[Ravana carries away Sita-- Sita calls out for Rama and Lakshmana again and again.]

sā tu tārādhipamukhī rāvaṇēna samīkṣya tam.

gṛdhrarājaṅ vinihataṅ vilalāpa suduḥkhitā৷৷3.52.1৷৷


tārādhipamukhī with Moon-like face, sā tu that Sita, rāvaṇēna by Ravana, vinihatam struck down, taṅ gṛdhrarājam king of the birds, samīkṣya seeing, suduḥkhitā very much agonised, vilalāpa wept.

Sita,whose face was like the lord of the stars (Moon), saw Jatayu, king of birds, struck down by Ravana, and lamented in extreme grif :
nimittaṅ lakṣaṇajñānaṅ śakunisvaradarśanam.

avaśyaṅ sukhaduḥkhēṣu narāṇāṅ pratidṛśyatē৷৷3.52.2৷৷


lakṣaṇajñānam prognostication, śakunisvaradarśanam sounds of ominous birds, narāṇām for people, sukhaduḥkhēṣu in joy and sorrow, avaśyam certainly, nimittam indications, pratidṛśyatē are perceived.

People, for sure, foresee weal and woe in life from auspicious symptoms and ominous sounds.
nūnaṅ rāma na jānāsi mahadvyasanamātmanaḥ.

dhāvanti nūnaṅ kākutsthaṅ madarthaṅ mṛgapakṣiṇaḥ৷৷3.52.3৷৷


rāma Rama, ātmanaḥ your, mahat great, vyasanam disaster, na jānāsi not aware, nūnam surely, madartham for my sake, mṛgapakṣiṇaḥ animals and birds, kākutstham towards Kakutstha, dhāvanti running to tell you, nūnam surely.

O Rama! you are, indeed, unaware of the great disaster that has befallen you. All the animals and birds are running for my sake to tell you about me, O scion of the
Kakutsthas.
ayaṅ hi pāpacārēṇa māṅ trātumabhisaṅgataḥ.

śētē vinihatō bhūmau mamābhāgyādvihaṅgamaḥ৷৷3.52.4৷৷


mām me, trātum to rescue, abhisaṅgataḥ has come forward, ayam his, vihaṅgamaḥ bird, mama for me, abhāgyāt due to bad luck, pāpacārēṇa by the sinner, vinihataḥ is hit down, bhūmau on the ground, śētē lies down.

'This bird that came forward to save me is hit by the sinner(Ravana) and lies down on the ground, as ill luck would have it.
trāhi māmadya kākutstha lakṣmaṇēti varāṅganā.

susantrastā samākrandacchṛṇvatāṅ tu yathāntikē৷৷3.52.5৷৷


varāṅganā beautiful lady, susantrastā terribly frightened, kākutstha O Rama, lakṣmaṇa O Lakshmana, adya and now, mām me, trāhi save, iti thus, antikē close by, śṛṇvatāṅ yathā as if listening to her, samākrandat cried bitterly.

Terribly frightened, the beautiful lady (Sita) cried bitterly, 'O Rama, O Lakshmana, save me', as if they were close by and were listening to her.
tāṅ kliṣṭamālyābharaṇāṅ vilapantīmanāthavat.

abhyadhāvat vaidēhīṅ rāvaṇō rākṣasādhipaḥ৷৷3.52.6৷৷


kliṣṭamālyābharaṇām lady whose garlands were crushed and jewels let loose, anāthavat like orphan, vilapantīm weeping lady, tāṅ vaidēhīm that Vaidehi, rākṣasādhipaḥ demon king, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, abhyadhāvata ran towards.

