at the time of taking bath, tvām you, agni: fire, vāyuḥ wind, tathā also, dhūmaḥ smoke, ṛṣimukhāt from the mouths of rishis, cyutāḥ released, mantrāśca mantras, pāntu protect you.

May Fire, Wind, Smoke and Mantras emanated from the mouths of rishis protect you when you take your ablutions, O Son of the Raghu race! O Joy of the Raghus!
sarvalōkaprabhurbrahmā bhūtabhartā tatharṣayaḥ.

yē ca śēṣāssurāstē tvāṅ rakṣantu vanavāsinam৷৷2.25.25৷৷


sarvalōkaprabhuḥ lord of all the worlds, Siva, brahmā Brahma, bhūtabhartā supporter of beings, Visnu, tathā also, ṛṣayaḥ rishis, śēṣāḥ the remaining, yē surāḥ those gods, tē to you, vanavāsinam dwelling in the forest, tvām you, rakṣantu protect.

May Siva, lord of all the worlds, Visnu, supporter of living beings, Brahma, rishis and all the rest of the gods protect you while you dwell in the forest!
iti mālyaissuragaṇāngandhaiścāpi yaśasvinī.

stutibhiścānurūpābhirānarcā.yatalōcanā৷৷2.25.26৷৷


yaśasvinī illustrious lady, āyatalōcanā large-eyed (Kausalya), iti thus, mālyaiḥ with garlands, gandhaiścāpi with fragrant susbtances, anurūpābhiḥ by appropriate articles, stutibhiśca with prayers, suragaṇān hosts of gods, ānarca worshipped.

Thus illustrious, large-eyed Kausalya worshipped hosts of gods by offering them garlands and fragrant substances with appropriate prayers.
jvalanaṅ samupādāya brāhmaṇēna mahātmanā.

hāvayāmāsa vidhinā rāmamaṅgalakāraṇāt৷৷2.25.27৷৷


jvalanam the sacred fire, samupādāya having arranged, rāmamaṅgala kāraṇāt for the welfare of Rama, mahātmanā great, brāhmaṇēna by the brahmin (priest), vidhinā duly, hāvayāmāsa offered oblations.

After collecting the sacred fire through great brahmins she duly offered oblations to the gods for the welfare of Rama.
ghṛtaṅ śvētāni mālyāni samidhaśśvētasarṣapān.

upasampādayāmāsa kauśalyā paramāṅganā৷৷2.25.28৷৷


paramāṅganā noble lady, kauśalyā Kausalya, ghṛtam clarified butter, śvētāni white, mālyāni garlands of flowers, samidhaḥ sacred fuel, śvēta sarṣapān white grains of mustard seed, upasaṅpādayāmāsa obtained.

Noble Kausalya procured clarified butter, garlands of white flowers, sacred fuel, and grains of white mustard seed (for oblations to the gods).
upādhyāya ssavidhinā hutvā śāntimanāmayam.

hutahavyāvaśēṣēṇa bāhyaṅ balimakalpayat৷৷2.25.29৷৷


saḥ upādhyāyaḥ that officiating priest, vidhinā duly, anāmayam sound health, śāntiṅ hutvā having performed sacrificial offerings for peace, hutahavyāvaśēṣēṇa with the remainder of the offerings, bāhyam external, balim ceremonies, akalpayat performed.

The officiating priest performed the ritual of sacrificial offerings strictly in accordance with rules for peace and happiness of Rama. With the remainder of the offerings, he performed whatever ceremonies were to be done externally.
madhu dadhyakṣataghṛtaiḥ svastivācyadvijāṅstataḥ.

vācayāmāsa rāmasya vanēsvastyayanakriyāḥ৷৷2.25.30৷৷


madhu dadhyakṣataghṛtaiḥ with honey, curds, rice and clarified butter, dvijān brahmins, svastivācya who pronounced benedictory prayers, tataḥ thereafter, vanē in the forest, rāmasya of Rama, svastyayanakriyāḥ reciting mantras preparatory for averting evil, vācayāmāsa got recited.

