[Rama accuses Ravana for abducting Sita. Ravana gets confused with the rain of arrows from Rama. Seeing the situation of Ravana his charioteer takes him away from the battlefield.]

स तेनतुतदाक्रोधात्काकुत्स्थेनार्दितोरणे ।

रावणस्समरश्लाघिमहाक्रोधामुपागमत् ।।6.105.1।।


तदा then, तेनकाकुत्स्थेन by Kakuthsa, क्रोधात् in anger, रणे in the war, आर्दितःpained, समरश्लाघि: proud of skill in warfare, सःतुरावणःhe Ravana, महाक्रोधम् very angry, उपागमत् became

Ravana, who was proud of his skill in warfare, became very angry when he was pained by Kakuthsa's arrows.
स दीप्तनयनोरोषाच्चापमायाम्यवीर्यवान् ।

अभ्यर्दयत्सुसङ्कृद्धोराघवंपरमाहवे ।।6.105.2।।

बाणधारसहस्रैस्तैस्सतोयदइवाम्बरात् ।

राघवंरावणोबाणैस्तटकमिवपूरयन् ।।6.105.3।।


वीर्यवान् valiant one, वीरः hero, सः he, अमर्षात् bearing, दीप्तनयनः flaming eyes, राघवम् Raghava, सुसङ्क्रुद्ध: very angry, रोषात् furiously, चापम् bow, अपयाम्य fixing, अम्बरात् sky, सः he, तोयदःइव like water, तटाकम् इव like tank, बाणधारासहस्रैः thousands of arrows showered, राघवम् Raghava, पूरयन् fill, अभ्यर्दयत् covered

Valiant hero, Ravana, with his eyes flaming in anger, raising his bow, rained arrows at Sri Rama. He continued to rain thousands of arrows just as rain filled the tank, his arrows covered Raghava.
पूरितःशरजालेनधनुर्मुक्तेनसम्युगे ।

महागिरिरिवाकम्प्यःकाकुत्स्थो न प्रकम्पते ।।6.105.4।।


सम्युगे in the conflict, धनुर्मुक्तेन released from the bow, शरजालेन network of arrows, पूरितःcovered, काकुस्त्थ: Kakuthsa, अकम्प्यः not shaken, महागिरिरिव like a huge mountain, न प्रकम्पते not agitated

Sri Rama did not get agitated, and stood like a huge mountain, even though the network of arrows released from the bow of Ravana covered him in the conflict.
स शरैश्शरजालानिवारयन् समरेस्थितः ।

गभस्तीनिवसूर्यस्यप्रतिजग्राहवीर्यवान् ।।6.105.5।।


वीर्यवान् valiant, सः he, समरे in war, स्थितः stood, शरैः arrows, शरजालानि streams of arrows, वारयन् intercepting, सूर्यस्य sun's, गभस्तीनिव like rays, प्रतिजग्राह tolerated

Valiant Sri Rama stood intercepting them when streams of arrows covered him, and tolerated them like the rays of the Sun.
ततश्शरसहस्राणिक्षिप्रहस्तोनिशाचरः ।

निजघानोरसिक्रुद्धोराघवस्यमहात्मनः ।।6.105.6।।


ततः thereafter, क्षिप्रहस्तः quickhanded, निशाचरः night ranger, क्रुद्धः angry, महात्मनः great soul, राघवस्य Raghava's, उरसि chest, शरसहस्राणि thousands of arrows, निजघान struck

Thereafter the quickhanded angry night ranger struck into the chest of Raghava thousands of arrows.
स शोणितसमादिग्धस्समरेलक्ष्मणाग्रजः ।

दृष्टःफुल्लइवारण्येसुमहान् किंशुकद्रुमः ।।6.105.7।।


समरे in the conflict, शोणितसमादिग्धः covered with blood all over, लक्ष्मणाग्रजः Lakshmana's elder brother, अरण्ये in the forest, फुल्लः in bloom, सुमहान् huge, किंशुकद्रुमः Kimsuka tree, दृष्टः looked

In that conflict Lakshmana's elder brother looked like a huge Kimsuka tree in bloom in the forest body being covered with blood all over.
शराभिघातसम्रब्दःसोऽभिजग्राहसायकान् ।

काकुत्स्थ: सुमहातेजायुगान्तादित्यतेजसः ।।6.105.8।।


शराभिघातसम्रब्दः angered by the impact of arrows, सुमहातेजाः highly energetic, सःकाकुत्स्थ: that Kakuthsa, युगान्तादित्यतेजसः like the sun blazing at the end of dissolution of the universe, सायकान् shafts, अभिजग्राह took up