Ravana, king of the demons, ran towards Sita who was weeping like an orphan with her garlands and ornaments crushed.
tāṅ latāmiva vēṣṭantīmāliṅgantīṅ mahādrumān.

muñca muñcēti bahuśaḥ pravadanrākṣasādhipaḥ৷৷3.52.7৷৷

krōśantīṅ rāma rāmēti rāmēṇa rahitāṅ vanē.

jīvitāntāya kēśēṣu jagrāhāntakasannibhaḥ৷৷3.52.8৷৷


antakasannibhaḥ like Yama, lord of death, rākṣasādhipaḥ lord of the demons, latāmiva like a creeper, mahādrumān huge trees, vēṣṭantīm coiled āliṅgantīm embracing, vanē in the forest, rāmēṇa by Rama, rahitām separated from, rāma rāmēti saying 'Rama, Rama', krōśantīm lamenting, tām her, muñca muñca iti leave it, leave it, bahuśaḥ several times, pravadan uttering, jīvitāntāya to bring an end to his life, kēśēṣu by her hair, jagrāha caught hold.

Separated from Rama in the forest, Sita hugged huge trees, running round and round like a creeper coiled, crying loudly, 'Rama, O Rama' . The king of the demons, like Yama, caught hold of her hair only to invite his death, all the time saying, Leave it, Leave it (Leave the tree).
pradharṣitāyāṅ sītāyāṅ babhūva sacarācaram.

jagatsarvamamaryādaṅ tamasāndhēna saṅvṛtam৷৷3.52.9৷৷

na vāti mārutastatra niṣprabhō.bhūddivākaraḥ.


sītāyām when Sita, pradharṣitāyām was assaulted, sacarācaram with all beings animate and inanimate, sarvam all, jagat world, amaryādam crossed all moral law, andhēna tamasā by pitch darkness, saṅvṛtam enveloped, babhūva became, tatra then, mārutaḥ wind, na vāti did not blow, divākaraḥ the Sun, niṣprabhaḥ lustreless, abhūt became.

While Sita was being assaulted, the earth with the animate and the inanimate crossed all limits of moral law and became enveloped in blinding darkness. The wind ceased to blow and the Sun, to shine.
dṛṣṭvā sītāṅ parāmṛṣṭāṅ dīnāṅ divyēna cakṣuṣā৷৷3.52.10৷৷

kṛtaṅ kāryamiti śrīmānvyājahāra pitāmahaḥ.


śrīmān glorious, pitāmahaḥ grandfather( Brahma), dīnām a desperate woman, sītām Sita, parāmṛṣṭām assaulted by the enemy, divyēna divine, cakṣuṣā eyes, dṛṣṭvā saw, kāryam the task, kṛtam is accomplished, iti thus, vyājahāra said.

Brahma, the glorious Grandfather, saw with his divine eyes, Sita in a desperate state caught by the enemy and said, 'The task is accomplished.
prahṛṣṭā vyathitāścāsansarvē tē paramarṣayaḥ৷৷3.52.11৷৷

dṛṣṭvā sītāṅ parāmṛṣṭāṅ daṇḍakāraṇyavāsinaḥ.

rāvaṇasya vināśaṅ ca prāptaṅ buddhvā yadṛcchayā৷৷3.52.12৷৷


daṇḍakāraṇyavāsinaḥ residents of Dandaka forest, sarvē all, tē those, paramarṣayaḥ great seers, sītām Sita, parāmṛṣṭām abducted, dṛṣṭvā seeing, yadṛcchayā that which happened naturally, rāvaṇasya Ravana's, vināśaṅ ca destruction, prāptam has come, buddhvā knowing, prahṛṣṭāḥ happy, vyathitāśca distressed, āsan became.

All the great seers residing in Dandaka forest felt both happy and sad, happy because the destruction of Ravana is at hand and sad because Sita was in distress.
sa tu tāṅ rāma rāmēti rudantīṅ lakṣmaṇēti ca.

jagāmādāya cākāśaṅ rāvaṇō rākṣasādhipaḥ৷৷3.52.13৷৷


rākṣasādhipaḥ lord of the demons, saḥ rāvaṇaḥ that Ravana, rāma rāmēti saying, Rama, O Rama, lakṣmaṇēti ca O Lakshmana, rudantīm crying, tām her, ādāya taking her, ākāśam into the sky, jagāma went.

