Sloka & Translation

[Rama laments over Lakshmana's unconscious state. Hanuman is directed by Sushena to Himalayas and get herbs for treating Lakshmana. Hanuman gets the herbs and on inhalation of the herbs Lakshmana recovers.]

शक्त्याविनिहतंदृष्टवारावणेनबलीयसा ।

लक्ष्मणंसमरेशूरंरूधिरौघपरिप्लुतम् ।।6.102.1।।

स दत्त्वातुमुलंयुद्धंरावणस्यदुरात्मनः ।

विसृजन्नेवबाणौघान् सुषेणमिदमब्रवीत् ।।6.102.2।।


बलीयसा exceedingly mighty, रावणेन by Ravana, शक्त्या by the javelin, विनिहतम् struck, समरे in fight, शूरम् heroic, रूधिरौघपरिप्लुतम् soaked in blood, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, दृष्टवा seeing, सःhe, दुरात्मनःevil minded, रावणस्य Ravana's, तुमुलम् intense, युद्धम् fight, दत्त्वा given, बाणौघान् arrows, विसृजन्नेव even discharging, सुषेणम् Sushena, इदम् this, अब्रवीत् spoke

Seeing Lakshmana struck by exceedingly mighty, evil minded Ravana's javelin and soaked in blood Rama giving intense fight by discharging arrows also spoke as follows to Sushena.
एषरावणवीर्येणलक्ष्मणःपतितोभुविः ।

सर्पवच्चेष्टतेवीरोभूमौशोकमुदिरीयन् ।।6.102.3।।


रावणवीर्येण prowess of Ravana, भुवि earth, पतितः fallen, एषः like that, वीरः hero, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, शोकम् sorrow, उदीरयन् writhing, सर्पवत् like snake, भूमौ on the ground, चेष्टते rolling

'Heroic Lakshmana struck by Ravana, fell on the ground and writhing like a snake and rolling made me sad'.
शोणितार्द्रमिमंवीरंप्राणैःप्रियतरंमम ।

पश्यतोममकाशक्तिर्योद्धुंपर्याकुलात्मनः ।।6.102.4।।


मम my, प्राणैः more than life, प्रियतरम् loving, शोणितार्द्रम् soaked in blood, इमम् this way, वीरम् heroic, पश्यतः as I see, पर्याकुलात्मनः mind agitated, मम me, योद्धुम् to fight, शक्तिः energy, का how

' As I see Lakshmana, who is more than my life, and loving soaked in blood, my mind is agitated. How can I have the energy to fight?'
अ यं स समरश्लाघीभ्रातामेशुभलक्षणः ।

यदिपञ्चत्वमापन्नःप्राणैर्मेकिंसुखेनवा ।।6.102.5।।


समरश्लाघी praised for efficiency in war, शुभलक्षणः endowed with auspicious marks, सःhe, अयम् this, मे my, भ्राता brother, पञ्चत्वम् death, आपन्नःयदि if meets, मे my, प्राणैः life, सुखेनवा happiness, किम् What use

'Lakshmana, my brother, is praised for his efficiency in war, is endowed with auspicious marks. If he is met with death, what use is my happiness and life for me?'
लज्जतीवहिवीर्यंभ्रश्यतीवकराद्धनुः ।

सायकाव्यवसीदन्तिदृष्टिर्भाष्पवशंगता ।।6.102.6।।


वीर्यम् heroism, लज्जतीव shy, धनुः bow, करात् from hand, भ्रश्यतीव slip from, सायकाः arrows, व्यवसीदन्ति dropping, दृष्टिः vision, बाष्पवशम् filled with tears, गताहि gone

'My heroism is shy, my bow slips from my hand, arrows are dropping, my vision is blurred with tears with my brother gone.'
अवसीदन्तिगात्राणिस्वप्नयानेनृणामिव ।

चिन्तामेवर्ततेतीव्रामुमूर्षापि च जायते ।।6.102.7।।


स्वप्नयाने in dream, नृणामिव while walking, गात्राणि limbs, अवसीदन्ति retrieves, मे my, चिन्ता grief, तीव्रा intense, वर्तते growing, मुमूर्षापि च being on the point of death, जायते desire to live is going