Endowed with extraordinary energy, Kakuthsa, angered by the impact of arrows resembled the Sun at the end of universal dissolution, took up arrows.
ततोऽन्योन्यंसुसम्रब्धौतावुभौरामरावणौ ।

शरान्धकारेसमरेनोपलक्ष्यतांतदा ।।6.105.9।।


ततः then, सुसम्रब्धौ speedily releasing arrows, तौ those, उभौ both, रामरावणौ Rama and Ravana, तदा then, शरान्धकारे darkened by the arrows, समरे in the battlefield, अन्योन्यम् one another, नोपलक्ष्यताम् not able to see

Then with both Rama and Ravana speedily releasing (hail of) arrows on one another, the battlefield was darkened by arrows, and they were not able to see each other.
ततःक्रोधसमाविष्टोरामोदशरथात्मजः ।

उवाचरावणंवीरःप्रहस्यपरुषंवचः ।।6.105.10।।


ततः then, दशरथात्मजः Dasharatha's son, वीरः heroic, रामः Rama, क्रोधसमाविष्टः overcome by anger, प्रहस्य laughing, रावणम् at Ravana, परुषम् harsh, वचः words, उवाच spoke

Then Rama, the heroic son of Dasharatha, overcome by anger, laughing at Ravana, spoke these words.
ममभार्याजनस्थानादज्ञानाद्राक्षसाधम ।

हृतातेविवशायस्मात्तस्मात्त्वंनासिवीर्यवान् ।।6.105.11।।


राक्षसाधम lowly Rakshasa, विवशा helpless, ममभार्या my wife, यस्मात् therefore, अज्ञानात् ignorantly, ते you, हृता abducted, तस्मात् therefore, त्वम् you, वीर्यवन् valiant, नासि not

"Lowly Rakshasa! My wife was abducted by you ignorantly when she was helpless. Therefore, you are not valiant."
मयाविरहितांदीनांवर्तमानांमहावने ।

वैदेहींप्रसभंहृत्वाशूरोऽहमितिमन्यसे ।।6.105.12।।


मया from me, विरहिताम् separated, दीनाम् desperate, महावने in the great forest, वर्तमानाम् living, वैदेहीम् Vaidehi, प्रसभम् forcibly, हृत्वा abducted, अहम् I, शूरः hero, इति thus, मन्यसे you think

"Having abducted Vaidehi living in the forest by force, when she was desperate and separated from me, do you think that you are a hero?
स्त्रीषुशूरविनाथासुपरदाराभिमर्शक ।

कृत्वाकापुरुषंकर्मशूरोऽहमितिमन्यसे ।।6.105.13।।


विनाथासु timid fellow, स्त्रीषु women, शूर hero, परदाराभिमर्शक laying hands on other woman, कापुरुषम् such men, कर्म action, कृत्वा having done, अहम् I, शूरःhero, इति thus, मन्यसे thinking

"Timid fellow! You having laid hands on another woman think you are a hero? You, who have done such an action, think that you are a hero?"
भिन्नमर्यादनिर्लज्ज चारित्रेष्वनवस्थित ।

दर्पान्मृत्युमुपादायशूरोऽहमितिमन्यसे ।।6.105.14।।


भिन्नमर्याद transgressed morality, निर्लज्ज shameless, चारित्रे traditional practice, अनवस्थित dissolute, दर्पात् pride, मृत्युम् death, उपादाय seeking, अहम् I, शूरः heroic, इति thus, मन्यसे think

"O shameless one! You have transgressed morality and traditional practice. You are dissolute and by your pride seeking death. You think that you are a hero!"
शूरेणधनदभ्रात्राबलैःसमुदितेन च ।

श्लाघनीयंमहत्कर्मयशस्यं च कृतंत्वया ।।6.105.15।।


शूरेण hero, धनदभ्रात्रा brother of Kubera, बलैः rich in might, समुदितेन च and risen up, त्वया by you, श्लाघनीयम् laudable, यशस्यं च attained fame, महत् great, कर्म action, कृतम् performed

"By laudable great action performed by you (of abducting Sita and your penance) you have attained fame. You are a heroic brother of Kubera, rich in might."
उत्सेकानाभिपन्नस्यगर्हितस्याहितस्य च ।