While Sita was crying, 'O Rama, O Lakshmana', Ravana, lord of the demons, carried her back into the sky.
taptābharaṇajuṣṭāṅgī pītakauśēyavāsinī.

rarājarājaputrī tuvidyutsaudāminī yathā৷৷3.52.14৷৷


taptābharaṇajuṣṭāṅgī lady wearing on her limbs pure gold ornaments, pītakauśēyavāsinī lady clad in yelow silk, rājaputrī princess, vidyut saudāminī yathā like lightning, rarāja shone.

SIta who had put on pure gold ornaments on her body and who was clad in yellow silk shone like lightning.
uddhūtēna ca vastrēṇa tasyāḥ pītēna rāvaṇaḥ.

adhikaṅ paribabhrāja girirdīpta ivāgninā৷৷3.52.15৷৷


tasyāḥ her, uddhūtēna blown, pītēna yellow, vastrēṇa clothes, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, agninā with fire, dīptaḥ glowing, giririva like a mountain adhikam more, paribabhrāja shone.

Ravana was shining all the more with(her) yellow clothes blowing in the air, and looked like a mountain shining with fire burning around.
tasyāḥ paramakalyāṇyāstāmrāṇi surabhīṇi ca.

padmapatrāṇi vaidēhyā abhyakīryanta rāvaṇam৷৷3.52.16৷৷


paramakalyāṇyāḥ of the most auspicious, tasyāḥ her, vaidēhyāḥ Vaidehi's, tāmrāṇi copper coloured, surabhīṇi fragrant, padmapatrāṇi lotus petals, rāvaṇam Ravana, abhyakīryanta were showered on him.

The red lotus petals worn by the most auspicious Sita, princess of Videha, were showered on Ravana.
tasyāḥ kauśēyamuddhūtamākāśē kanakaprabham.

babhau cādityarāgēṇa tāmramabhramivātapē৷৷3.52.17৷৷


tasyāḥ her, ākāśē in the sky, uddhūtam blown by the wind, kanakaprabham golden-hued, kauśēyam silken robes, ātapē exposed to the evening Sun , ādityarāgēṇa by the Sun's redness, tāmram red, abhramiva cloud-like, babhau appeared.

As the golden-coloured garment worn by Sita blew in the wind, it looked like a copper-coloured cloud illumined by the evening Sun in the sky.
tasyāstatsunasaṅ vaktramākāśē rāvaṇāṅkagam.

na rarāja vinā rāmaṅ vinālamiva paṅkajam৷৷3.52.18৷৷


ākāśē in the sky, rāvaṇāṅkagam in the lap of Ravana, sunasam with a beautiful nose, tasyāḥ vaktram her face, rāmaṅ vinā without Rama, vinālam without stalk, paṅkajam iva like lotus, na rarāja did not shine.

Sita's face with her beautiful nose on Ravana's lap and not on Rama's, shone no more like a lotus without its stalk.
babhūva jaladaṅ nīlaṅ bhittvā candra ivōditaḥ.

sulalāṭaṅ sukēśāntaṅ padmagarbhābhamavraṇam৷৷3.52.19৷৷

śuklaissuvimalairdantai prabhāvadbhiralaṅkṛtam.

tasyāstadvimalaṅ vaktramākāśē rāvaṇāṅkagam৷৷3.52.20৷৷

ruditaṅ vyapamṛṣṭāsraṅ candravatpriyadarśanam.

sunāsaṅ cārutāmrōṣṭhamākāśē hāṭakaprabham৷৷3.52.21৷৷


sulalāṭam a fine forehead, sukēśāntam beautiful hair, padmagarbhābham the glow of the inner side of a fully blossomed lotus, avraṇam whose face had no marks, śuklaiḥ white, suvimalaiḥ clean, prabhāvadbhi: shining, dantaiḥ teeth, alaṅkṛtam decorated, ruditam as she wept, vyapamṛṣṭāsram wiped her tears, sunāsam of nice nose, cārutāmrōṣṭham with lovely red lips, ākāśē in the sky, hāṭakaprabham having golden glow, rāvaṇāṅkagam held by Ravana, tasyāḥ her, tat that, vimalam pure, vaktram face, nīlam dark blue, jaladam rain cloud, bhittvā breaking through, uditaḥ risen,
candra iva like Moon, babhūva appeared.

