[Rama honours Suyajna with valuable gifts--distributes his wealth to dependents, brahmins and to sageTrijata.]

tataśśāsana mājñāya bhrātu śśubhataraṅ priyam.

gatvā sa pravivēśāśu suyajñasya nivēśanam৷৷2.32.1৷৷


tataḥ thereafter, saḥ he, bhrātuḥ brother's, śubhataram very much auspicious, priyam pleasing, śāsanam command, ājñāya having understood, āśu immediately, gatvā having gone, suyajñasya Suyajna's, nivēśanam house, pravivēśa entered.

Lakshmana having understood the very auspicious and welcome order (of Rama) immediately proceeded to the house of Suyajna.
taṅ vipramagnyagārasthaṅ vanditvā lakṣmaṇō.bravīt.

sakhē.bhyāgaccha paśya tvaṅ vēśma duṣkarakāriṇaḥ৷৷2.32.2৷৷


lakṣmaṇaḥ Lakshmana, agnyagārastham staying in the fire-sanctuary, taṅ vipram that brahmin, vanditvā after saluting, abravīt said, sakhē O friend!, abhyāgaccha come, tvam you, duṣkarakāriṇaḥ accomplisher of all difficult tasks , vēśma palace of Rama, paśya behold.

Lakshmana paid homage to him who was in the fire-sanctuary, and said O friend, come and see the palace of Rama who is the accomplisher of all difficult tasks.
tatassandhyāmupāsyāśu gatvā saumitriṇā saha.

juṣṭaṅ tatprāviśallakṣmyā ramyaṅ rāmanivēśanam৷৷2.32.3৷৷


tataḥ thereafter, sandhyām the twilight prayers, upāsya having performed, saumitriṇā saha along with Lakshmana, āśu swiftly, gatvā went, lakṣmyā with prosperity, juṣṭam endowed with, ramyam beautiful, tat that, rāmanivēśanam Rama's palace, prāviśat he entered.

After performing the twilight prayers, Suyajna along with Lakshmana went straight away and entered the beautiful and prosperous palace of Rama.
tamāgataṅ vēdavidaṅ prāñjalissītayā saha.

suyajñamabhicakrāma rāghavō.gnimivārcitam৷৷2.32.4৷৷


rāghavaḥ Rama, prāñjaliḥ folded hands, āgatam who has come, vēdavidam versed in Vedas, taṅ suyajñam that Suyajna, arcitam worshipped, agnim iva like fire, sītayā saha with Sita, abhicakrāma circumambulated.

On the arrival of sage Suyajna well-versed in the Vedas, both Rama and Sita offered obeisance to him as to fire-god and circumambulated him.
jātarūpamayairmukhyairaṅgadaiḥ kuṇḍalaiḥ śubhaiḥ.

sahēmasūtrairmaṇibhiḥ kēyūrairvalayairapi৷৷2.32.5৷৷

anyaiśca ratnairbahubhiḥ kākutsthaḥ pratyapūjayat.

suyajñaṅ sa tadōvāca rāmassītā pracōditaḥ৷৷2.32.6৷৷


kākutstha: scion of the Kakutstha dynasty, jātarūpamayaiḥ by golden, mukhyaiḥ with excellent, aṅgadaiḥ anklets, śubhaiḥ auspicious, kuṇḍalaiḥ with ear-rings, sahēmasūtraiḥ with golden strings, maṇibhiḥ gems, kēyūraiḥ bracelets, valayairapi armlets also, anyaiḥ others, bahubhiḥ many, ratnaiśca jewels, suyajñam to Suyajna, pratyapūjayat worshipped, tadā then, saḥ rāmaḥ that Rama, sītāpracōditaḥ urged by Sita, uvāca said.

Rama, scion of the Kakutstha dynasty, worshipped Suyajna with a collection of golden ornaments such as ear-rings, anklets, armlets, bracelets and many other ornaments of precious stones. Then urged by Sita, Rama said to him:
hāraṅ ca hēmasūtraṅ ca bhāryāyai saumya hāraya.

raśanāṅ cādhunā sītā dātumicchati tē sakhē!৷৷2.32.7৷৷


saumya O handsome, sakhē friend, sītā Sita, adhunā at this time, hāraṅ ca necklace also, hēmasūtraṅ ca golden chain, raśanāṅ ca also girdle, tē to you, dātum to give, icchati wishes, bhāryāyai to your wife, hāraya take them.

