[Tumultuous war takes place between Rama and Ravana for seven days and nights both using powerful arrows, maces, and mallets.]

तौतथायुध्यमानौतुसमरेरामरावणौ ।

ददृशुस्सर्वभूतानिविस्मितेनान्तरात्मना ।।6.110.1।।


समरे in war, तथा thus, युध्यमनौ fighting, रामरावणौ Rama and Ravana, सर्वभूतानि all beings, विस्मितेन with astonishment, अन्तरात्मना in mind, ददृशुः observed

As Rama and Ravana were thus fighting in war, all beings watched with astonishment in mind.
अर्धयन्तौतुसमरेतयोस्तौस्यन्दनोत्तमौ ।

परस्परमभिक्रुद्धौपरस्परमभिद्रुतौ ।।6.110.2।।


तयोः both, स्यन्दनोत्तमौ both moving quickly, परस्परम् one another, अर्धयन्तौ seeking to gain, अभिक्रुद्धौ very furious, परस्परम् one another, अभिद्रुतौ persevering

Both of them were moving quickly seeking to gain one another, very furiously persevering.
परस्परवधेयुक्तौघोररूपौबभूवतुः ।

मण्डलानि च वीधीश्चगतप्रत्यागतानि च ।।6.110.3।।

दर्शयन्तौबहुविधांसूतसामर्थ्यजांगतिम् ।


परस्परवधे striking one another, युक्तौ diligently, मण्डलानि in circles, वीधीश्च feats, गतप्रत्यागतानि forwarding and receding, सूतसामर्थ्यजाम् displaying charioteers skills, बभूवतुः went on

Both striking one another diligently, going in circles moving forward and backward displaying feats, went on.
अर्धयन्रावणंरामोराघवंचापिरावणः ।।6.110.4।।

गतिवेगंसमापन्नौप्रतिवेगप्रवर्तने ।


रावणम् Ravana, अर्धयन् hurting, रामः Rama, राघवम् Raghava, रावणःचापि hurting Ravana, प्रतिवेगप्रवर्तने quickness in retaliation, गतिवेगम् speed of arrows, समापन्नौ happened

Ravana hurting Rama and vice versa displaying quickness in retaliation and speed of arrows, the fight happened.
क्षिपतोश्शरजालानितयोस्तौस्यन्दनोत्तमौ ।।6.110.5।।

चेरतुस्सम्युगमहीं सासारौ जलदाविव ।


शरजालानि network of arrows, क्षिपतोः released, तयोः by both, स्यन्दनोत्तमौ excellent warriors, सासारौ in the battlefield, जलदौइव like water streams, संयुगमहीम् like two clouds, चेरतुः both chariots

The network of arrows released by both of them from the chariots were like water streams from two clouds in the battlefield
दर्शयित्वातदातौतुगतिंबहुविधांरणे ।।6.110.6।।

परस्परस्याभिमुखौपुनरेव च तस्थतुः ।


तदा then, तौ those two, रणे in battlefield, बहुविधाम् many ways, गतिम् movements, दर्शयित्वा having seen, पुनरेव once again, परस्परस्य one another, अभिमुखौ facing each other, तस्थतुः stood

Then those two, having seen many movements, once again stood facing each other in the battlefield.
धुरंधुरेणरथयोर्वक्त्रंवक्त्रेणवाजिनाम् ।।6.110.7।।

पताकाश्चपताकाभिस्समीयुस्स्थितयोस्तदा ।


तदा then, स्थितयोः standing, रथयोः chariots, धुरम् axle, धुरेण with axle, वाजिनाम् horses, वक्त्रम् standard, वक्त्रेण with face, पताकाः flags, पताकाभिः च with flag, समीयुः stood together

The two chariots stood facing each other on the battlefield once more, the axle of one chariot facing the axle of another chariot, the flag of one with another flag, the standard with another standard, the face of one horse with the face of another horse stood and it seemed as though they were together.
रावणस्यततोरामोधनुर्मुस्तैश्शितैश्शरैः ।।6.110.8।।

चतुर्भिश्चतुरोदीप्तान्हयान्प्रत्यपसर्पयत् ।


ततः there upon, रामः Rama, धनुर्मुस्तै: stretching the bow, चतुर्भिःfour, शितैःsharp, शरैः arrows, रावणस्य at Ravana, दीप्तान् glowing, चतुरः four, हयान् horses, प्रत्यसर्पयत् drove back