Sita's face looked beautiful with her smooth forehead, shining hair and spotless complexion like the inside of a lotus, with clean, white, shining teeth, a nice nose and lovely red lips. She was continuously weeping and wiping her tears. Her face which was pleasing like the Moon on the lap of Ravana appeared as though the Moon was rising through dark clouds.
rākṣasēna samādhūtaṅ tasyāstadvadanaṅ śubham.

śuśubhē na vinā rāmaṅdivā candra ivōditaḥ৷৷3.52.22৷৷


rākṣasēna by the demon, samādhūtam being shaken, tasyāḥ her, śubham auspicious, tat that, vadanam face, rāmaṅ vinā without Rama, divā by daytime, uditaḥ arisen, candraḥ iva Moon like, na śuśubhē did not glow.

Shaken up by the demon and deprived of Rama's company, Sita's beautiful face looked like the Moon during daytime without any glow.
sā hēmavarṇā nīlāṅgaṅ maithilī rākṣasādhipam.

śuśubhē kāñcanī kāñcī nīlaṅ maṇimivāśritā৷৷3.52.23৷৷


nīlāṅgam dark body, rākṣasādhipam lord of the demons, āśritā was held, hēmavarṇā golden complexioned, sā maithilī that Maithili, nīlam maṇim sapphire, kāñcanī golden, kāñcī iva like a girdle, śuśubhē shone.

Golden-complexioned Sita, princess of Mithila, held by the dark-coloured king of the demons, shone like a girdle resting on a dark- blue sapphire.
sā padmagaurī hēmābhā rāvaṇaṅ janakātmajā.

vidyudghanamivāviśya śuśubhē taptabhūṣaṇā৷৷3.52.24৷৷


padmagaurī a lady like a bright lotus, hēmābhā of golden colour, taptabhūṣaṇā with bright gold
ornaments, sā janakātmajā that Janaka's daughter, rāvaṇam to Ravana, āviśya clinging, ghanam dark cloud, āviśya held by, vidyudiva like lightning, śuśubhē shone bright.

Bright like a golden lotus, adorned with gold ornaments, Sita, the daughter of Janaka, held by Ravana, looked like a streak of lightning shining bright in a dark cloud.
tasyā bhūṣaṇaghōṣēṇa vaidēhyā rākṣasādhipaḥ.

babhau sacapalō nīlassaghōṣa iva tōyadaḥ৷৷3.52.25৷৷


rākṣasādhipaḥ the lord of the demons, tasyāḥ vaidēhyāḥ that Vaidehi's, bhūṣaṇaghōṣēṇa by the tinkling ornaments, sacapalaḥ along with lightning, saghōṣaḥ roaring, nīlaḥ dark blue, tōyadaḥ iva like rain-cloud, babhau seemed.

The lord of the demons by the side of Sita, princess of Videha with her jingling ornaments looked like the dark-blue rain-cloud with its lightning and thunder.
uttamāṅgāccyutā tasyāḥ puṣpavṛṣṭissamantataḥ.

sītāyā hrimamāṇāyāḥ papāta dharaṇītalē৷৷3.52.26৷৷


hriyamāṇāyāḥ as she was being carried away, tasyāḥ sītāyāḥ that Sita's, uttamāṅgāt from the head, cyutāḥ dropped, puṣpavṛṣṭiḥ rain of flowers, samantataḥ all over, dharaṇītalē on the earth, papāta fell down.