O handsome friend! now Sita intends to give away to your wife her necklace, her golden chain and girdle. Could you accept them?
aṅgadāni vicitrāṇi kēyūrāṇi śubhāni ca.

prayacchati sakhē! tubhyaṅ bhāryāyai gacchatī vanam৷৷2.32.8৷৷


sakhē O friend, vanam to the forest, gacchatī departing Sita, bhāryāyaiḥ to your wife, aṅgadāni anklets, vicitrāṇi wonderful, śubhāni auspicious, kēyurāṇi ca bracelets, tubhyam to you, prayacchati is offering.

Sita is departing for the forest and offers your wife her armlets, wonderful and elegant bracelets.
paryaṅkamagyrāstaraṇaṅ nānāratnavibhūṣitam.

tamapīcchati vaidēhī pratiṣṭhāpayituṅ tvayi৷৷2.32.9৷৷


vaidēhī Sita, agyrāstaraṇam exquisite bed cover, nānāratnavibhūṣitam encrusted with various gems, taṅ paryaṅkam that couch, api also, tvayi in you, pratiṣṭhāpayitum to place (in your house), icchati wishes.

Sita also wishes to give away a couch with an exquisite cover, encrusted with a variety of precious stones.
nāga śśatruñjayō nāma mātulō.yaṅ dadau mama.

taṅ tē gajasahasrēṇa dadāmi dvijasattama!৷৷2.32.10৷৷


dvijasattama! O best among brahmins, ayam this one, śatruñjayō nāma by name Satrunjaya, nāgaḥ an elephant, mātulaḥ my maternal uncle, mama to me, dadau gave, tam to that (elephant), gajasahasrēṇa along with a thousand elephants, tē to you, dadāmi I am giving.

I am gifting you, O best among brahmins! a thousand elephants including Satrunjaya an elephant my maternal uncle had given me.
ityuktassa hi rāmēṇa suyajñaḥ pratigṛhṛyatat.

rāmalakṣmaṇasītānāṅ prayuyōjāśiṣa śśubhāḥ৷৷2.32.11৷৷


rāmēṇa by Rama, iti thus, uktaḥ spoken, saḥ suyajñaḥ that Suyajna, tat that, pratigṛhya having accepted, rāmalakṣmaṇasītānām to Rama, Lakshmana and Sita, śubhāḥ auspicious, āśiṣaḥ blessings, prayuyōja bestowed.

Thus addressed by Rama, Suyajna accepted the gifts and conferred auspicious blessings on Rama, Lakshmana and Sita.
atha bhrātaramavyagraṅ priyaṅ rāmaḥ priyaṅvadaḥ.

saumitriṅ tamuvācēdaṅ brahmēva tridaśēśvaram৷৷2.32.12৷৷


atha thereafter, priyaṅvada: sweet-tongued, rāmaḥ Rama, priyam to his beloved, bhrātaram to his brother, taṅ saumitrim to Lakshmana, brahmā creator, tridaśēśvaram iva like lord of heaven, Indra, avyagram without haste, idam this word, uvāca said.

Sweet-tongued Rama calmly said to his brother (Lakshmana) like Brahma
addressing Indra:
agastyaṅ kauśikaṅ caiva tāvubhau brāhmaṇōttamau.

arcayāhūya saumitrē! ratnaissasyamivāmbubhiḥ৷৷2.32.13৷৷


saumitrē Lakshmana, agastyam sage Agasthya, kauśikaṅ caiva to sage Kausika, ubhau both, tau brāhmaṇōttamau two eminent brahmins, āhūya having invited, ratnaiḥ gems, sasyaṅ crops, ambubhiḥ iva
like rain waters, arcaya worship.

O Lakshmana! invite Agastya and Kausika, the two celebrated brahmins, and bestow on them with reverence plenty of precious gems like showers of rain on standing crops.
tarpayasva mahābāhō! gōsahasraiśca mānada!.

suvarṇai rajataiścaiva maṇibhiśca mahādhanaiḥ৷৷2.32.14৷৷


mahābāhō O mighty-armed Lakshmana, mānada O bestower of honour, gōsahasraiśca with a thousand cows, suvarṇaiḥ gold, rajataiścaiva and also silver, mahādhanaiḥ great wealth, maṇibhiśca with gems also, tarpayasva you satisfy them.