Thereupon, Rama, stretching the bow, released four sharp glowing arrows at Ravana's four horses and drove them back.
सक्रोधवशमापन्नोहयानामपसर्पणे ।।6.110.9।।

मुमोचनिशितान्बाणान्राघवायदशाननः ।


हयानाम् the horses, अपसर्पणे retreating, क्रोधवशम् prey to anger, आपन्नःafflicted, दशाननःtenheaded one, राघवाय on Raghava, निशितान् pointed, बाणान् arrows, मुमोच released

Fallen prey to anger for retreating the horses, the ten headed Ravana released pointed arrows on Raghava.
सोतिविद्धोबलवतादशग्रीवेणराघवः ।।6.110.10।।

जगाम न विकारं च न चापिव्यथितोऽभवत् ।


बलवता mighty, दशग्रीवेण Ravana, अतिविद्धः wounded very much, राघवःRaghava, विकारम् agitated, न जगाम nor disquieted, व्यथितः च suffering, न अभवत् not experienced

Raghava, though wounded by the mighty Ravana's arrows, did notexperience suffering or agitation, nor disquiet.
चिक्षेप च पुनर्भाणान्वज्रपातसमस्वनान् ।।6.110.11।।

सारथिंवज्रहस्तस्यसमुद्दिश्यदशाननः ।


दशाननः Ten headed, वज्रहस्तस्य with thunderbolt like hands, सारथिम् charioteer, उद्दिश्य aimed, पुनःagain, वज्रपातसमस्वनान् equal to thunder, बाणान् arrow, चिक्षेप struck

The ten headed Ravana with his thunderbolt like hands hurled arrows and struck the charioteer of Rama, making sounds like thunder.
मातलेस्तुमहावेगाश्शरीरेपतिताश्शराः ।।6.110.12।।

न सूक्ष्ममपिसम्मोहंव्यथांवाप्रददुर्युधि ।


मातलेःMatali, शरीरे body, पतिताः fallen, महावेगाः at great speed, शराः arrows, सुसूक्ष्ममपि even slight, सम्बोहम् perturbance, व्यथांवा or suffering, न प्रददुः not felt

Even though the arrows fell on Matali's body at great speed, he did not feel perturbed or experience even slight suffering.
तयाधर्षणयाक्रुद्धोमातलेर्नतथात्मनः ।।6.110.13।।

चकारशरजालेनराघवोविमुखंरिपुम् ।


राघवः Raghava, मातलेः Matali, तयाधर्षणया like that torment, क्रुद्धः furious, आत्मनः himself, तथा in that way, न not, शरजालेन by the network of arrows, रिपुम् enemy, विमुखम् diverted, चकार made

Rama was furious for tormenting Matali like that, but not for hurting him and in fury discharged a network of arrows on him (Ravana) and diverted him.
विंशतिंत्रिंशतिंषष्टिंशतशोऽथसहस्रशः ।।6.110.14।।

मुमोचराघवोवीरस्सायकान्स्यन्दनेरिपोः ।


वीर hero, राघवःRaghava, रिपोः enemy, स्यन्दने chest, विंशतिम् twenty, त्रिंशतिम् thirty, षष्टिम् sixty, अथ and then, शतशः hundreds, सहस्रशः thousands, सायकान् shafts, मुमोच loosed at him

Heroic Raghava thereafter, let loose shafts in twenties, thirties, sixties, hundreds, and thousands at Ravana's chest.
रावणोऽपिततःक्रुद्धोरथस्थराक्षसेश्वरः ।।6.110.15।।

गदामुसलवर्षेणरामंप्रत्यर्दयद्रणे ।


ततः then, क्रुद्धः enraged, राक्षसेश्वरः Rakshasa king, रावणोऽपि Ravana also, रणे in the battle, रामम् Rama, गदामुसलवर्षेण with mace and mallets, प्रत्यर्थयत् in return

Enraged Ravana, the king of Rakshasas, also in return, retaliated with maces and mallets.
तत्प्रवृतंपुनर्युद्धंतुमुलंरोमहर्षणम् ।।6.110.16।।

गदानांमुसलानां च परिघाणांचनिस्स्वनैः ।

शराणांपुङ्खवातैश्चक्षुभितास्सप्तसागराः ।।6.110.17।।


तत् then, प्रवृतं ensued, पुनः again, युद्धम् war, तुमुलम् tumultuous, रोमहर्षणम् caused hair to stand, गदानाम् with maces, मुसलानां च and mallets, परिघाणां च iron bars, निःस्वनैः by the resound of speed, सप्तसागराः the seven seas, क्षुभिताः agitated