'Seeing Lakshmana in this state, just as in dream, my limbs are retrieving while walking, being on the point of death intense sorrow is growing and the desire to live is gone.'
भ्रातरंनिहतंदृष्टवारावणेनदुरात्मना ।

विष्टनन्तंतुदुःखार्तंमर्मण्यभिहतंभृशम् ।।6.102.8।।


दुरात्मना evil minded, रावणेन by Ravana, निहतम् wounded, विष्टनन्तम् filled with grief, दुःखार्तम् sad, भृशम् breathing heavily, मर्मणि vital parts, अभिहतम् struck, भ्रातरम् brother, दृष्टवा seeing

Seeing the brother struck in vital parts and wounded by the evilminded Ravana, Rama was filled with grief and breathing heavily.
राघवोभ्रातरंदृष्टवाप्रियंप्राणंबहिश्चरम् ।

दुःखेनमहताविष्टोध्यानशोकपरायणः ।।6.102.9।।


राघवो Raghava, भ्रातरं brother, दृष्टवा seeing, प्रियं dear, प्राणंबहिश्चरम् life outside, दुःखेन in grief, महताविष्टो overcome by anxiety, ध्यानशोकपरायणःgave himself to great sorrow lost senses

Beholding his dear brother, who is his life outside him overcome by anxiety, Rama lost senses and gave himself to great sorrow.
परंविषादमापन्नोविललापाकुलेन्द्रियः ।

भ्रातरंनिहतंदृष्टवालक्ष्मणंरणपांसुषु ।।6.102.10।।


निहतम् wounded, भ्रातरम् brother, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, रणपांसुषु in the battlefield, दृष्टवा seeing, परम् very, विषादम् sad, आपन्नः overtaken, आकुलेन्द्रियःlost control over senses, विललाप grieved

Seeing the wounded brother Lakshmana in the battlefield, the very sad Rama lost control over his senses and grieved.
विजयोऽपिहिमेशूर न प्रियायोपकल्पते ।

अचक्षुर्विषयश्चन्द्रःकांप्रीतिंजनयिष्यति ।।6.102.11।।


शूर hero, विजयोपि if victorious, मे for me, प्रियाय loving, न उपकल्पते not give joy, अचक्षुर्विषयः for one who has lost vision, चन्द्रः moon, काम् desire, प्रीतिम् जनयिष्यति What pleasure will it give

'O Hero! Even victory for me will not give joy. What pleasure will one have if he desires to see the moon when he has lost vision?'
किंमेयुद्धेनकिंप्राणैर्युद्धकार्यं न विद्यते ।

यत्रायंनिहतश्शेतेरणमूर्धनिलक्ष्मणः ।।6.102.12।।


मे to me, युद्धेन in the battle, किम् what, प्राणैः life, किम् what, अयंलक्ष्मणः this Lakshmana, रणमूर्धनि in the forefront of battle, निहतः struck, यत्र here, शेते lying, युद्धकार्यम् purpose of fighting, न विद्यते not known

'What purpose is there to fight in battle or in life with Lakshmana lying in the forefront struck in the battlefield?'
यथैवमांवनंयान्तमनुयातिमहाद्युतिः ।

अहमप्युपयास्यामितथैवैनंयमक्षयम् ।।6.102.13।।


महाद्युतिः endowed with splendour, वनम् forest, यान्तम् followed, माम् me, यथैव in the same way, अनुयाति follow, अहमपि I also, तथैव in the same way, एनम्, यमक्षयम् god of death, उपयास्यामि follow him

'Lakshmana who is endowed with splendour followed me to the forest. In the same way I will follow him to the god of death.'
इष्टबन्धुजनोनित्यंमां स नित्यमनुव्रतः ।

इमामवस्थांगमितोराक्षसैःकूटयोधिभिः ।।6.102.14।।


इष्टबन्धुजनः loved kin, नित्यम् always, माम् me, अनुव्रतः devoted to me, सः he, कूटयोधिभिः has been led to, राक्षसैः Rakshasas, इमाम् this way, अवस्थाम् situation, गमितः pass by

'Lakshmana, who loved the kin and was devoted to me, has been led to pass by the Rakshasas.'
देशेदेशेकलत्राणिदेशेदेशे च बान्दवाः ।

