सः he (Hanuman), तत्रस्थः from there, वीक्षमाणः looking out, मैथिलीम् for Mythili, मार्गमाणः searching for, अवेक्षमाणः looking down all around, सर्वाम् everywhere, तां महीम् that ground, अन्ववैक्षत surveyed.
Hanuman looked out from the simsupa tree all around for Mythili scanning the ground below.
मारुतिः Hanuman, तत्रस्थः from there, सन्तानकलताभिश्च creepers of Ashoka and, पादपैः trees, उपशोभिताम् splendid, दिव्यगन्धरसोपेताम् enriched with fine fragrance, सर्वतः all around, समलङ्कृताम् well decorated, नन्दनसङ्काशाम् resembling Nandana grove of Indra, मृगपक्षिभिः with animals and birds, आवृताम् surrounded, हर्म्यप्रासादसम्बाधाम् with tall mansions, कोकिलाकुलनिस्स्वनाम् filled with the warble of cuckoos, काञ्चनोत्पलपद्माभिः with golden lilies and lotuses, वापीभिः with lakes, उपशोभिताम् enchanting, बह्वासनकुथोपेताम् couches with rich coverings, बहुभूमिगृहायुताम् many underground homes, सर्वर्तुकुसुमैः trees full of blossoms of all seasons, फलवद्भिः fruits, पादपैः with trees, रम्याम् delightful, पुष्पितानाम् of the blossoms, अशोकानाम् of Ashoka tree, श्रिया with radiance, सूर्योदयप्रभाम् shedding the splendour of the rising Sun, प्रदीप्तामिव as if inflamed, असकृत् often, विनिष्पतद्भिः falling constantly, शतशः in hundreds, विहगैः with birds, निष्पत्रशाखाम् branches without leaves, क्रियमाणाम् इव as if rendering, चित्रैः with colourful, पुष्पावतंसकैः thick with flowers serving as earornaments (of the forest), आमूलपुष्पनिचितैः with blossoms up to the base of trees, शोकनाशनैः which can remove sorrow, अशोकैः with Ashoka, पुष्पभारातिभारैश्च loaded heavily with flowers, मेदिनीम् ground, स्पृशद्भिरिव as if touching, कुसुमितैः with blossoming, कर्णिकारैः with Karnikara flowers, सुपुष्पितैः fully bloomed, किंशुकैः with Kimsukas, ताम् that spot, समुदैक्षत surveyed.
Hanuman surveyed from the Simsupa tree the Ashoka grove of trees full of fine fragrance. It looked welldecorated like the Nandana garden of Indra. It teemed with animals and birds. It was filled with the voices of the cuckoos. It had tall mansions and underground chamber. There were golden lilies and lotuses in the lakes, enchanting couches with rich coverings and trees full of blossoms of all seasons and fruits in abundance With the Ashoka tree shedding showers of flowers from time to time the place shone with the splendour of Sunrise. It glittered like inflamed fire. The Ashoka tree had hundreds of colourful birds on the branches. It appeared as if it had branches without leaves which made them look like earornaments (of the grove). Ashoka flowers in bloom hung down to the base of the tree as if to take away the grief of the onlookers. The blossoms of the Karnikara and kimsuka brightened the whole grove.
तेषाम् of those, प्रभया with radiance, सः that, देशः place, सर्वतः all over, प्रदीप्त इव as though inflamed, विवृद्धमूलाः extended its roots, सुपुष्पिताः well bloomed, पुन्नागाः punnagas, सप्तपर्णाश्च saptaparnas and, तथा like wise, चम्पकोद्दालकाः champaka, uddalaka, शोभन्ते स्म shone bright.
The grove shone bright as if it were inflamed fire with beautiful trees like purnaga, saptaparna, champak and uddalaka in full bloom.
शातकुम्भनिभाः केचित्केचिदग्निशिखोपमाः।।5.15.10।।
नीलाञ्जननिभाः केचित्तत्राशोकास्सहस्रशः।
तत्र there, सहस्रशः thousands, अशोकाः Ashoka, केचित् some, शातकुम्भनिभाः shone like gold, केचित् some, अग्निशिखोपमाः like the flames of fire, केचित् some, नीलाञ्जनिभाः like the black collyrium.