Once again ensued a tumultuous war fought with maces, mallets, and iron bars, caused hair to stand and the resound of the speed of weapons caused agitation in the seven seas.
क्षुब्दानांसागराणां च पातालतलवासिनः ।

व्यथितादानवाःसर्वेपन्नगाश्चसहस्रशः ।।6.110.18।।


क्षुब्दानाम् sounds, सागराणाम् in the seas, पातालतलवासिनः inhabiting the subterranean region, सर्वे all, दानवाःDanavas, सहस्रशःthousands, पन्नगाश्च snakes, व्यथिताः distressed

By the agitation and sounds in the seas, all the Danavas and snakes in thousands inhabiting the seas got distressed.
चकम्पेमेदिनीकृत्स्नासशैलवनकानना ।

भास्करोनिष्प्रभश्चासीन्नवनौचापिमारुतः ।।6.110.19।।


सशैलवनकानना with mountains, gardens, forests, कृत्स्ना dark, मेदिनी earth, चकम्पे shook, भास्करश्च even the sun, निष्प्रभः lost radiance, आसीत् not move, मारुतश्चापि even the wind, न ववौ not blow

The entire globe with its mountains, gardens and forests shook, the Sun lost his radiance, even the wind did not blow.
ततोदेवास्सगन्धर्वास्सिद्धाश्चपरमर्षयः ।

चिन्तामापेदिरेसर्वेसकिन्नरमहोरगाः ।।6.110.20।।


ततः then, सगन्धर्वाः the Gandharvas, देवाःDevas, सिद्धाश्च Siddhas, परमर्षयः great sages, सकिन्नरमहोरगाः Kinneras, and huge serpents, सर्वे all, चिन्ताम् anxiety, अपेदिरे became

Thereafter, the Gandharvas, Devas, Siddhas, great sages, Kinneras and huge serpents all of them became anxious.
स्वस्तिगोब्राह्मणेभ्योऽस्तुलोकास्तिष्ठन्तुशाश्वताः ।

जयतांराघयसङ्ख्येरावणंराक्षसेश्वरम् ।।6.110.21।।

एवंजपन्तोऽपश्यंस्तेदेवास्सर्षिगणास्तदा ।

रामरावणयोर्युद्धंसुघोरंरोमहर्षणम् ।।6.110.22।।


तदा then, सर्षिगणाः hosts of sages, ते the, देवाः Devas, गोब्राह्मणेभ्यः cows, brahmanas, स्वस्ति be auspicious, अस्तु be, लोकाः worlds, शाश्वताः ever, तिष्ठन्तु endure, राघवः Raghava, संख्ये large numbers, राक्षसेश्वरम् Rakshasa king, रावणम् Ravana, जयताम् conquer, एवम् in that way, जपन्तः chanted, घोरम् terrific, रोमहर्षणम् caused hair to stand, रामरावणयोः both Rama and Ravana, युद्धम् war, अपश्यन् witnessed

"May the hosts of sages, Devas, cows and brahmanas be auspicious. May all the worlds endure forever. May Rama conquer Ravana, the Rakshasa king," chanting in that manner all witnessed the terrific war between Rama and Ravana that caused hair to stand.
गन्धर्वाप्सरसांसङ्घादृष्टवायुद्धमनूपमम् ।

गगनंगगनाकारंसागरस्सागरोपमः ।।6.110.23।।

रामरावणयोर्युद्धंरामरावणयोरिव ।

एवंब्रुवन्तोददृशुस्तद्युद्धंरामरावणम् ।।6.110.24।।


गन्धर्वाप्सरसाम् Gandharvas and Apsaras, सङ्घाः combination, अनूपमम् unimaginable, युद्धम् war, दृष्टवा watching, गगनम् sky, गगनाकारम् sky is its own analogue, सागरःsea, गरोपमः sea is its own compeer, रामरावणयोः both Rama and Ravana, युद्धम् fight, रामरावणयोः likened Rama and Ravana's struggle, युद्धम् combat, रामरावणयोरिव both Rama and Ravana, एवम् in that manner, ब्रुवन्तः said, रामरावणम् Rama and Ravana, तत् that, युद्धम् war, ददृशुः looked

Gandharvas and Apsaras watching the combination of Rama and Ravana fighting an unimaginable war said that sky is its own analogue for sky, sea is its own analogue to sea, in the same way is the struggle between Rama and Ravana is unique like Rama and Ravana's struggle and looked at the combat.
ततःक्रोधान्महाबासूरघूणांकीर्तिवर्धनः ।