तंतुदेशं न पश्यामियत्रभ्रातासहोदरः ।।6.102.15।।


देशेदेशे everywhere, कलत्राणि wives, देशेदेशे च everywhere, बान्दवाः relatives, सहोदरः sibling brother, भ्राता brother, यत्र here, तम् him, देशंतु no place, न पश्यामि not found

'Wives can be found everywhere, relatives can be found everywhere but biological sibling brothers are not found in any place.'
इत्येवंविलपन्तंतंशोकविह्वलितेद्रनियम् ।

विवेष्टमानंकरुणमच्छवसन्तंपुनःपुनः ।।6.102.16।।

राममाश्वासयनवीरसुषेनोवाक्यमब्रवीत

इत्येवम् in this manner, विलपन्तम् grieving, शोकविह्वलितेद्रनियम् lost control over senses in grief विवेष्टमानम् lost sense of discrimination, पुनःपुनः again and again, करुणम् pitiable, उच्छवसन्तम् sighing, तम् him, रामRama, वीर hero, सुषेनो Sushena, आस्वसयन consoling, अब्रवीत spoke, वाक्यम words

Grieving in this manner, lost control over senses, and discrimination, Rama was sighing again and again and was pitiable. Sushena, the hero consoling Rama spoke these words.
किनुराज्येनदुर्धर्षलक्ष्मणेनविनामम ।

कथंवक्ष्याम्यहंत्वम्बांसुमित्रांपुत्रवत्सलाम् ।।6.102.17।।


दुर्धर्षलक्ष्मणेनविना without Lakshmana who is difficult to win, मम me, राज्येन kingdom, किंनु why, पुत्रवत्सलाम् lover of son, अम्बाम् mother, सुमित्राम् to Sumithra, अहम् I, किंनुवक्ष्यामि What can I tell

'Without Lakshmana who is difficult to win, what use is kingdom to me? What can I tell mother Sumithra who is the lover of her son?'
न मृथोयंमहाबाहो लक्ष्मणोलक्षमिवर्धन: ।

न चास्यविक्रतंवक्त्रानापिशस्वासं न निष्प्रभं ।।6.102.18।।


महाबाहो O broad shouldered, लक्षमिवर्धन: enhancer of prosperity, लक्ष्मणोthis Lakshmana, न मृथो not dead, चास्यविक्रतंnot changed वक्त्रा face नापि also न निष्प्रभंnot lost splendour

O Broad shouldered Rama! Enhancer of prosperity, Lakshmana is not dead. His face has not changed, and he has not lost splendour.
सुप्रभंसुप्रसन्नं च मुखमस्यनिरीक्ष्यताम् ।।6.102.19।।

पद्मपत्रतलौहस्तौसुप्रसन्ने च लोचने ।


सुप्रभम् radiant, सुप्रसन्नं pleasing, अस्य his, मुखम् face, निरीक्ष्यताम् seeing, हस्तौ palms, पद्मपत्रतलौ red lotus like, लोचने च and eyes, सुप्रसन्ने very pleasant

'His face is radiant and pleasing to see. His palms are like red lotuses and his eyes are so pleasant'.
ऐ वं न विद्यतेरूपंगतासूनांविशम्पते ।।6.102.20।।

माविषादंमृकृथावीरसप्राणोऽयमरिन्दम ।


विशम्पते such form, वीर heroes, गतासूनाम् ceased of life, रूपम् form, ईदृशब् marks, न दृश्यते not seen, अरिन्दम tamer of foes, अयम् this, सप्राणः those who are alive, विषादम् grief, माकृथाःI tell you

"O hero! Those who cease to live will not have such appearance and signs. He who is a tamer of foes is alive. I tell you, do not grieve."
आ ख्यासतितुप्रसुप्तस्यस्रस्तगात्रस्यभूतले ।।6.102.21।।

सोच्छवासंहृदयंवीरकम्पमानंमुहुर्मुहुः ।


तु you, प्रसुप्तस्य fallen thus, स्रस्तगात्रस्य from the limbs, सोच्छवासम् lying alive, मुहुर्मुहुः again and again, कम्पमानम् throbbing, हृदयम् heart, आख्याति is known

