[Lamentation of Ravana's consorts on seeing his dead body.]

रावणंनिहतंदृष्टवाराघवेणमहात्मना ।

अन्तःपुराद्विनिष्पेतूराक्षस्यश्शोककर्शिताः ।।6.113.1।।


महात्मना great soul, राघवेण by Raghava, रावणम् Ravana, निहतम् killed, दृष्टवा seeing, राक्षस्यः Rakshasas, शोककर्शिताः stricken with grief, अन्तःपुरात् from the gynaeceum, विनिष्पेतुः rushed out

On seeing Ravana killed by the great soul Raghava, the Rakshasas from the gynaeceum stricken with grief rushed out.
वार्यमाणास्सुबहुशोवेष्टन्त्यःक्षितिपांसुषु ।

विमुक्तकेश्यश्शोकार्तागावोवत्सहतायथा ।।6.113.2।।


सुबहुशो: numerous Rakshasa women, वार्यमाणाः obstructed, क्षितिपांसुषु rolling in dust, वेष्ट्नत्यः encompassing, विमुक्तकेश्यः dishevelled, वत्सहताः young ones lost, गावःयथा like cows, शोकार्ताः crying

Numerous women, though obstructed, were rolling in dust, with dishevelled hair and crying like cows which had lost their calves.
उत्तरेणविनिष्क्रम्यद्वारेणसहराक्षसैः ।

प्रविश्यायोधनंघोरंविचिन्वन्त्वोहतंपतिम् ।।6.113.3।।

आर्यपुत्रेतिवादिन्योहानाथेति च सर्वशः ।

परिपेतुःकबन्धाङ्कांमहींशोणितकर्दमाम् ।।6.113.4।।


राक्षसैःसह along with Rakshasas, उत्तरेणद्वारेण northern gate, विनिष्क्रम्य coming out, हतम् killed, पतिम् husbands, विचिन्वन्त्वः crying, घोरम् dreadful, अयोधनम् battlefield, प्रविश्य entered, आर्यपुत्रेति O son, हानाथेति ha husband, वादिन्यः speaking, कबन्धाङ्काम् trunks, शोणितकर्दमाम् soaked in blood and mud, महीम् on ground, सर्वशः all over, परिपेतुःwent about

The Rakshasa women along with Rakshasas came out of the north gate and entered the battlefield screaming 'O son', 'O husband' and crying, seeing the trunks soaked in blood and mud on the ground and went about all over.
ताबाष्पपरिपूर्णाक्ष्योभर्तृशोकपराजिताः ।

करेण्वइवनर्द्नत्योविनेदुर्हतयूथपाः ।।6.113.5।।


बाष्पपरिपूर्णाक्ष्यः eyes filled with tears, भर्तृशोकपरिजाताः on account of grief for their husbands, ताः they, हतयूथपाः leader lost, करेण्वःइव like female elephant, नर्द्नत्यः bellowing, विनेदुः roared

Bellowing like female elephants that had lost their husbands, the women roared eyes filled with tears on account of grief for their husbands.
ददृशुस्तामहाकायंमहावीर्यंमहाद्युतिम् ।

रावणंनिहतम्भूमौनीलाञ्जनचयोपमम् ।।6.113.6।।


ताः they, महाकायम् gigantic body, महावीर्यम् extraordinary valour, महाद्युतिम् full of splendor, नीलाञ्जनचयोपमम् like heap of dark mountain, निहतम् killed, भूमौ on the ground, ददृशुः looked

They looked at the gigantic body of Ravana of extraordinary valour, full of splendor, killed and lying like a heap of dark mountain on the ground.
ताःपतिंसहसादृष्टवाशयानंरणपांसुषु ।

निपेतुस्तस्यगात्रेषुछिन्नावनलताइव ।।6.113.7।।


ताः they, रणपांसुषु in the battlefield, शयानम् lying, पतिम् husband, सहसा precipitately, दृष्टवा seeing, छिन्नाः broken, वनलताइव like creepers in a garden, तस्य his, गात्रेषु limbs, निपेतुः fallen