सन्धायधनुषारामश्शरमाशीविषोपमम् ।।6.110.25।।

रावणस्यशिरोऽच्छिन्दच्छ्रीमज्ज्वलितकुण्डलम् ।

तछचिरःपतितंभूमौदृष्टंइलोकैस्त्रिभिस्तदा ।।6.110.26।।


ततः then, महाबहुः mighty armed, रघूणाम् Raghava, कीर्तिवर्धनः enhancer of glory, रामः Rama, क्रोधात् in wrath, धनुषा bow, आशिविषोपमम् like a venomous snake, शरम् arrows, सन्धाय fitting, श्रीम् graced, ज्वलितकुण्डलम् shining earrings, रावणस्यशिरः Ravana's head, अच्छिन्दत् cut off, तदा then, भूमौ on earth surface, पतितम् fallen, तत् that, शिरः head, त्रिभिः three, लोकैः in the world, दृष्टम् witnessed

Then the mighty armed Raghava, enhancer of glory, in wrath like a venomous snake, fitting the bow with arrows cut off the head of Ravana graced with shining earrings. Then the three worlds witnessed the head cut off and fallen on the earth surface.
तस्यैवसदृशंचान्यद्रावणस्योत्थितंशिरः ।

तत्क्षिप्तंक्षिप्रहस्तेनरामेणक्षिप्रकारिणा ।।6.110.27।।


तस्यैव similar, सदृशम् looking similar, अन्यत् another, रावणस्य Ravana's, शिरः head, उत्थितम् arose, तत् that, क्षिप्रहस्तेन cut off by hand, क्षिप्रकारिणा quick with hand, रामेण by Rama, क्षिप्तम् cut off

A similar looking head arose on Ravana's head. Rama, endowed with a quick hand, cut off by his hand the other head.
द्वितीयंरावणशिरश्छिन्नंसम्यतिसायकैः ।

छिन्नमात्रं च तच्चीर्षंपुनरेवप्रदृश्यते ।।6.110.28।।


सम्यति before that, द्वितीयम् second, रावणशिरः Ravana's head, सायकैः by arrows, छिन्नम् cut off, तत् that, शीर्षम् head, छिन्नमात्रम् as he cut, पुनरेव again, दृश्यते appeared

Before cutting that second head of Ravana again another head appeared.
तदप्यशनिसङ्काशैश्छिन्नंरामस्यसायकैः ।

एवमेवशतंछिन्नंशिरसांतुल्यवर्चसाम् ।।6.110.29।।


तदपि in that way, अशनिसङ्काशैः like thunderbolt of Indra, रामसायकैःRama's arrows, छिन्नम् cut off, एवमेव in that place, तुल्यवर्चसाम् equally charming, शिरसाम् head, शतम् hundred, छिन्नम् struck off

Rama cut off the afore said head with Indra's thunderbolt like arrows. In that way equally charming a hundred heads were struck off.
न चैवरावणस्यान्तोदृश्यतेजीवितक्षये ।

ततस्सर्वास्त्रविद्वीरःकौसल्यानन्दवर्धनः ।।6.110.30।।

मार्गणैर्बहुभिर्युक्तश्चिन्तयामासराघवः ।


रावणस्य Ravana's, जीवितक्षये life not ceased, अन्तः end, न चैवदृश्यते not able to see, ततः then, सर्वास्त्रवित् knower of all knowledge, वीरः valiant, कौसल्यानन्दवर्धनः enhancer of Kausalya's joy, बहुभिः many, मार्गणैः ways, युक्तः well versed, राघवःRaghava, चिन्तयामास started thinking

Rama, knower of all shastras, valiant, enhancer of Kausalya's joy, well versed in the use of weapons, was not able to see the end of Ravana's life. He started thinking.
मारीचोनिहतोयैस्तुखरोयैस्तुसदूषणः ।।6.110.31।।