"From the movement of his limbs and throbbing of his heart again and again it is known that he is alive."
एवमुक्त्वामहाप्राज्ञःसुषेणोराघवंवचः ।।6.102.22।।

समीपस्थमुवाचेदंहनूमन्तंमहाकपिम् ।


महाप्राज्ञः very wise, सुषेणःSushena, राघवम्to Raghava, एवम् in that manner, वचःwords, उक्त्वा having spoken, समीपस्थम् nearby, महाकपिम् great Vanara, हनूमन्तम् Hanuman, इदम् thus, उवाच spoke

Very wise Sushena, having spoken like that to Raghava, spoke to the great Vanara, Hanuman nearby.
सौम्य शीघ्रमितोगत्वाशैलमौषधिपर्वतम् ।।6.102.23।।

पूर्वंतुकथितोयोऽसौवीर जाम्बवताशुभ: ।

दक्षिणेशिखरेजातामोषधिमानय ।।6.102.24।।

सवर्णकरणींनाम्नासावर्ण्यकरणींतथा ।

सञ्जीवकरणींवीरसन्धानीं च महौषधीम् ।।6.102.25।।

सञ्जीवनार्धंवीरस्यलक्ष्मणस्यमहात्मनः ।


सौम्य gentle, वीर heroic, यःअसौ that which, पूर्वम् earlier, जाम्बवता Jambavantha, तव your, कथितः spoken, औषथिपर्वतम् mountain of herbs, शैलम् peak, इतः now, शीघ्रम् quickly, गत्वाreach, दक्षिणेशिखरे southern peak, जाताम् having gone, नाम्ना by name, सवर्णकरणीम् Sarvakarani, महौषधिम् great herb, तथा so also, सावर्ण्यकरणीम् Savarnakarani, सञ्जीवकरणीम् Sanjeevakarani, सन्धानीं च Sandhanakarani, महौषधीम् great herbs, महात्मनः great soul, वीरस्यhero's, लक्ष्मणस्य Lakshmana's, सञ्जीवनार्धम् to make him alive, इह here, आनय come

"O gentle Hanumantha! Going to that mountain of herbs about which Jambavan had earlier spoken to you, get the herbs from the southern peak of that great mountain. To make Lakshmana the great soul alive quickly go and get Savarankarani, Sarvakarani so also Sanjeevakarani and Sandhanakarani and come."
इत्येवमुक्तोहनुमान्गत्वाचौषथिपर्वतम् ।।6.102.26।।

चिन्तामभ्यगमछ्रचीमानजानं स्ता महौषधीः ।


इत्येवम् in this manner, उक्तः having said, श्रीमान् glorious, हनुमान् Hanuman, औषधिपर्वतम् mountain of herbs, गत्वा having gone, ताः those, महौषदीः great herbs, अजानन् not able to recognize, चिन्ताम् thought over, अभ्यगतम् after having reached

Sushena having said so, glorious Hanuman set out to the mountain of herbs. Not able to recognise the herbs he thought over.
तस्यबुद्धि: समुत्पन्नामारुतेरमितौजसः ।।6.102.27।।

इदमेवगमिष्यामिगृहीत्वाशिखरंगिरेः ।


अमितौजसः highly brilliant, तस्यमारुतेः that Maruthi, बुद्धि: intellect, समुत्पना sprung, गिरेःon mountain, इदम् thus, शिखरमेव peak, गृहीत्वा seized, गमिष्यामिwill take

Highly brilliant Hanuman used his intellect and thought to seize the peak of the mountain on which herbs had sprung.
अस्मिंस्तुशिखरेजातामोषधिंतांसुखावहाम् ।।6.102.28।।

प्रतर्केणावगच्छामिसुषेणोह्यवमब्रवीत् ।


सुखावहाम् that which does good, ताम् to him, ओषधिम् herb, अस्मिन् in this, शिखरे peak, जाताम् growing, प्रतर्केण reasoning, अवगच्छामि is known, सुषेणः Sushena, एवम् in that way, अब्रवीत् हि has told