Thereafter she made the brahmins pronounce benedictory prayers, offering honey, curd, rice and clarified butter.Then she got mantras (expiatory rites) recited for averting evil to Rama while in the forest.
tatastasmai dvijēndrāya rāmamātā yaśasvinī.

dakṣiṇāṅ pradadau kāmyāṅ rāghavaṅ cēdamabravīt৷৷2.25.31৷৷


yaśasvinī illustrious, rāmamātā Rama's mother, tataḥ thereafter, tasmai that, dvijēndrāya best among brahmins, kāmyām as desired, dakṣiṇām appropriate gifts, pradadau gave, rāghavam to Rama, idam these words, abravīt ca also spoke.

The illustrious Kausalya, mother of Rama gave abundant gifts to the best of the brahmins and thereafter said to him:
yanmaṅgalaṅ sahasrākṣē sarvadēvanamaskṛtē.

vṛtranāśē samabhavattattē bhavatu maṅgalam৷৷2.25.32৷৷


vṛtranāśē at the time of slaying of Vritra, sarvadēvanamaskṛtē salutations bestowed by all gods, sahasrākṣē on god of a thousand eyes (Indra), yat whichever, maṅgalam blessings, samabhavat was bestowed, tat maṅgalam that auspiciousness, tē bhavatu may happen to you.

May the same blessings bestowed by all the gods on the thousand-eyed Indra at the time of killing Vritra be with you!
yanmaṅgalaṅ suparṇasya vinatā.kalpayatpurā.

amṛtaṅ prārthayānasya tattē bhavatu maṅgalam৷৷2.25.33৷৷


purā formely, amṛtam nectar, prārthayānasya while seeking, suparṇasya for Garuda, vinatā Vinata, yat maṅgalam which blessings, akalpayat created, tat maṅgalam that auspiciousness, tē bhavatu happen to you.

May you be conferred with the same blessings which Vinata bestowed on Garuda at the time of bringing nectar!
amṛtōtpādanē daityān ghnatō vajradharasya yat.

aditirmaṅgalaṅ prādāttattē bhavatu maṅgalam৷৷2.25.34৷৷


aditiḥ Aditi, amṛtōtpādanē at the time of churning out nectar, daityān the daityas, ghnataḥ slew, vajradharasya of the wielder of thunder (Indras's), tat maṅgalam blessings, prādāt gave, tat maṅgalam blessings, tē bhavatu may be yours.

May you be bestowed with the same blessings conferred by Aditi on Indra, the wielder of thunder for the killing of daityas at the time nectar was generated!
trīnvikramānprakramatō viṣṇōramitatējasaḥ.

yadāsīnmaṅgalaṅ rāma! tattē bhavatu maṅgalam৷৷2.25.35৷৷


rāma! O Rama, trīn three, vikramān strides, prakramataḥ of him who was occupying, amitatējasaḥ
highly lustrous, viṣṇōḥ Visnu's, yat maṅgalam whichever auspiciousness, āsīt was to be, tat maṅgalāni that auspiciousness, tē bhavatu may be yours.

O Rama! by occupying three footsteps of space, highly lustrous Visnu owned the three worlds and obtained glory. May you obtain similar auspiciousness!
ṛtavassāgarā dvīpā vēdā lōkā diśaśca tē.

maṅgalāni mahābāhō! diśantu śubhamaṅgalāḥ৷৷2.25.36৷৷


mahābāhō! O mighty-armed one, śubhamaṅgalāḥ auspicious happenings, ṛtavaḥ seasons, sāgarāḥ seas, dvīpāḥ islands, vēdāḥ the Vedas, lōkāḥ worlds, diśaśca the quarters, tē to you, maṅgalāni blessings, diśantu let them bestow.