Satisfy them, O highly-armed Lakshmana, O bestower of honour! with a thousand cows, gold, silver and with the great wealth of gems.
kausalyāṅ ca ya āśīrbhirbhaktaḥ paryupatiṣṭhati.

ācāryastaittirīyāṇāmabhirūpaśca vēdavit৷৷2.32.15৷৷

tasya yānaṅ ca dāsīśca saumitrē! sampradāpaya.

kauśēyāni ca vastrāṇi yāvattuṣyati sa dvijaḥ৷৷2.32.16৷৷


saumitrē O Lakshmana, taittirīyāṇām of the Taittiriya branch of the Vedas, ācāryaḥ learned preceptor, abhirūpaśca agreeable man, vēdavit versed in the Vedas, yaḥ who, bhaktaḥ devotee,
āśīrbhiḥ with blessings, kauśalyām of Kausalya, paryupatiṣṭhati attends on her, tasya to him, saḥ dvijaḥ that brahmin, yāvat till such time, tuṣyati is fully satisfied, yānaṅ ca chariots, dāsīśca maid-servants, kauśēyāni vastrāṇi ca silk clothes also, saṅpradāpaya arrange to give away.

O Lakshmana, give away chariots, maid-servants, silk clothes to learned brahmins of Taittiriya branch and well-versed in the Vedas, to agreeable and faithful brahmins attending on Kausalya with their blessings till they are fully satisfied.
sūtaścitrarathaścārya sacivassucirōṣitaḥ.

tōṣayainaṅ mahārhaiśca ratnairvastrairdhanaistathā৷৷2.32.17৷৷

paśukābhiśca sarvābhirgavāṅ daśaśatēna ca.


āryasacivaḥ noble counsellor (of our father), citrarathaḥ Chitraratha, sūtaḥ charioteer, sucirōṣitaḥ lived with us for many years, ēnam him, mahārhai: with invaluable, ratnaiśca with jewels, vastrai: clothes, tathā similarly, dhanaiḥ with wealth,sarvābhiḥ with all ,paśukābhiḥ ca with young female calves, gavām cows, daśaśatēna ca by (a thousand) ten hundreds, tōṣaya you may gratify him.

Noble counsellor (of our father) and charioteer Chitraratha has been in our service for many years. Gratify him with invaluable jewels, clothes, wealth, with young female calves and a thousand cows.
yē cēmē kaṭhakālāpā bahavō daṇḍamāṇavāḥ৷৷2.32.18৷৷

nityasvādhyāyaśīlatvānnānyatkurvanti kiñcana.

alasā svādukāmāśca mahatāṅ cāpi sammatāḥ৷৷2.32.19৷৷

tēṣāmaśītiyānāni ratnapūrṇāni dāpaya.

śālivāhasahasraṅ ca dvē śatē bhadrakāṅ stathā৷৷2.32.20৷৷

vyañjanārthaṅ ca saumitrē! gōsahasramupākuru.


kaṭhakālāpāḥ men versed in Katha and Kalapa portions of the Vedas, yē which, imē these, bahavaḥ many, daṇḍamāṇavāḥ brahmacharis holding a staff (as authority given to an ascetic), nityasvādhyāyaśīlatvāt engaged daily in the study of Vedas, anyat other, kiñcana any work, na kurvanti not doing, alasāḥ inactive people, svādukāmāśca fond of delicious food, mahatāṅ cāpi even for great people, sammatāḥ are highly respected, tēṣām for them, ratnapūrṇāni filled with gems, aśītiyānāni eighty carts, śālivāhasahasraṅ ca a thousand bulls capable of carrying corn, dvē śatē two hundred, bhadrakān bulls, dāpaya arrange to give away, saumitrē O Lakshmana! vyañjanārtham for preparing food (with milk products), gōsahasram a thousand cows, upākuru arrange to give away.