There were thousands of ashoka trees some of which shone like gold, others like the flames of fire and some dark as collyrium.
विविधोद्यानम् with different types of gardens, नन्दनं यथा like the Nandana garden of Indra, चित्रम् colourful, चैत्ररथं यथा like the Chaitraratha garden of Kubera, अतिवृत्तम् surpassing, अचिन्त्यम् unimaginable, दिव्यम् divine, रम्यम् delightful, श्रिया with luminaries, वृतम् surrounded with, पुष्पज्योतिर्गणायुतम् shining with the radiance of countless varieties of blossoms, द्वितीयम् lovely, आकाशमिव like the sky, पुष्परत्नशतैः hundreds of gems in the form of flowers, चित्रम् wonderful, द्वितीयम् a second (besides the four oceans which form the boundary of the earth), सागरम् ocean (firmament), यथा likewise, सर्वर्तुपुष्पैः bearing flowers of all seasons, मधुगन्धिभिः honey scented, पादपैः with trees, निचितम् filled, नानानिनादैः with various sounds, मृगगणैः by flocks of tamed animals, द्विजैः by birds, रम्यम् enchanting, अनेकगन्धप्रवहम् with various fragrances wafting, पुण्यगन्धम् divine fragrance, मनोरमम् pleasing to the heart.
The grove with different types of gardens spread over looked like the Nandana garden of Indra and Chaitraratha garden of Kubera. It surpassed every other garden. It was unimaginable in splendour. It was divine and delightful filled with the radiance of countless varieties of blossoms shining like stars, like a second firmament. It was like another ocean filled with precious gems of flowers. It had trees with flowers of honeyscented fragrance. Sounds of animals and birds filled the air. It was pleasing to the heart with various divine fragrances wafted (by the breeze)৷৷
सः वानरपुङ्गवः that monkey leader, तस्याम् in that, अशोकवनिकायाम् in Ashoka grove, मध्ये midst, गन्धाढ्याम् highly fragrant, द्वितीयम् another, गन्धमादनमिव like mount Gandhamadana, स्तम्भसहस्रेण with a thousand pillars, स्थितम् stood by, कैलासपाण्डुरम् white like mount Kailasa, प्रवालकृतसोपानम् having stairs paved with corals, तप्तकाञ्चनवेदिकम् having altars of bright molten gold, चक्षूंषि eyes, मुष्णन्तमिव as if stealing away, श्रिया with brilliance, द्योतमानमिव as if shining, विमलम् white, प्रांशुभावत्वात् due to its light, अम्बरम् sky, उल्लिखन्तमिव as if scratching, अविदूरस्थम् not far from there, उच्छ्रितम् tall, चैत्यप्रासादम् a big temple ददर्श saw.
The monkey leader saw a lofty templelike structure in the midst of the Ashoka grove which was highly fragrant and appeared like another indescribable structure that stood on a thousand pillars like another Gandhamadana mountain. It gleamed white like mount Kailasa. Its stairs were paved with corals. The altars were made of brightly polished gold. This structure glowing with brilliance was as if stealing the eyes. It looked white with light and lofty as though scratching the sky.
ततो मलिनसंवीतां राक्षसीभिस्समावृताम्।।5.15.18।।
उपवासकृशां दीनां निश्श्वसन्तीं पुनः पुनः।
ददर्श शुक्लपक्षादौ चन्द्ररेखामिवामलाम्।।5.15.19।।
ततः then, मलिनसंवीताम् clad in soiled clothes, राक्षसीभिः by female demons, समावृताम् surrounded, उपवासकृशाम् emaciated through fasting, दीनाम् a pitiable, पुनः पुनः repeatedly, निश्श्वसन्तीम् sighing, शुक्लपक्षादौ at the beginning of the bright fortnight, अमलाम् white, चन्द्ररेखामिव like the crescent Moon, ददर्श saw.