क्रौञ्चावनेविराधस्तुकबन्धोदण्डकेवने ।

यैस्सालागिरयोभग्नावाली च क्षुभितोऽम्बुधिः ।।6.110.32।।

त इमेसायकास्सर्वेयुद्धेप्रात्ययिकामम
किनुतत्कारणंयेनरावणेमन्दतेजसः ।।6.110.33।।


यैः by which, मारीचः Maricha, निहतः killed, यैः he, सदूषणः Dushana, खरः Khara, क्रौञ्चानने in Krauncha, कबन्धः Kabhanda, दण्डकानने in Dandaka forest, विराधःतु Virada also, यैः by which, सालाःSala, गिरयः mountain, भग्नाः broken, वाली च Vali also, अम्बुधिः ocean, क्षुभितः agitation, वाली च and Vali, अम्बुधिः ocean, क्षुभितः agitated, ते they, मेसायकाः by my arrows, सर्वे all, मम my, युद्धे war, प्रात्ययिकाः wasted, येन by which, रावणे Ravana, मन्दतेजसः less brilliant, तत् that, कारणम् reason, किंनु What is it

'Earlier, by my arrows, Maricha was killed, Dushana and Khara were killed, Kabhanda was killed in Krauncha forest, Virada was killed in Dandaka forest. By which arrows Sala trees were cut off, mountain was broken, ocean was agitated, and Vali was killed, are wasted with Ravana, who is less brilliant in war. What is the reason?'
इतिचिन्तापरश्चासीदप्रमत्तश्चसम्युगे ।

ववर्षशरवर्षाणीराघवोरावणोरसि ।।6.110.34।।


राघवः Raghava, सम्युगे in that duel, इति thus, चिन्तापरः started thinking, अप्रमत्तश्च very alert, आसीत् not move, रावणोरसि Ravana's chest, शरवर्षाणि rain of arrows, ववर्ष rained

Even though Raghava was thinking so, yet remaining alert in the duel, rained arrows on Ravana's chest.
रावणोऽपिततःक्रुद्धोरथस्थोराक्षसेश्वरः ।

गदामुसलवर्षेणरामंप्रत्यर्दयद्रणे ।।6.110.35।।


वीरः valiant, राघवः Raghava, रिपोः enemy, स्यन्दने in chariot, विंशतिम् seated, त्रिंशतिम् three hundred, षष्टिम् sixties, अथ and, शतशः hundreds, सहस्रशः thousands, सायकान् arrows, मुमोच released

Valiant enemy of Raghava also seated in the chariot, rained three hundred, sixties, hundreds, and thousands of arrows.
तत्प्रवृत्तंमहद्युद्धंतुमुलंरोमहर्षणम् ।

अन्तरिक्षे च भूमौ च पुनश्चगिरिमूर्धनि ।।6.110.36।।


तुमुलम् fierce, रोमहर्षणम् horipulating, महत् great, तत् that, युद्धम् war, अन्तरिक्षे च even in the sky, भूमौ च also on earth, पुनश्च again, गिरिमूर्धनि on top of mountain, प्रवृत्तम् commenced again

Great war commenced in the sky, as well as on the earth, and on top of mountain again, which was horipulating,
देवदानवयक्षाणांपिशाचोरगरक्षसाम् ।

पश्यतांतन्महायुद्धंसप्तरात्रमवर्तत ।।6.110.37।।


देवदानवयक्षाणाम् Devas, Danavas, Yakshas, पिशाचोरगरक्षसाम् demons, Nagas, and Rakshasas, पश्यताम् watched, तत् that, महायुद्धम् great war, सप्तरात्रम् seven nights and days, अवर्तत continued

The Devas, Danavas, Yakshasas also the fiends Demon, Nagas and Rakshasas watched the great war that continued for seven days and nights.
नैव रात्रिं न दिवसंमुहूर्तं न च क्षणम् ।

रामरावणयोर्युद्धंविराममुपगच्छति ।।6.110.38।।


रामरावणयोः Rama and Ravana, युद्धम् fight, रात्रिम् night, विरामम् ceased, न उपगच्छति started, दिवसम् all day, न not, मुहूर्तम् a moment, न not, क्षणं च not a second, न not

The fight between Rama and Ravana continued all day and night, without stopping for a moment.
दशरथसुतराक्षसेन्द्रयोर्जयमनवेक्ष्यरणे स राघवस्य ।

सुरवररथसारथिर्महात्मारणरतराममुवाचवाक्यमाशु ।।6.110.39।।


दशरथसुतराक्षसेन्द्रयोः Dasharatha's son and Rakshasa king, रणे duel, राघवस्य Raghava's, जयम् victory, अनवेक्ष्य desiring to see, महात्मा great, सः he, सुरवररथसारथिः charioteer of Indra, रणरतरामम् fighting Rama, आशु these, वाक्यम् words, उवाच spoke

Great charioteer of Indra desiring to see Rama's victory in the duel between Dasharatha's son and Rakshasa king, spoke these words.

This is the end of one hundred and tenth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