O Lakshmana! many brahmacharis with a staff (as a mark of religious authority) well-versed in Katha and Kalapa portions of the Vedas engaged daily in the study of the Vedas and nothing else. Not active otherwise, they are fond of delicious food and are respected even by great people. Give them eighty carts filled with gems, a thousand bulls capable of carrying paddy, and two hundred oxen capable of ploughing land and a thousand cows for preparing food (with milk products).
mēkhalīnāṅ mahāsaṅghaḥ kausalyāṅ samupasthitaḥ৷৷2.32.21৷৷

tēṣāṅ sahasraṅ saumitrē! pratyēkaṅ sampradāpaya.


saumitrē O Lakshmana! mēkhalīnām of brahmacharis (who wear a triple girdle worn by the first three castes), mahāsaṅghaḥ in large numbers, kauśalyām of Kausalya, samupasthitaḥ depending on, tēṣām to them, pratyēkam for each of them, sahasram thousand (cows), sampradāpaya gift away.

Give each of the large number of brahmacharis wearing girdles and working under Kausalya a thousand (cows or gold coins), O Lakshmana!
ambā yathā ca sā nandētkausalyā mama dakṣiṇām৷৷2.32.22৷৷

tathā dvijātīstā nsarvān lakṣmaṇārcaya sarvaśaḥ.


lakṣmaṇa O Lakshmana!, ambā mother, sā kauśalyā Kausalya, mama my, dakṣiṇām respectful offerings, yathā in whichever way, nandēt that pleases, tathā in that way, tān those, sarvān all, dvijātīn brahmins, sarvaśaḥ in all ways, arcaya you may honour.

You should, O Lakshmana! treat all those brahmins in such a way that my mother shall be pleased on seeing my respectful offerings.
tata ssapuruṣavyāghrastaddhanaṅ lakṣmaṇaḥ svayam৷৷2.32.23৷৷

yathōktaṅ brāhmaṇēndrāṇāṅmadadāddhanadō yathā.


tataḥ thereupon, puruṣavyāghraḥ tiger among men (best of men), saḥ lakṣmaṇaḥ that Lakshmana, dhanadō yathā like Kubera, bestower of wealth, tat dhanam that wealth, yathōktam as told (by Rama), svayam personally, brāhmaṇēndrāṇām to the Indras among brahmins (best brahmins), adadāt gave.

Thereupon Lakshmana, a tiger among men, personally distributed like Kubera, gifts of riches to all those Indras among brahmins (best of brahmins) in accordance with the instructions of Rama.
athā.bravīdbāṣpakalāṅstiṣṭhataścōpajīvinaḥ৷৷2.32.24৷৷

sampradāyabahudravyamēkaikasyōpajīvanam.


atha thereafter, bāṣpakalān men with their throats choked with tears, tiṣṭhataḥ remaining, upajīvinaḥ dependents, ēkaikasya for each one of them, bahu abundance of, dravyam wealth, upajīvanam as subsistence, sampradāya having bestowed, abravīt said.

Rama then bestowed abundant wealth on each of the dependents as they stood with their throats choked with tears, saying:
lakṣmaṇasya ca yadvēśma gṛhaṅ ca yadidaṅ mama৷৷2.32.25৷৷

aśūnyaṅ kāryamēkaikaṅ yāvadāgamanaṅ mama.


lakṣmaṇasya Lakshmana's, yat which, vēśma palace, mama my, idam this, yat which, gṛhaṅ ca palace also, ēkaikam each one, mama my, yāvadāgamanam till I return, aśūnyam without being unattended, kāryam fit to be done.

Till I come back, guard each of the palaces of Lakshmana and mine and ensure that they are not left unattended.
ityuktvā duḥkhitaṅ sarvaṅ janaṅ tamupajīvinam৷৷2.32.26৷৷

uvācēdaṅ dhanādhyakṣaṅ dhanamānīyatāmiti.


duḥkhitam filled with grief, upajīvinam dependents, sarvam all, taṅ janam to that group, iti thus, uktvā having said, dhanam treasure, ānīyatām bring, iti thus, idam this word, dhanādhyakṣam to treasury officer, uvāca said.