As Sita was being carried away, the shower of flowers dropped from her head and scattered on the earth.
sā tu rāvaṇavēgēna puṣpavṛṣṭiḥ samantataḥ.

samādhūtā daśagrīvaṅ punarēvābhyavartata৷৷3.52.27৷৷


samantataḥ all over, sā puṣpavṛṣṭiḥ that shower of flowers, rāvaṇavēgēna by the speed of Ravana, samādhūtā swirling together, punaḥ again, daśagrīvamēva on to the ten-headed Ravana only, abhyavartata went towards.

The shower of flowers that fell flew towards the ten-headed Ravana again in the swirling motion (of the chariot).
abhyavartata puṣpāṇāṅ dhārā vaiśravaṇānujam.

nakṣatramālā vimalā mēruṅ nagamivōnnatam৷৷3.52.28৷৷


puṣpāṇām of the flowers, dhārā flow, vimalā clean, nakṣatramālā rows of stars, unnatam high, mēruṅ nagamiva mount Meru, vaiśravaṇānujam on the brother of Vaisravana, abhyavartata went towards.

The shower of flowers that dropped went round towards Ravana, brother of Vaisravana, like the bright garland of stars move towards mount Meru.
caraṇānnūpuraṅ bhraṣṭaṅ vaidēhyā ratnabhūṣitam.

vidyunmaṇḍalasaṅkāśaṅ papāta madhurasvanam৷৷3.52.29৷৷


vaidēhyāḥ Vaidehi's, caraṇāt from her feet, bhraṣṭam dropped, ratnabhūṣitam ornament studded with gems, nūpuram anklet, vidyunmaṇḍalasaṅkāśam looking like an orb of lightning, madhurasvanam making gentle sound, papāta fell down.

The gem-studded anklet of Sita, looking like an orb of lightning, dropped with a gentle sound.
tarupravālaraktā sā nīlāṅgaṅ rākṣasēśvaram.

prāśōbhayata vaidēhī gajaṅ kakṣyēva kāñcanī৷৷3.52.30৷৷


tarupravālaraktā red like tender leaves, sā vaidēhī that Vaidehi, nīlāṅgam dark coloured, rākṣasēśvaram Ravana, kāñcanī golden, kakṣyē binding chain, gajamiva like an elephant, prāśōbhayata made him glow.

With her golden girdle, Sita whose complexion resembled tender leaves looked like a golden chain to bind an elephant with. (Here Ravana is the elephant).
tāṅ mahōlkāmivākāśē dīpyamānāṅ svatējasā.

jahārā.kāśamāvisya sītāṅ vaiśravaṇānujaḥ৷৷3.52.31৷৷


vaiśravaṇānujaḥ brother of Vaisravana, mahōlkāmiva like a massive comet, svatējasā in her natural radiance, ākāśē in the sky, dīpyamānām glowing, tāṅ sītām Sita, ākāśam into the sky, āviśya having entered, jahāra carried.

The younger brother of Vaisravana (Ravana), like a massive comet, carried Sita, who was glowing in the radiance of her own beauty, and entered the sky.
tasyāstānyagnivarṇāni bhūṣaṇāni mahītalē.

saghōṣāṇyavakīryanta kṣīṇāstārā ivāmbarāt৷৷3.52.32৷৷


tasyāḥ her, agnivarṇāni bright as flame, tāni bhūṣaṇāni those ornaments, saghōṣāṇi tinkling, ambarāt from the sky, kṣīṇāḥ dim, tārāḥ iva like the stars, mahītalē on the ground, avakīryanta scattered.

Like the dim stars falling from the sky, her ornaments, bright as flame, scattered on the ground-tinkling.
tasyāsstanāntarādbhraṣṭō hārastārādhipadyutiḥ.

vaidēhyā nipatanbhāti gaṅgēva gaganāccyutā৷৷3.52.33৷৷


tasyāḥ vaidēhyāḥ Vaidehi's, stanāntarāt from between the breasts, bhraṣṭaḥ fell down, tārādhipadyutiḥ shining like the Moon, hāraḥ necklace, nipatan fell, gaganāt from the sky, cyutā dropped, gaṅgēva like river Ganga, bhāti seemed.