O mighty-armed Rama! may the auspicious and prosperous seasons, seas, islands. the Vedas, the worlds and the quarters bless you!
iti putrasya śēṣāṅśca kṛtvā śirasi bhāminī.

gandhaiścāpi samālabhya rāmamāyatalōcanā৷৷2.25.37৷৷

ōṣadhīṅ cāpi siddhārthāṅ viśalyakaraṇīṅ śubhām.

cakāra rakṣāṅ kauśalyā mantrairabhijajāpa ca৷৷2.25.38৷৷


āyatalōcanā large-eyed lady, bhāminī beautiful lady, kauśalyā Kausalya, iti in this way uttering, putrasya son's, śirasi on the head, śēṣāśca the remains (of offerings), kṛtvā having offered, rāmam Rama, gandhaiścāpi with sandalpaste also, samālabhya having applied, siddhārthāṅ for fruitful attainment, śubhām auspicious, viśalyakaraṇīm Vishalyakarani, (capable of removing extraneous substances causing great pain in the body), ōṣadhīm medicinal herb, rakṣām armlet, cakāra made, mantrai: with sacred prayers, abhijajāpa ca muttered repeatedly in a low tone.

The large-eyed Kausalya placed the remains of the offerings on his (Rama's) head and applied sandal cream to his body. She tied an auspicious medicinal herb known as Vishalyakarani to his arm for attainment of his objectives, repeatedly muttering
prayers.
uvācātiprahṛṣṭēva sā duḥkhavaśavartinī.

vāṅgmātrēṇa na bhāvēna vācā.saṅsajjamānayā৷৷2.25.39৷৷


duḥkhavaśavartinī filled with distress, sā she, atiprahṛṣṭēva as if she was exceedingly happy, saṅsajjamānayā with confused, vācā with a tone, vāṅmātrēṇa in mere words, uvāca said, bhāvēna na not with mind.

Even though Kausalya was filled with distress, she appeared as if she was very much happy. She uttered mere words in a confusing tone without applying her mind.
ānamya mūrdhni cāghrāya pariṣvajya yaśasvinī.

avadatputra siddhārthō gaccha rāma! yathāsukham৷৷2.25.40৷৷


yaśasvinī illustrious lady, ānamya bending him down, mūrdhni on his forehead, āghrāya having smelt, pariṣvajya having embraced, avadat spoke, putra O son, rāma Rama, siddhārthaḥ having fulfilled your objective, yathā sukham in peace and happiness, gaccha go.

Illustrious Kausalya embraced Rama, bending his head down and smelt his forehead. And then said O Rama! go in peace and come back after accomplishing the objective.
arōgaṅ sarvasiddhārthamayōdhyāṅ punarāgatam.

paśyāmi tvāṅ sukhaṅ vatsa! susthitaṅ rājavartmani৷৷2.25.41৷৷


vatsa O my son!, arōgam without illness, sarvasiddhārtham accomplishing all objectives, sukham happily (in good health), punaḥ again, ayōdhyām to Ayodhya, āgatam having reached, rājavartmani on the royal path (as king), susthitam firmly standing, tvām you, paśyāmi I shall behold.

O my son! I shall be happy to behold you back in Ayodhya in sound health
successful in your objectives and firmly established in the kingdom.
praṇaṣṭaduḥkhasaṅkalpā harṣavidyōtitānanā.

drakṣyāmi tvāṅ vanātprāptaṅ pūrṇacandramivōditam৷৷2.25.42৷৷


vanāt from the forest, prāptam having received, tvām you, uditam rising, pūrṇacandramiva like full moon, praṇaṣṭaduḥkhasaṅkalpā having removed my sorrowful thoughts, harṣavidyōtitānanā my face sparkling with joy, drakṣyāmi shall behold.