Having spoken thus to all dependents who were overcome with grief, Rama ordered the treasury officer to bring the entire treasure.
tatō.sya dhanamājahrussarvamēvōpajīvinaḥ৷৷2.32.27৷৷

sa rāśissumahāṅstatra darśanīyō hyadṛśyata.


tataḥ after that, upajīvinaḥ dependents, asya Rama's, sarvamēva entire, dhanam wealth, ājahruḥ brought, tatra there, sumahān extremely great, saḥ rāśiḥ that heap of wealth, darśanīyaḥ pleasing to see, adṛśyata beheld.

When all the dependents fetched the entire wealth of Rama, they were pleased to see the great heap of wealth.
tatassapuruṣavyāghra staddhanaṅ sahalakṣmaṇaḥ৷৷2.32.28৷৷

dvijēbhyō bālavṛddhēbhyaḥ kṛpaṇēbhyō.hyadāpayat.


tataḥ then, puruṣavyāghraḥ tiger among men (best of men), saḥ that Rama, sahalakṣmaṇaḥ along with Lakshmana, tat dhanam that wealth, dvijēbhyaḥ to brahmins, bālavṛddhēbhyaḥ to the young and old, kṛpaṇēbhyaḥ to the poor, adāpayat got it distributed.

Rama, best among men, got the entire wealth distributed among indigent brahmins, and young and old alike with the help of Lakshmana.
tatrāsītpiṅgalō gārgyastrijaṭō nāma vai dvijaḥ৷৷2.32.29৷৷

kṣatavṛttirvanē nityaṅ phālakuddālalāṅgalī.


tatra there, nityam always, phālakuddālalāṅgalī with an iron-spade and a plough, vanē in the forest, kṣatavṛtti: digging the earth as profession, piṅgalaḥ a man of reddish-brown colour,
gārgyaḥ descendant of sage Gargya, trijaṭō nāma by name Trijata, dvijaḥ brahmin, āsīt lived.

A brahmin by name, Trijata, a descendant of sage Garga and of reddish-brown colour used to live in that region earning his livelihood in the forest by digging the earth with an iron-spade and a plough.
taṅ vṛddhaṅ taruṇī bhāryā bālānādāya dārakān৷৷2.32.30৷৷

abravīdbāhmaṇaṅ vākyaṅ dāridryēṇābhipīḍitā.


taruṇī young, bhāryā wife, dāridryēṇa due to poverty, abhipīḍitā highly distressed, bālān young, dārakān sons, ādāya after presenting, vṛddham aged, taṅ brāhmaṇam to that brahmin, abravīt said.

His young wife, highly distressed due to poverty, keeping her young sons before her said to the aged brahmin:
apāsya phālaṅ kuddālaṅ kuruṣva vacanaṅ mama৷৷2.32.31৷৷

rāmaṅ darśaya dharmajñaṅ yadi kiñcidavāpsyasi.


phālam iron, kuddālam spade, apāsya throwing away, mama my, vacanam words, kuruṣva implement, dharmajñam knower of righteousness, rāmam to Rama, darśaya you may present yourself, kiñcit something, avāpsyasi yadi if at all you may obtain.

Listen to me! throw away this iron-spade. Go and see the righteous Rama.You may obtain something.
sa bhāryāvacanaṅ śrutvā śāṭīmācchādya duśchadām৷৷2.32.32৷৷

sa prātiṣṭhata panthānaṅ yatra rāmanivēśanam.


saḥ that Trijata, bhāryāvacanam wife's words, śrutvā having heard, duḥśchadām tattered clothes, śāṭīm upper garment, ācchādya having wrapped, rāmanivēśanam Rama's palace, yatra where it is located, panthānam about the path, prātiṣṭhata he set forth.

At the words of his wife, Trijata took the path to Rama's palace, having wrapped himself with a torn upper garment .
bhṛgvaṅgirasamaṅ dīptyā trijaṭaṅ janasaṅsadi৷৷2.32.33৷৷

āpañcamāyāḥ kakṣyāyāḥ nainaṅ kaścidavārayat.


janasaṅsadi in the crowd, dīptyā in lustre, bhṛgvaṅgirasamam like Bhrugu and Angirasa, ēnam this, trijaṭam Trijata, āpañcamāyāḥ kakṣyāyāḥ up to the fifth courtyard, kaścit any one, na avārayat did not stop him.