Then he beheld a lady surrounded by female demons. Clad in soiled clothes she looked dejected, emaciated through fasting and was sighing repeatedly. She appeared thin and pale like the crescent Moon at the beginning of the bright fortnight.
मन्दप्रख्यायमानेन रूपेण रुचिरप्रभाम्।
पिनद्धां धूमजालेन शिखामिव विभावसोः।।5.15.20।।
मन्दप्रख्यायमानेन faintly recognisable, रूपेण in form, धूमजालेन by a cluster of smoke, पिनद्धाम् engulfed, रुचिरप्रभाम् with bright shine, विभावसोः of fire, शिखामिव like the tip.
Her form was faintly recognisable. She had a lovely radiance on account of her beautiful form. She looked like the tip of burning fire engulfed in a cloud of smoke.
पीतेनैकेन संवीतां क्लिष्टेनोत्तमवाससा।
सपङ्कामनलङ्कारां विपद्मामिव पद्मिनीम्।।5.15.21।।
क्लिष्टेन wornout body, पीतेन by yellow cloth, एकेन only one, उत्तमवाससा choicest cloth, संवीताम् clad in, अनलङ्काराम् without unadorned, सपङ्कम् with dust, विपद्माम् devoid of lotuses, पद्मिनीमिव like a lotus pond.
She was wearing an excellent single yellow cloth which was soiled. Unadorned, she looked like a muddy lotuspond bereft of lotuses.
व्रीडितां दुःखसन्तप्तां परिम्लानां तपस्विनीम्।
ग्रहेणाङ्गारकेणेव पीडितामिव रोहिणीम्।।5.15.22।।
व्रीडिताम् she was bashful, दुःखसन्तप्ताम् she was tormented with agony, परिम्लानाम् withered, तपस्विनीम् a helpless lady, अङ्गारकेण ग्रहेण by the planet Mars, पीडिताम् tormented, रोहिणीम् इव like the Rohini star.
She was bashful, tormented with agony, dejected with a withered look. She appeared like the star Rohini oppressed by planet Mars.
अश्रुपूर्णमुखीं दीनां कृशामनशनेन च।
शोकध्यानपरां दीनां नित्यं दुःखपरायणाम्।।5.15.23।।
अश्रुपूर्णमुखीम् with her face filled with tears, दीनाम् dejected, अनशनेन by fasting, कृशाम् shrunken, शोकध्यानपराम् meditating in grief, नित्यम् always, दीनाम् dejected, दुःखपरायणाम् overwhelmed with sorrow.
Her face was filled with tears. She looked dejected and emaciated due to fasting. Always plunged in grief, she looked like one meditating in tears.
प्रियं जनमपश्यन्तीं पश्यन्तीं राक्षसीगणम्।
स्वगणेन मृगीं हीनां श्वगणाभिवृतामिव।।5.15.24।।
प्रियम् dear, जनम् relatives, अपश्यन्तीम् not seeing, राक्षसीगणम् ogresses, पश्यन्तीम् seeing, स्वगणेन by her own kith, हीनाम् श्वगणाभिवृताम् surrounded by a group of hounds, मृगीम् इव like a female deer.
Unable to see her dear kith and kin, she sat guarded by ogresses. She appeared like a doe separated from the herd and encircled by a pack of hounds.
नीलनागाभया वेण्या जघनं गतयैकया।
नीलया नीरदापाये वनराज्या महीमिव।।5.15.25।।
सुखार्हां दुःखसन्तप्तां व्यसनानामकोविदाम्।
जघनम् the hips, गतया by touching, एकया by only one, नीलनागाभया which looked like a black serpent, वेण्या with a braid of hair, नीरदापाये at the close of rainy season, नीलया with a dark one, वनराज्या by a range of forest, महीमिव like the earth, सुखार्हाम् who deserves to be happy, दुःखसन्तप्ताम् burning in grief, व्यसनानाम् of worries, अकोविदाम् who had not experienced.
She (from behind) appeared like the earth covered with a range of trees at the end of rainy season with her single long black braid touching her hips looking like a black serpent. She who deserved to be happy and had not experienced worries was burning in grief. (एकवेणी is a trait of a प्रोषितभर्तृका Sita who was forced to stay in Lanka was a प्रोषितभर्तृका नायिका.)