Sita's necklace shining like the bright Moon slipped from between her breasts like the river Ganga falling down from the sky.
utpātavātābhihatā nānādvijagaṇāyutāḥ.

mābhairiti vidhūtāgrā vyājahruriva pādapāḥ৷৷3.52.34৷৷


utpātavātābhihatāḥ hit by the stormy wind, nānādvijagaṇāyutāḥ filled with different flocks of birds, pādapāḥ trees, vidhūtāgrāḥ 'Be not afraid', mā bhaiḥ iti saying, 'Be not afraid', vyājahruḥ iva as if they said.

The trees filled with birds of all kinds, shaken at the top by stormy winds seemed to be saying to Sita, 'Be not afraid'.
nalinyō dhvastakamalāstrastamīnajalēcarāḥ.

sakhīmiva gatōcchvāsāmanvaśōcanta maithilīm৷৷3.52.35৷৷


dhvastakamalāḥ with lotuses withering, trastamīnajalēcarāḥ with disturbed aquatic animals like fishes, nalinyaḥ lotus ponds, gatōcchvāsām who lost her power to breathe, sakhīmiva like a companion, maithilīm Maithili, anvaśōcanta felt sorry for her.

Lotus-ponds with withering lotuses and with disturbed aquatic life like fishes in fright were as if grieving for Sita as one would grieve for a companion who is unable to breathe.
samantādabhisampatya siṅhavyāghramṛgadvijāḥ.

anvadhāvaṅstadā rōṣātsītāṅ chāyānugāminaḥ৷৷3.52.36৷৷


tadā then, siṅhavyāghramṛgadvijāḥ lions, tigers, deer and birds, samantāt abhisampatya coming together from all sides, rōṣāt due to anguish, chāyānugāminaḥ followers of the shadow, sītām Sita, anvadhāvan ran following her.

Then the lions, tigers, deer and birds gathered together in anger (also anguish) and ran after Sita's shadow.
jalaprapātāsramukhāśśṛṅgairucchritabāhubhiḥ.

sītāyāṅ hriyamāṇāyāṅ vikrōśantīva parvatāḥ৷৷3.52.37৷৷


sītāyām Sita, hriyamāṇāyām carried away, parvatāḥ mountains, jalaprapātāsramukhāḥ with tears rolling down in the form of waterfalls śṛṅgaiḥ representing the peaks, ucchritabāhubhiḥ lifting the hands high, vikrōśantīva seemed as if they were crying in grief.

The mountains were shedding tears in the form of waterfalls, and crying with hands lifted up in the form of peaks, while Sita was being carried away.
hriyamāṇāṅ tu vaidēhīṅ dṛṣṭvā dīnō divākaraḥ.

pratidhvastaprabhaśśrīmānāsītpāṇḍaramaṇḍalaḥ৷৷3.52.38৷৷


hriyamāṇām while being hijacked, vaidēhīm Sita, dṛṣṭvā seeing, śrīmān glorious, divākaraḥ Sun, dīnaḥ distressed, pratidhvastaprabhaḥ with dimmed lustre, pāṇḍuramaṇḍalaḥ white disk around, āsīt had.

Seeing Sita abducted, the glorious Sun looked lustreless and distraught. He developed a pale white disk around him.
nāsti dharmaḥ kutassatyaṅ nārjavaṅ nānṛśaṅsatā.

yatra rāmasya vaidēhīṅ bhāryāṅ harati rāvaṇaḥ৷৷3.52.39৷৷

iti sarvāṇi bhūtāni gaṇaśaḥ paryadēvayan.


yatra where, rāmasya Rama's, bhāryā wife, vaidēhīm Vaidehi, rāvaṇaḥ Ravana, harati is abducting, dharmaḥ dharma, nāsti is not there, satyam truth, kutaḥ where is it , ārjavam uprightness, na not, anṛśaṅsatā compassion, na not, iti thus, sarvāṇi all, bhūtāni beings, gaṇaśaḥ in groups, paryadēvayan wailed.