By reasoning it is known that the herb which is good for him is grown in this peak, for Sushena said so.
अगृह्ययदिगच्छामिविशल्यकरणीमहम् ।।6.102.29।।

कालात्ययेनदोषःस्याद्वैक्लब्यं च महद्भवेत् ।


अहम् I, विशल्यकरणीम् Visalakarani, अगृह्य taking, गच्छामियदि if I go, कालात्ययेन through passage of time, दोषः mistake, स्यात् again, महत् huge, वैक्लब्यं च perplexity, भवेत् will arise

'If I go without taking Visalakarani, through the passage of time huge mistakes will happen and perplexity will arise'.
इतिसञ्चिन्त्यहनूमान्गत्वाक्षिप्रंमहाबलः ।।6.102.30।।

आसाद्यपर्वतश्रेष्ठंप्रक्रम्यगिरेश्शिरः ।

फुल्लनानातरुगणंसमुत्पाट्यमहाबलः ।।6.102.31।।

गृहीत्वाहरिशार्दूलोहस्ताभ्यांसमतोलयत् ।


महाबलः mighty, हरिशार्दूलः tiger among Vanaras, हनुमान् Hanuman, इति thus, सञ्चिन्त्य thinking, क्षिप्रम् quickly, गत्वाgoing, पर्वतश्रेष्ठम् foremost of the mountains, आसाद्य reached, गिरेः mountain, शिखरं top, हस्ताभ्याम् with both hands, गृहीत्वाseized, त्रिःthrice, प्रकम्प्य shaking, फुल्लनानातरुगणम् with plants, flowers in bloom, समुत्पाट्य uprooted, महाबलः mighty, समतोलयत् balanced

Hanuman, the mighty among the Vanaras, thinking so quickly reached the foremost of the mountains, seized the mountain with both hands by shaking it thrice, uprooted the plants with flowers in bloom and balanced it with his hands.
सनीलमिवजीमूतंतोयपूर्णंनभस्तलात् ।।6.102.32।।

उत्पपातगृहीत्वातुहनूमान् शिखरंगिरेः ।


सःहनूमान् that Hanuman, तोयपूर्णम् filled with water, नीलम् bluish, जीमूतम् इव like the wind, गिरेःशिखरम् mountain peak, गृहीत्वा holding, नभस्तलात् from the earth surface, उत्पपात went into air

Like a dark cloud filled with water carried by wind, Hanuman held the mountain peak and went in the air from the surface of the earth.
समागम्यमहावेगःसंन्यस्यशिखरंगिरेः ।।6.102.33।।

विश्रम्यकिञ्चिद्धनुमान्सुषेणमिदमब्रवीत् ।


महावेगः at high speed, हनुमान् Hanuman, समागम्य came, गिरेः mountain, शिखरम्peak, संन्यस्यletting it down, किञ्चित् for a while, विश्रम् resting, सुषेणम् to Sushena, इदम् thus, अब्रवीत् spoke

Hanuman came at high speed with the mountain and letting it down and resting for a while spoke as follows.
ओषधीर्नावगच्छामिताअहंहरिपुङ्गव ।।6.102.34।।

तदिदंशिखरंकृत्स्नंगिरेस्तस्याहृतंमया ।


हरिपुङ्गव leader of Vanaras, अहम् I, ताः those, ओषधीःherbs, नावगच्छामि did not know, तस्यitsगिरेः mountain, तत् that, इदम् here, कृत्स्नम् dark, शिखरम् peak, मया by me, आहृतम् brought

"O leader of the Vanaras! I did not know those herbs. So, the mountain peak was brought here by me."
एवंकथयमानंतुप्रशस्यपवनात्मजम् ।।6.102.35।।

सुषेणोवानरश्रेष्ठोजग्राहोत्पाट्यचौषधीः ।


एवम् in that manner, कथयमानम् having revealed, पवनात्मजम् by the son of wind god, प्रशस्य applauding, वानरश्रेष्ठः leader of the Vanaras, सुषेणः Sushena, ओषधीः herb, उत्पाट्य uprooted, जग्राह took up

The son of wind god, having revealed it like that, Sushena the leader of the Vanaras uprooted the herb and took out.
विस्मितास्तुबभूवुस्तेसर्वेवानरपुङ्गवाः ।।6.102.36।।