विशालाक्षीम् largeeyed lady, अधिकम् very much, मलिनाम् soiled, कृशाम् thin, ताम् her, समीक्ष्य after observing, उपपादिभिः by establishing, कारणैः with reasons, सीतेति She is Sita, तर्कयामास he started deliberating within himself.
After seeing the largeeyed lady worn out and dressed in soiled clothes, Hanuman started deliberating in himself and guessed it was Sita for strong reasons.
ह्रियमाणा तदा तेन रक्षसा कामरूपिणा।।5.15.27।।
यथारूपा हि दृष्टा वै तथारूपेयमङ्गना।
तदा then, कामरूपिणा by one who can assume any form at will, तेन रक्षसा by that demon, ह्रियमाणा being kidnapped, यथारूपा the same form, दृष्टा after seeing, इयम् this, अङ्गना lady, तथारूपा has the same form.
Beholding the form of the largeeyed lady, Hanuman guessed, 'This is similar to the form seen while the demon was kidnapping her'.
पूर्णचन्द्राननाम् with face like fullmoon, सुभ्रूम् with shapely eyebrows, चारुवृत्तपयोधराम् of beautiful round breasts, सर्वाः all, दिशः directions, प्रभया with radiance, वितिमिराः bright, कुर्वतीम् rendering, देवीम् the queen, नीलकेशीम् one with dark hair, बिम्बोष्ठीम् lips red like Bimba fruit, सुमध्याम् with slenderwaist, सुप्रतिष्ठताम् with pleasing limbs, पद्मपलाशाक्षीम् eyes like lotus petal, मन्मथस्य of Kamadeva, रतिं यथा like Rati, सीताम् Sita.
Her face resembled the fullmoon which dispelled the encircling gloom by its radiance. She had a slender waist, beautiful round breasts, shapely eyebrows, red lips, dark hair, and eyes like lotus petals with attractive limbs. She was comparable to Rati, consort of Cupid.
पूर्णचन्द्रप्रभामिव like the radiance of fullmoon, सर्वस्य entire, जगतः world, इष्टाम् favourite, नियताम् austere, तापसीमिव like an ascetic, भूमौ on the ground, आसीनाम् seated, सुतनुम् lady with a good form.
Just as the radiance of the full moon is cherished by all, this lady was liked by every one in this world. With her lovely figure she was seated on the ground like an austere ascetic.
निःश्वासबहुलां भीरुं भुजगेन्द्रवधूमिव।।5.15.31।।
शोकजालेन महता विततेन न राजतीम्।
भीरुम् a timid lady, भुजगेन्द्रवधूमिव like the consort of the serpent lord, निःश्वासबहुलाम् hissing, महता with great, विततेन (widely spread), शोकजालेन by a cobweb of grief, न राजतीम् was gloomy.
The timid lady was hissing (sighing) like the consort of the serpent king, who being caught in a widespread cobweb of grief was looking gloomy.
संसक्तां धूमजालेन शिखामिव विभावसोः।।5.15.32।।
तां स्मृतीमिव सन्दिग्धामृद्धिं निपतितामिव।
धूमजालेन by a cloud of smoke, संसक्ताम् obscured, विभावसो of fire, शिखामिव like the flames of fire, सन्दिग्धाम् blurred, स्मृतीमिव like memory, निपतिताम् one who has fallen, ऋद्धिमिव like the fortune, ताम् her.
She was like the flames of fire obscured by smoke. She appeared like the text of Smriti of doubtful meaning, a treasure that has been thrown away
विहतामिव च श्रद्धामाशां प्रतिहतामिव।।5.15.33।।
सोपसर्गां यथा सिद्धिं बुद्धिं सकलुषामिव।
विहतामिव as if lost, श्रद्धाम् faith, आशां hope, प्रतिहताम् obstructed, आशामिव like desires, सोपसर्गाम् inhibited, सिद्धिमिव like success, सकलुषाम् vitiated, बुद्धिमिव like the intellect.