When Rama's consort, the princess of Videha, is being carried away by Ravana, how can there be rightousness or truth or uprightness or compassion for men? Thus bewailed all beings in groups.
vitrastakā dīnamukhā rurudurmṛgapōtakāḥ৷৷3.52.40৷৷

udvīkṣyōdvīkṣya nayanairasrapātāvilēkṣaṇāḥ.


mṛgapōtakāḥ young deer, vitrastakāḥ with fear, dīnamukhāḥ with distressed looks, asrapātāvilēkṣaṇāḥ unable to see clearly due to eyes filled with tears, nayanaiḥ with eyes, udvīkṣyōdvīkṣya looked up (at the direction) again and again, ruruduḥ wept.

The young deer full of fear and distress looked again and again with eyes blurred with tears at the direction in which Sita went. And wept.
supravēpitagātrāśca babhūvurvanadēvatāḥ৷৷3.52.41৷৷

vikrōśantīṅ dṛḍhaṅ sītāṅ dṛṣṭvā duḥkhaṅ tathā gatām.


tathā likewise, duḥkham grief, gatām experiencing, dṛḍham strongly, vikrōśantīm called out weeping, sītām to Sita, dṛṣṭavā seeing, vanadēvatāḥ sylvan deities, supravēpitagātrāśca with their bodies shivering, babhūvuḥ became.

The sylvan deities shivered, seeing Sita's grief and cried aloud.
tāṅ tu lakṣmaṇa rāmēti krōśantīṅ madhurasvaram৷৷3.52.42৷৷

avēkṣamāṇāṅ bahuśō vaidēhīṅ dharaṇītalam.

sa tāmākulakēśāntāṅ vipramṛṣṭaviśēṣakām৷৷3.52.43৷৷

jahārātma vināśāya daśagrīvō manassvinīm.


lakṣmaṇa Lakshmana, rāma Rama, iti saying so, madhurasvaram in a sweet voice, krōśantīm while she was weeping, bahuśaḥ many times, dharaṇītalam down to the ground, avēkṣamāṇām looknig at, ākulakēśāntām hair dishevelled, vipramṛṣṭa viśēṣakām with the auspicious mark on the forehead erased, manassvinīm high-minded woman, tāṅ vaidēhīm to that Vaidehi, saḥ daśagrīvaḥ that ten-headed Ravana, ātmavināśāya for his own destruction, jahāra abducted.

The ten- headed Ravana abducted Sita who was calling out, O Rama, O Lakshmana with her sweet voice, weeping , looking down on the earth; her hair dishevelled and auspicious, (vermilion) mark on the forehead erased. Ravana abducted this high-minded Sita for his own destruction.
tatastu sā cārudatī śucismitā vinākṛtā bandhujanēna maithilī.

apaśyatī rāghavalakṣmaṇāvubhau vivarṇavaktrābhayabhārapīḍitā৷৷3.52.44৷৷


tataḥ then, cārudatī of beautiful teeth, śucismilā a lady gifted with a sweet smile, bandhujanēna vinākṛtā distanced from her relatives, maithilī Maithili, rāghavalakṣmaṇau Rama and Lakshmana, ubhau both, apaśyatī unable to see, vivarṇavaktrā face grew pale, bhayabhārapīḍitā with the stress of fear.

Then Sita whose teeth were beautiful and smile, sweet was distanced from her kins, and, unable to see both Rama and Lakshmana, grew pale in intense fear.
ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīya ādikāvyē araṇyakāṇḍē dvipañcāśassargaḥ৷৷
Thus ends the fiftysecond sarga of Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