दृष्टवाहनूमतःकर्मसुरैरपिसुदुष्करम् ।


सुरैरपि even for Suras, सुदुष्करम् very difficult, हनूमतः Hanuman, कर्म task, दृष्टवा seeing, सर्वे all, ते them, वानरपुङ्गवाः Vanara leaders, विस्मिताः amazed, बभूवुः were

It is a difficult task even for Suras. Seeing Hanuman doing it all the Vanara leaders were amazed.
ततःसङ्क्षोदयित्वातामोषधिंवानरोत्तमः ।।6.102.37।।

लक्ष्मणस्यददौनस्तस्सुषेणस्सुमहाद्युतिः ।


ततः thereafter, वानरोत्तमः foremost of Vanaras, सुमहाद्युतिः brilliant, सुषेणः Sushena, ताम् them, ओषधिम् herbs, सङ्क्षोदयित्वा crushed, लक्ष्मणस्य Lakshmana's, नस्तः nose, ददौ dropped

Thereafter, Sushena the foremost of the Vanaras, a brilliant one crushed the herbs and dropped the extract into Lakshmana's nose.
विशल्यस्ससमाघ्रायलक्ष्मणःपरवीरहा ।।6.102.38।।

विशल्योविरुजश्शीघ्रमुदतिष्ठन्महीतलात् ।


सशल्यः pained with piercing of that javelin, परवीरहा destroyer of enemies, सः he, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, समाघ्राय inhaling, विशल्यः devoid of javelin, विरुजः rid of pain, महीतलात् from the ground, शीघ्रम् quickly, उदतिष्ठत् got up

The destroyer of enemies, Lakshmana, who was pained by the javelin stuck in his body, on inhaling the herb, was devoid of javelin and rid of pain. He got up from the ground.
तमुत्थितंतुहरयोभूतलात्प्रेक्ष्यलक्ष्मणम् ।।6.102.39।।

साधुसावधितिसुप्रीतालक्ष्मणंप्रत्यपूजयन् ।


हरयः Vanaras, भूतलात् from the surface of the ground, उत्थितम् arisen, तंलक्ष्मणम् that Lakshmana, दृष्टवा seeing, सुप्रीताः very affectionately, साधुसाधुइति well done well done, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, प्रत्यपूजयन् in turn offered prayers

Seeing Lakshmana rise up from the surface of the ground, the Vanaras said Well done and offered prayers very affectionately.
एह्येहीत्यब्रवीद्रामोलक्ष्मणंपरवीरहा ।।6.102.40।।

सस्वजेस्नेहगाढं च बाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणः ।


परवीरहा destroyer of enemies, रामःRama, एहिएहि come, इति thus, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, अब्रवीत् spoke, बाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणः eyes filled with tears, स्नेहगाढं च overcome with affection, सस्वजेembraced him

Rama the destroyer of enemies seeing Lakshmana saying, 'come come', eyes filled with tears of joy affectionately embraced him and spoke.
ब्रवीच्छपरिष्वज्यसौमित्रिंराघवस्तदा ।।6.102.41।।

दिष्ट्यात्वांवीरपश्यामिमरणात्पुनरागतम् ।


तदा then, राघवः Raghava, सौमित्रिम् Saumithri, परिष्वज्य embracing, अब्रवीच्छ spoke this, वीर hero, दिष्ट्या luckily, मरणात्from death, पुनःagain, आगतम् come, त्वाम् you, पश्यामिI see

Embracing Saumithri, Rama spoke 'luckily you have recovered from death again and I am able to see you'.
न हिमेजीवितेनार्थस्सीतयाविजयनेवा ।।6.102.42।।

कोहिमेवदतेनार्धस्त्वयिपञ्चत्वमागते ।


त्वयि you, पञ्चत्वम् from the five elements, आगते not come out, मे to me, जीवितेन life, सीतया even Sita, विजयेनवा or victory, अर्थः meaning, न हि not there, मे to me, तेन your, कः what, अर्थः use, वद said

'Lakshmana! If you had not come out of death, what use is life to me? What is the use of Sita? What is the meaning of life' said Rama?
इत्येवंवदतस्तस्यराघवस्यमहात्मनः ।।6.102.43।।