She was like faith shattered, hope frustrated, desires blocked by obstacles, success vitiated, fame marred and intellect blurred.
अभूतेनापवादेन कीर्तिं निपतितामिव।।5.15.34।।
रामोपरोधव्यथितां रक्षोहरणकर्शिताम्।
अभूतेन with a false, अपवादेन by rumour, निपतिताम् fallen, कीर्तिमिव like the fame, रामोपरोधव्यथिताम् was pained by the obstruction to meet Rama, रक्षोहरणकर्शिताम् emaciated on account of abduction.
She appeared like fame besmirched by false allegation. She was pained by the obstruction to meet Rama and emaciated by abduction.
अबलां मृगशाबाक्षीं वीक्षमाणां ततस्ततः।।5.15.35।।
बाष्पाम्बुपरिपूर्णेन कृष्णवक्राक्षिपक्ष्मणा।
वदनेनाप्रसन्नेन निःश्वसन्तीं पुनः पुनः।।5.15.36।।
मृगशाबाक्षीम् fawneyed, बाष्पाम्बुपरिपूर्णेन eyes filled with tears, कृष्णवक्राक्षिपक्ष्मणा with her dark and curved eyelashes, अप्रसन्नेन unhappy, वदनेन with her face, ततस्ततः here and there, वीक्षमाणम् looking, अबलाम् lady.
The fawneyed lady was looking here and there with her dark, curved eyelashes. Her unhappy face was streaming with tears.
मलपङ्कधरां दीनां मण्डनार्हाममण्डिताम्।
प्रभां नक्षत्रराजस्य कालमेघैरिवावृताम्।।5.15.37।।
मलपङ्कधराम् covered with dirt and mud, दीनाम् wretched, मण्डनार्हाम् one who deserved to be adorned, आमण्डिताम् not wearing any ornaments, कालमेघैः with dark clouds, आवृताम् covered by, नक्षत्रराजस्य king of stars, प्रभामिव like the radiance.
Covered with dirt and mud and shorn of adornments even though she deserved them, she looked wretched like the radiance of the Moon muffled by dark clouds.
तस्य संदिदिहे बुद्धिर्मुहुः सीतां निरीक्ष्य तु।
आम्नायानामयोगेन विद्यां प्रशिथिलामिव।।5.15.38।।
आम्नायानाम् of the great shastriclore, अयोगेन by not practising, प्रशिथिलाम् slackened, विद्यामिव like the knowledge, सीताम् Sita, निरीक्ष्य having observed, तस्य his, बुद्धिस्तु intellect also, मुहुः after seeing carefuly again and again, संदिदिहे doubted.
Hanuman did recognise Sita after looking at her carefully again and again even as one is able to make out knowledge of shastriclore forgotten with lapse of time and lack of practice.
हनुमान Hanuman, अनलङ्कृताम् devoid of decoration, संस्कारेण by virtue of previous practice, हीनाम् devoid, अर्थान्तरम् changing its meaning, गताम् interpreted thus, वाचम् यथा like the words, सीताम् Sita, दुःखेन with great difficulty, बुबुधे he identified.
Just as an unclear expression which has undergone certain changes in meaning due to lack of usage over a long period is understood by virtue of previous practice so also Hanuman had difficulty in recognising Sita who was devoid of any decoration.
तां समीक्षय विशालाक्षीं राजपुत्रीमनिन्दिताम्।
तर्कयामास सीतेति कारणैरुपपादिभिः।।5.15.40।।
विशालाक्षीम् largeeyed lady, अनिन्दिताम् blameless, तां राजपुत्रीम् that princess, समीक्ष्य after observing, उपपादिभिः by the right signs, कारणैः with reasons, सीतेति Sita only, तर्कयामास he came to conclusion after deliberation.
After close observation of different signs and deliberation with reasons he came to the conclusion that the largeeyed lady is the same blameless princess Sita.