When you return from the forest like the full Moon rising, I shall behold you with my anxieties gone and my face sparkling with joy.
bhadrāsanagataṅ rāma! vanavāsādihāgatam.

drakṣyāmi ca punastvāṅ tu tīrṇavantaṅ piturvacaḥ৷৷2.25.43৷৷


rāma O Rama, pituḥ vacaḥ father's words, tīrṇavantam having crossed (fuliflled), vanavāsāt from your exile, iha here, punaḥ again, āgatam having arrived, tvām you, bhadrāsanagatam sitting on the throne, drakṣyāmi I shall see.

After you have fulfilled your father's words and returned from your exile I shall behold you seated on the throne, O Rama!
maṅgalairupasapannō vanavāsādihāgataḥ.

vadhvā mama ca nityaṅ tvaṅ kāmānsaṅvardha yāhi bhōḥ!৷৷2.25.44৷৷


bhōḥ O Rama!, vanavāsāt from the forest, iha here, āgataḥ having returned, maṅgalai: with auspicious events, upasampannaḥ endowed with, tvam you, vadhvāḥ of my daughter-in-law (Sita's), mama ca for me also, kāmān desires, nityam always, saṅvardha enhance, yāhi go.

O Rama!, credited with auspicious events on return from the forest, fulfil my desires and those of my daughter-in-law (Sita).
mayā.rcitā dēvagaṇāśśivādayō

maharṣayō bhūtamahāsurōragāḥ.

abhiprayātasya vanaṅ cirāya tē

hitāni kāṅkṣantu diśaśca rāghava!৷৷2.25.45৷৷


rāghava O son of the Raghu race! mayā by me, arcitāḥ worshipped, śivādayaḥ Siva and others, dēvagaṇāḥ gods, maharṣayaḥ the great rishis, bhūtamahāsurōragāḥ bhutas, great asuras, serpents,
diśaśca four quarters, vanam to the forest, abhiprayātasya having exiled, tē your, hitāni welfare, cirāya for a long time, kāṅkṣantu may wish for.

O son of the Raghu race! Lord Siva and other gods, the great rishis, bhutas, great asuras and serpents and four quarters worshipped by me will always promote your welfare when you dwell in the forest.
itīva sā.śrupratipūrṇalōcanā

samāpya ca svastyayanaṅ yathāvidhi.

pradakṣiṇaṅ caiva cakāra rāghavaṅ

punaḥ punaścāpi nipīḍya sasvajē৷৷2.25.46৷৷


itīva speaking thus, sā she, aśrupratipūrṇalōcanā eyes filled with tears, yathāvidhi duly, svastyayanam benedictory rites, samāpya ca having completed, rāghavam to the descendant of the Raghu dynasty, pradakṣiṇaṅ cakāra circumambulate, punaḥ punaḥ ca api repeatedly, nipīḍya holding him tight, sasvajē embraced.

Thus with her eyes brimming with tears, she duly completed the benedictory rites and circumambulated the scion of the Raghus and embraced him again and again holding him tight.
tathā tu dēvyā sa kṛtapradakṣiṇō

nipīḍya mātuścaraṇau punaḥ punaḥ.

jagāma sītānilayaṅ mahāyaśā

ssa rāghavaḥ prajvalita ssvayā śriyā৷৷2.25.47৷৷


dēvyā by Devi Kausalya, tathā that way, kṛtapradakṣiṇaḥ having circumambulated, saḥ Rama, mātuḥ his mothers, caraṇau feet, punaḥ punaḥ again and again, nipīḍya holding fast, mahāyaśāḥ illustrious, saḥ rāghavaḥ that son of the Raghu race, svayā by his own, śriyā with glory, prajvalitaḥ glowing, sītānilayam to the palace of Sita, jagāma went.

Circumambulated by mother Kausalya, the illustrious scion of the Raghu race clasped his mother's feet again and again. And shining in his glory, proceeded to the palace of Sita.
ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīya ādikāvyē ayōdhyākāṇḍē pañcaviṅśassargaḥ৷৷
Thus ends the twentyfifth sarga of Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