कर्मणःप्राप्नुहीदानांतस्याद्यसुमहत्फलम् ।।6.105.16।।


उत्सेकेन out of pride, अभिपन्नस्य overpowered, गर्हितस्य vanity, अहितस्य च hurtful, तस्यकर्मणः your action, सुमहत् great, फलम् result, अद्य today, इदानीम् this way, प्राप्नुहि attained

"You will attain the great result of your hurtful action, overpowered by pride and vanity today."
शूरोऽहमितिचात्मानमवगच्छसिदुर्मते ।

नैवलज्जास्तितेसीतांचौरवद्वृपकर्षतः ।।6.105.17।।


दुर्मते evil minded, आत्मानम् yourself, अहम् I, शूरःhero, इति thus, अवगच्छसि praise, चौरवत् like a thief, सीताम् Sita, व्यपकर्षतः abducting, ते to you, लज्जा shame, नैवअस्ति not stand

"O Evil minded fellow! You boast yourself as a hero, while you abducted Sita like a thief. Shame did not stand in your way."
यदिमत्सन्निधौसीताधर्षितास्यात्त्वयाबलात् ।

भ्रातरंतुखरंपश्येस्तदामत्सायकैर्हतः ।।6.105.18।।


सीता Sita, त्वया by you, मत्सन्निधौ my presence, बलात् forcibly, धर्षिता taken, स्याद्यदि been seen, तदा then, मत्सायकैः by my arrows, हतः killed, भ्रातरम् brother, खरम् Khara, पश्येः seen

"If Sita had been seen by me forcibly taken by you in my presence, then you would have been killed by my arrows and seen your brother Khara."
दिष्ट्यासिममदुष्टात्मश्चक्षुर्विषयमागतः ।

अद्यत्वांसायकैस्तीक्ष्णैर्नयामियमसादनम् ।।6.105.19।।


दुष्टात्मन् selfish, दिष्ट्या seen now, मम by me, चक्षुर्विषयम् in my sight, आगतःअसि have come now, अद्य today, त्वाम् you, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, सायकैः by arrows, यमसादनम् abode of Yama, नयामि reach

"O selfish Ravana! Today you have come in my sight by good fortune. I shall send you to the abode of Yama with my arrows."
अद्यतेमच्छरैश्चिन्नंशिरोज्वलितकुण्डलम् ।

क्रव्यादाव्यपकर्षन्तुविकीर्णंरणपांसुषु ।।6.105.20।।


अद्य now, मच्छरैः by my shafts, छिन्नम् severed, रणपांसुषु in the battlefield, विकीर्णम् covered with dust, ज्वलितकुण्डलम् shining earrings, तेशिरः your head, क्रन्यादाः carnivorous animals, व्यपकर्षन्तु be dragged

"Now, let your head severed by my shafts lying in dust in the battlefield with the shining earrings be dragged by the carnivorous animals."
निपत्योरसिगृध्रास्तेक्षितौक्षिप्तस्यरावण ।

पिबन्तुरुधिरंतर्षाद्बाणशल्यान्तरोत्थितम् ।।6.105.21।।


रावण Ravana, क्षितौ caused to destroy, क्षिप्तस्य scattered, ते your, उरसि chest, निपत्य fallen, गृध्राः vultures, बाणशल्यान्तरोत्थितम् by the piercing of the heads of my arrows, रुधिरम् blood, पिबन्तु drink

"Ravana! After your body is caused to destroy and scattered on the ground, let the vultures drink the blood oozing from your chest pierced by the heads of my arrows."
अद्यमद्बाणभिन्नस्यगतासोःपतितस्यते ।

कर्षन्त्वन्त्राणिपतगागरुत्मन्तइवोरगान् ।।6.105.22।।


अद्य now, मद्बाणभिन्नस्य by my arrows splitting, गतासोः ceased of life, पतितस्य fallen, ते your, अन्त्राणि intestines, पतगाः birds, गरुत्मन्तः eagles, उरगानिव like snakes, कर्षन्तु dragging

"Let the birds tear your intestines as eagles would tear off snakes, now when your body is split and fallen, split by my arrows and ceased of life."
इत्येवं स वदन्वीरोरामश्शत्रुनिबर्हणः ।

राक्षसेन्द्रंसमीपस्थंशरवर्षैरवाकिरत् ।।6.105.23।।


वीरः hero, शत्रुनिबर्हणः exterminator of enemies, रामः Rama, इत्येवम् in this way, वदन् speaking, समीपस्थम् nearby, राक्षसेन्द्रम् king of Rakshasas, शरवर्षैः rained arrows, अवाकिरत् covered