वैदेह्या यानि चाङ्गेषु तदा रामोऽन्वकीर्तयत्।
तान्याभरणजालानि गात्रशोभीन्यलक्षयत्।।5.15.41।।
सुकृतौ कर्णवेष्टौ च श्वदंष्ट्रौ च सुसंस्थितौ।
मणिविद्रुमचित्राणि हस्तेष्वाभरणानि च।।5.15.42।।
श्यामानि चिरयुक्तत्वात्तथा संस्थानवन्ति च।
तदा then, रामः Rama, यानि those, आभरणजालानि the kind of ornaments, वैदेह्याः for Vaidehi, अङ्गेषु on her limbs, अन्वकीर्तयत् described, गात्रशोभीनि ornaments that add beauty to the limbs, तानि those, अलक्षयत् observed, सुकृतौ wellcrafted, कर्णवेष्टौ च earornaments, सुसंस्थितौ properly fit, श्वदंष्ट्रौ च Svadamshtras also, हस्तेषु on hands, मणिविद्रुमचित्राणि wonderfully variegated with corals and other gems, आभरणानि च ornaments also, चिरयुक्तत्वात् by being used for a long time, श्यामानि blackened, संस्थानवन्ति च with marks of the ornaments formed on the body.
Hanuman observed the ornaments worn by Vaidehi adding grace to her limbs which Rama had described.They were wellcrafted earrings and wellfit Savdamshtras. He noticed wonderful, variegated ornaments of corals and gems as well as those worn on hands. They were blackened for long wear and Sita had marks of wearing them on her body. (Note: This is a pair ornaments shaped like dog's teeth. It is not known on which part of the body they were worn).
तानि those, रामः Rama, यानि such of those, अन्वकीर्तयत् he described, तान्येव those only, अहम् I, मन्ये I think, तत्र there, यानि those, अवहीनानि dropped, तानि those, अहम् I, नोपलक्षये I have not seen, अस्याः her, यानि those, नावहीनानि not dropped, तानि those, इमानि only, संशयः doubt, न no.
"I think these ornaments are the same that were described by Rama. Those dropped (by Sita) are not found on her body. These were not dropped.There is no doubt."
पीतम् yellow, कनकपट्टाभम् shining like gold cloth, शुभम् auspicious one, उत्तरीयम् upper garment, स्रस्तम् slipped, नगासक्तम् stuck to the tree, तत् that, वस्त्रम् garment, तदा then, प्लवङ्गमैः by monkeys, दृष्टम् seen.
"The shining yellow upper garment like a golden cloth was torn. Flung down, it stuck to a tree which the monkeys noticed.
भूषणानि च मुख्यानि दृष्टानि धरणीतले।
अनयैवापविद्धानि स्वनवन्ति महान्ति च।।5.15.46।।
नयैव by her alone, धरणीतले on the ground, अपविद्धानि thrown down, स्वनवन्ति making sound, महान्ति excellent, मुख्यानि choicest, भूषणानि च and ornaments, दृष्टानि were seen.
"The jingling, choice ornaments were thrown down on the ground.
इदं चिरगृहीतत्वाद्वसनं क्लिष्टवत्तरम्।
तथाऽपि नूनं तद्वर्णं तथा श्रीमद्यथेतरत्।।5.15.47।।
इदम् this, वसनम् cloth, चिरगृहीतत्वात् worn long, क्लिष्टवत्तरम् crumpled, तथापि even so, नूनम् surely, तद्वर्णम् its colour, इतरत् like another fresh cloth, यथा similar, तथा so, श्रीमत् shining.
"This cloth worn long is crumpled. Even then it has retained its shine and looks fresh.
इयं कनकवर्णाङ्गी रामस्य महिषी प्रिया।
प्रणष्टापि सती याऽस्य मनसो न प्रणश्यति।।5.15.48।।
कनकवर्णाङ्गी with a golden complexion, इयम् this lady, रामस्य Rama's, प्रिया beloved, महिषी queen, सती wife, या she, प्रणष्टापि even though lost (whereabouts not known till then), अस्य his, मनस: in the mind, न प्रणश्यति does not disappear.
"This lady of golden complexion is Rama's beloved queen who does not disappear from his mind, although away.