No one in the crowd stopped Tirjata until he reached the fifth courtyard as he looked like Bhrigu and Angirasa in brilliance.
sa rājaputramāsādya trijaṭō vākyamabravīt৷৷2.32.34৷৷

nirdhanō bahuputrō.smi rājaputra! mahāyaśaḥ!.

uñchavṛttirvanē nityaṅ pratyavēkṣasva māmiti৷৷2.32.35৷৷


saḥ trijaṭaḥ that Trijata, rājaputram prince Rama, āsādya having approached, vākyam these words, abravīt uttered, mahāyaśaḥ O illustrious one, rājaputra O Prince, nirdhanaḥ I am a destitute, bahuputraḥ father of many children, nityam daily, vanē in the forest, uñchavṛtti: asmi living on collecting the leftover grain of the field, mām me, pratyavēkṣasva look at, iti thus.

Trijata approached Rama and said O illustrious prince! I am a destitute and have many children. I am living in the forest by collecting left-over grains. Look at me.
tamuvāca tatō rāma: parihāsa samanvitam.

gavāṅ sahasramapyēkaṅ na nu viśrāṇitaṅ mayā৷৷2.32.36৷৷

parikṣipasi daṇḍēna yāvattāvadavāpsyasi.


tataḥ then, rāmaḥ Rama, parihāsasamanvitam jokingly, tam him, uvāca said, mayā by me, ēkam one, gavāṅ sahasramapi thousand cows, na ca viśrāṇitam not yet given away, daṇḍēna with staff, yāvat as far as, parikṣipasi you will hurl, tāvat till such place, avāpsyasi you will obtain.

Rama jokingly replied to him, I have not yet gifted one thousand cows. Throw your staff and the cows on the space your staff covers will be yours.
sa śāṭīṅ tvaritaḥ kaṭyāṅ sambhrāntaḥ parivēṣṭya tām৷৷2.32.37৷৷

āviddhya daṇḍaṅ cikṣēpa sarvaprāṇēna vēgitaḥ.


saḥ Trijata, sambhrāntaḥ bewildered, tvaritaḥ swiftly, tāṅ śāṭīm his upper garment, kaṭyām on his waist, parivēṣṭya after throwing round, daṇḍam staff, āviddhya after setting the direction, vēgitaḥ swiftly, sarvaprāṇēna with all his might, cikṣēpa hurled.

Bewildered Trijata swiftly tightened up his upper garment around his waist, set the direction for his staff and hurled it with all his might.
sa tīrtvā sarayūpāraṅ daṇḍastasya karāccyutaḥ৷৷2.32.38৷৷

gōvrajē bahusāhasrē papātōkṣaṇasannidhau.


tasya his, karāt from the hand, cyutaḥ released, saḥ daṇḍaḥ that staff, sarayūpāram the bank of Sarayu river, tīrtvā having crossed, bahusāhasrē in very many thousands, gōvrajē in the midst of multitude of cows, ukṣaṇasannidhau near a bull, papāta fell.

The staff he hurled crossed the bank of the river Sarayu and fell near a bull in the midst of a thousands cows.
taṅ pariṣvajya dharmātmā ātasmātsarayūtaṭāt৷৷2.32.39৷৷

ānayāmāsa tā gōpai strijaṭāyāśramaṅ prati.


dharmātmā virtuous , tam him, pariṣvajya having embraced, tasmāt that, āsarayūtaṭāt up to the bank of Sarayu river, tāḥ those cows, gōpaiḥ by herdsmen, trijaṭāya Trijata's, āśramaṅ prati
towards the hermitage, ānayāmāsa brought them.

The virtuous Rama embraced Trijata, and despatched all the cattle extending up to the bank of Sarayu to his hermitage.
uvāca sa tatō rāmastaṅ gārgyamabhisāntvayan.

manyurna khalu kartavyaḥ parihāsō hyayaṅ mama৷৷2.32.40৷৷


tataḥ afterwards, rāmaḥ Rama, taṅ gārgyam that Gargya, abhisāntvayan consoling (him), uvāca said, manyuḥ anger, na khalu kartavyaḥ should not be made, ayam this, mama my, parihāsaḥ a joke.