Speaking in this way to Ravana who was nearby, Rama the exterminator of enemies rained showers of arrows and covered.
बभूवद्विगुणंवीर्यंबलंहर्षश्चसंयुगे ।

रामस्यास्त्रबलंचैवशत्रोर्निधनकाङ्क्षिणः ।।6.105.24।।

प्रादुर्भभूवुरस्त्राणिसर्वाणिविदितात्मनः ।

प्रहर्षाच्चमहातेजाश्शीघ्रहस्ततरोऽभवत् ।।6.105.25।।


विदितात्मनः rich in selfknowledge, सर्वाणि all, अस्त्राणि missiles, प्रादुर्भभूवुः appeared before him, महातेजाः excessive energy, प्रहर्षात् joy, शीघ्रहस्ततरः skillful with hands अभूत् became

All missiles appeared before Rama because of his richness in selfknowledge. In his excessive energy and joy the prince became more skillful with his hands.
शुभान्येतानिचिह्नानिविज्ञायात्मगतानिसः ।

भूयएवार्दयद्रामोरावणंराक्षसान्तकृत् ।।6.105.26।।


राक्षसान्तकृत् one who can put an end to Rakshasas, सःरामः that Rama, आत्मगतानि his own past, शुभानि auspicious, एतानि all these, चिह्नानि signs, विज्ञाय knowing, रावणम् Ravana, भूयःएव more vehemently, अर्दयत् strike

Rama, who can put an end to Rakshasas, knower of his own self having experienced auspicious signs, began to strike at Ravana more vehemently.
हरीणांचाश्मनिकरैश्शरवर्षाच्चराघवात् ।

हन्यमानोदशग्रीवोविघूर्णहृदयोऽभवत् ।।6.105.27।।


हरीणाम् Vanaras, अश्मनिकरैः stones from their hands, राघवात् at Raghava, शरवर्षाच्च rain of shafts, हन्यमानः pained, दशग्रीवः ten headed, विघूर्णहृदयः bewildered, अभवत् became

By the stones thrown by the Vanaras and rain of shafts from Raghava, the ten headed Ravana was pained and was bewildered.
यदा च शस्त्रंनारेभे न चकर्षशरासनम् ।

नास्यप्रत्यकरोवदीर्यंविक्लबेनान्तरात्मना ।।6.105.28।।


यदा like that, शस्त्रम् missiles, नारेभे not started, शरासनम् arrows, न चकर्ष not able to stretch bow, विक्लबेन confused, अन्तरात्मना mentally, अस्य his, वीर्यम् valiance, न प्रत्यकरोत् not oppose

Being confused mentally, Ravana did not start his arrows, nor stretch his bow, nor was able to use missiles and was not able to oppose Rama's valour.
क्षिप्ताःश्चाशुशरास्तेनशस्त्राणिविविधानि च ।

मरणार्थायवर्तन्तेमृत्युकालोऽभ्यवर्तत ।।6.105.29।।

सूतस्तुरथनेतास्यतदवस्थंनिरीक्ष्यतम् ।

शनैर्युद्धासम्भ्रान्तोरथंतस्यापवाहयत् ।।6.105.30।।


अस्य his, रथनेता charioteer, सूतस्तु Sutha, तदवस्थम् that condition, तम् him, निरीक्ष्य observing, असम्भ्रान्तः quietly, शनैः slowly, तस्य his, रथम् chariot, युद्धात् from the battlefield, अपवाहयत् withdrew

Observing his (Ravana's) condition, the charioteer quietly, slowly withdrew his chariot from the battlefield.
रथं च तस्याथजवेनसाथिर्निवार्यभीमंजलदस्वनंतदा ।

जगामभीत्यासमरान्महीपतिंनिरस्तवीर्यंपतितंसमीक्ष्य ।।6.105.31।।


अथ and then, सारथिः charioteer, महीपतिम् king's, निरस्तवीर्यम् lost his valiance, पतितम् fallen, समीक्ष्य perceiving, तदा then, तस्य his, जलदस्वनम् like a cloud, भीमम् terrible, रथम् chariot, जवेन quickly, निवार्य stopped, भीत्या in fear, समरात् from war, जगाम went

Then the charioteer perceiving that the king has lost his valiance and fallen, went quickly from the battlefield, in fear, as the chariot was rumbling like a terrible cloud.

This is the end of the hundred and fifth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