भिन्नश्शिथिलयावाचालक्ष्मणोवाक्यमब्रवीत् ।


महात्मनः great soul, राघवस्य Raghava's, इत्येवम् in this manner, वदतः spoken, भिन्नः broken, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, शिथिलया irresolute, वाचा talk, वाक्यम् words, अब्रवीत् spoke

तांप्रतिज्ञांप्रतिज्ञायपुरासत्यपराक्रम ।।6.102.44।।

लघुःकश्चिदिवासत्त्वोनैवंवक्तुमिहार्हसि ।


सत्यपराक्रम of truthful valour, पुरा earlier, तांप्रतिज्ञाम् you having made a vow, प्रतिज्ञाय vow, असत्त्वः weak minded, लघुः lowly, कश्चिदिव spiritless, इह now, ए वम् this way, वक्तुम् speaking, न अर्हसि not appropriate

"You who are of truthful valour having made a vow, now speaking in this way, like a lowly person is not appropriate."
न हिप्रतिज्ञांकुर्वन्तिवितथांसत्यवादिनः ।।6.102.45।।

लक्षणंहिमहत्त्वस्यप्रतिज्ञापरिपालनम् ।


सत्यवादिनः those who speak truth, प्रतिज्ञाम् vows, वितथाम् futile, न कुर्वन्तिहि never make, प्रतिज्ञापरिपालनम् for fulfilment of vow, महत्त्वस्य greatness, लक्षणंहि mark of vow

'Those who speak truth never fail their vows futile for fulfilment of the vows is a mark of greatness for them'.
नैराश्यमुपगन्तुं च नालंतेमत्कृतेऽनघ ।।6.102.46।।

वधेनरावणस्याद्यप्रतिज्ञामनुपालय ।


अनघ sinless, मत्कृते on my account, नैराश्यम् to despair, उपगन्तुं च to give up, ते you, नालम्redeem, अद्य now, रावणस्य Ravana's, वधेन destruction, प्रतिज्ञाम् vow, अनुपालय fulfill

"O Sinless Rama! To be in despair on my account is not fair. Destroy Ravana and redeem your vow."
नजीवन्यास्यतेशत्रुस्तवबाणपथंगतः ।।6.102.47।।

नर्दतस्तीक्षणदंष्ट्रस्यसिंहस्येवमहागजः ।


तव your, बाणपथम् victim of your arrow, गतःnot alive, शत्रुःenemy, नर्धतःroaring, तीक्षणदंष्ट्रस्यpossessing sharp teeth, सिंहस्यlion's, महागजःइव like an elephant, जीवन् live, न यास्यते not possible

" A victim of your arrow can not be alive just as an elephant fallen into the clutch of a roaring lion with sharp teeth is not possible to live."
अहंतुवधमिच्छामिशीघ्रमस्यदुरात्मनः ।।6.102.48।।

यावदस्तं न यात्येषकृतकर्मादिवाकरः ।


एषः, दिवाकरः Sun, कृतकर्मा having completed his day, यावत् before, अस्तम् sets, न यातिbefore departing, अस्य his, दुरात्मनःevil minded, वधम् destruction, शीघ्रम् quickly, अहम् I, इच्छामि wish

"I wish to see the destruction of this evil minded one quickly before the sun completes the day and sets."
यदिवधमिच्छसिरावणस्यसङ्ख्येयदि च कृतांहितवेच्छसिप्रतिज्ञाम् ।

यदितवराजसुताभिलाषआर्यकुरु च वचोममशीघ्रमद्यवीर ।।6.102.49।।


वीर hero, आर्य noble one, सङ्ख्ये war, रावणस्य Ravana's, वधम् destruction, इच्छसियदि if you so desire, तव your, प्रतिज्ञाम् vow, कृताम् do the task, इच्छसियदि if you so, तव your, राजसुताभिलाषःयदि longing for the daughter of king, शीघ्रम् quickly, अद्य now, मम my, वचःwords, कुरु च do What I say

"O hero! Noble one! If you wish to kill Ravana in the war and fulfill your vow and longing for the daughter of Janaka you do quickly What I say."