Afterwards Rama sought to placate Trijata, that descendant of Ganga, saying: This was a joke. Do not be angry.
idaṅ hi tējastava yadduratyayaṅ

tadēva jijñāsitumicchatā mayā.

imaṅ bhavānarthamabhi pracōditō

vṛṇīṣva kiṅ cēdaparaṅ vyavasyati৷৷2.32.41৷৷


tava your, duratyayam unsurpassable, yat which, tējaḥ power, tat that, jijñāsitum to ascertain, icchatā ēva indeed desiring, mayā by me, bhavān you, imam this, artham act, abhipracōditaḥ incited, aparam other, kim any other, vyavasyati cēt if sought, vṛṇīṣva you may ask for.

Your power is unsurpassable and to ascertain this, I incited you to do this act. If
there is anything else, ask for it.
bravīmi satyēna natē.sti yantraṇā

dhanaṅ hi yadyanmama viprakāraṇāt.

bhavatsu samyakpratipādanēna ta-

nmayārjitaṅ prītiyaśaskaraṅ bhavēt৷৷2.32.42৷৷


satyēna truly, bravīmi I speak, tē to you, yantraṇā restraint (to seek this much only), nāsti is not there, mama my, yadyat whichever, dhanam wealth, viprakāraṇāt hi indeed for brahmins only, mayā by me, rjitam earned, tat that, bhavatsu in you, samyak correctly, pratipādanēna by offering, prītiyaśaskaram bhavēt gives me pleasure and renown.

Truly speaking, there is no limit to seeking wealth. My wealth is specifically meant for brahmins. By distributing all the wealth earned by me, I get pleasure and renown.
tata ssabhārya strijaṭō mahāmuni-

rgavāmanīkaṅ pratigṛhya mōditaḥ.

yaśōbalaprītisukhōpabṛṅhaṇī-

stadāśiṣa: pratyavadanmahātmanaḥ৷৷2.32.43৷৷


tataḥ thereafter, sabhāryaḥ along with his wife, mahāmuniḥ great sage, trijaṭaḥ Trijata, gavām cows, anīkam multitude, pratigṛhya having accepted, mōditaḥ delighted, tadā then, mahātmanaḥ magnanimous (Rama), yaśōbalaprītisukhōpabṛṅhaṇīḥ enhancing glory, power, pleasure and prosperity, āśiṣaḥ blessings, pratyavadat gave in reply.

Thereafter that great sage Trijata along with his wife, immensely happy to receive multitudes of cows, pronounced blessings on the magnanimous Rama for glory, power, pleasure and prosperity.
sa cāpi rāmaḥ pratipūrṇamānasō

mahaddhanaṅ dharmabalairupārjitam.

niyōjayāmāsa suhṛjjanē.cirā-

dyathārhasammānavacaḥ pracōditaḥ৷৷2.32.44৷৷


saḥ that, rāma: cāpi Rama also, pratipūrṇamānasaḥ with completely satisfied mind, dharmabalaiḥ through dharma, upārjitam earned, mahat dhanam vast wealth, acirāt without delay, yathārhasammānavacaḥ pracōditaḥ prompted by the deserving words of acclaim, suhṛjjanē among his friends, niyōjayāmāsa offered.

Prompted by the deserving words of acclaim from his friends, Rama distributed with joy and without delay the entire wealth earned by him through dharma.
dvija ssuhṛdbhṛtyajanō.thavā tadā

daridrabhikṣācaraṇaśca yō.bhavat.

na tatra kaścinna babhūva tarpitō

yathārhasammānana dāna sambhramaiḥ৷৷2.32.46৷৷


tatra there, tadā then, yaḥ such, dvija: a brahmin, suhṛt friend, athavā or, bhṛtyajanaḥ servant, daridra bhikṣācaraṇaśca poor or beggar, kaścit any one, yathārhasammānanadānasambhramaiḥ with the befitting honour or with charity, na tarpitaḥ not satisfied, na babhūva there was none.

Thus there was none among those brahmins, attendants, poor people, and beggars, who was not satisfied with the honour (received) or with the charity.
ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīya ādikāvyē ayōdhyākāṇḍē dvātriṅśassargaḥ৷৷
Thus ends the thirtysecond sarga of Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first
epic composed by sage Valmiki.