इयं सा यत्कृते रामश्चतुर्भिः परितप्यते।
कारुण्येनानृशंस्येन शोकेन मदनेन च।।5.15.49।।
स्त्री प्रणष्टेति कारुण्यादाश्रितेत्यानृशंस्यतः।
पत्नी नष्टेति शोकेन प्रियेति मदनेन च।।5.15.50।।
यत्कृते for whose sake, रामः Rama, प्रणष्टा lost, स्त्री इति that she is a woman, कारुण्यात् with compassion, आश्रितेति one who sought refuge, अनृशंस्यतः due to gentleness, नष्टा lost, पत्नी इति this is his wife, शोकेन with sorrow, प्रिया इति beloved one, मदनेन with passion, कारुण्येन with compassion, आनृशंस्येन with mercy, शोकेन with sorrow, मदनेन with passion, चतुर्भिः with fourfold concern, परितप्यते he is suffering, सा that one is, इयम् this lady.
"She is that same lady for whom Rama has been passing through compassion, benevolence, grief and passion. He is compassionate considering her a woman, kind and benevolent since she is his dependent, stricken with grief for losing a wife and passionate since she is his beloved.
अस्या देव्या यथा रूपमङ्गप्रत्यङ्गसौष्ठवम्।
रामस्य च यथा रूपं तस्येयमसितेक्षणा।।5.15.51।।
अस्याः her, देव्याः of the devi, रूपम् form, अङ्गप्रत्यङ्गसौष्ठवम् charming body with perfectly symmetrical limbs, यथा as such, च and, तस्य his, रूपम् form, यथा as, इयम् this lady, असितेक्षणा blackeyed .
"This blackeyed Sita and her divine, charming body with perfect limbs are a match for Rama's figure.
अस्याः her, देव्याः divine queen's, मनः mind, तस्मिन् in him, तस्य his, अस्यां च in her, प्रतिष्ठितम् firmly fixed, तेन therefore, इयम् this lady, धर्मात्मा the righteous self, स च and he, मुहूर्तमपि for a moment, जीवति alive.
"The divine queen's mind is firmly fixed on Rama and his mind, fixed on her. For this reason she and the righteous self (Rama) are able to survive till this moment.
दुष्करं कृतवान्रामो हीनो यदनया प्रभुः।
धारयत्यात्मनो देहं न शोकेनावसीदति।।5.15.53।।
प्रभुः lord, रामः Rama, अनया with her, हीनः separated, आत्मनः his, देहम् body, धारयति इति यत् held in this way, शोकेन with grief, न अवसीदति is not perishing, दुष्करम् a task (difficult), कृतवान् accomplished.
"Lord Rama had accomplished a difficult task in sustaining the body this way without allowing it to sink and perish during separation from her.
दुष्करं कुरुते रामो य इमां मत्तकाशिनीम्।
सीतां विना महाबाहुर्मुहूर्तमपि जीवति।।5.15.54।।
यः he who, इमाम् such, मत्तकाशिनीम् a lady with intoxicating lustre, सीतां विना without Sita, मुहूर्तमपि even for a while, जीवति survives, महाबाहुः strongarmed, रामः Rama, दुष्करम् difficult, कुरुते is doing.
"Rama, the strongarmed hero has accomplished a difficult task by surviving even for a moment without this Sita who has intoxicating lustre".
एवं सीतां तदा दृष्ट्वा हृष्टः पवनसम्भवः।
जगाम मनसा रामं प्रशशंस च तं प्रभुम्।।5.15.55।।
पवनसम्भवः son of the Windgod, तदा then, सीताम् Sita, दृष्ट्वा seeing, एवम् that way, हृष्टः was glad, मनसा in mind, रामम् Rama, जगाम reached, तम् him, प्रभुम् lord, प्रशशंस च he praised.
On seeing Sita, the son of the Windgod, felt glad at heart and mentally reached Rama the lord of the world. Hanuman was full of praise for Rama. इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये सुन्दरकाण्डे पञ्चदशस्सर्गः। Thus ends the fifteenth sarga in Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