In the battlefield they saw their husband lying, and precipitately fell on his limbs like broken creepers in a garden.
बहुमानात्परिष्वज्यकाचिदेवंरुरोद ह ।

चरणौकाचिदालम्ब्यकाचित्कण्ठेऽवलम्ब्य च ।।6.113.8।।


काचित् indeed, बहुमानात् out of great respect, एनम् they, परिष्वज्य embracing, रुरोद ह roared aloud, काचित् some, चरणौ feet, आलम्ब्य holding, काचित् some, कण्ठे neck, अवलम्ब्य च started weeping

Indeed, out of respect some embraced him and roared aloud, some held his feet and wept, some held his neck and started weeping.
उत्क्षिप्य च भुजौकाचिद्भूमौसुपरिवर्तते ।

हतस्यवदनंदृष्टवाकाचिन्मोहमुपागमत् ।।6.113.9।।


काचित् some, भुजौ arms, उत्क्षिप्य throwing herself on ground, भूमौ on ground, सुपरिवर्तते rolled, काचित् some, हतस्य killed, वदनम् face, दृष्टवा seeing, मोहम् in delusion, उपागमत् holding

Some lifting their arms threw themselves on ground, some rolled, some beholding the dead Ravana's face became deluded.
काचिदङ्केशिरःकृत्वारुरोदमुखमीक्षती ।

स्नापयन्तीमुखंबाष्पैस्तुषारैरिवपङ्कजम् ।।6.113.10।।


काचित् some, शिरः head, अङ्के lap, कृत्वा holding, मुखम् face, ईक्षती looking, तुषारैः nature sheds dew, पङ्कजम् इव like from lotus, मुखम् face, बाष्पैः tears, स्नापयन्ती flowed, रुरोद roared

One held his head on her lap, and one held his face and looking at it shed tears, like nature covers lotus with dew and roared.
एवमार्ताःपतिंदृष्टवारावणंनिहतंभुवि ।

चुक्रुशुर्भहुधाशोकाद्भूयस्ताःपर्यदेवयन् ।।6.113.11।।


भुवि on the ground, निहतम् killed, पतिम् husband, रावणम् Ravana, दृष्टवा beholding, एवम् in that manner, आर्ताः afflicted, ताः they, बहुधा many, चुक्रुशुः again and again, शोकात् in sorrow, भूयः exceedingly, पर्यदेवयन् overcome with grief

Afflicted on beholding their husband Ravana, killed, and lying on the ground, the Rakshasa women again and again cried exceedingly in many ways overcome with grief.
येनमित्रासितःशक्रोयेनवित्रासितोयमः ।

येनवैश्रवणोराजापुष्पकेणवियोजितः ।।6.113.12।।

गन्धर्वाणामृषीणां च सुराणां च महात्मनाम् ।

भयंयेनरणेदत्तंसोऽयंशेतेरणेहतः ।।6.113.13।।


येन to whom, शक्रः Indra, वित्रासितः feared, येन to whom, यमः Yama, वित्रासितः feared, येन to whom, राजा king, वैश्रवणः Visrava, पुष्पकेण् Pushpaka, वियोजितः used by winning, येन to whom, रणे in war, गन्धर्वाणाम् Gandharvas, ऋषीणां च and ascetics, महात्मनाम् high souled, सुराणां च and Suras, भयम् fear, दत्तम् bestowed, सःअयम् he this, रणे battlefield, सतः lies, शेते asleep

"By whom Indra feared, by whom Yama feared, at whom king Visrava feared, by whom Pushpaka was deprived to Kubera in war, by whom Gandharvas and ascetics were afraid of, by whom high souled Suras were afraid of lies in the battlefield asleep."
असुरेभ्यःसुरेभ्योवापन्नगेभ्योऽपिवातथा ।

भयंयो न विजानातितस्येदंमानुषाद् भयम् ।।6.113.14।।


यः he who, असुरेभ्यः from Asuras, सुरेभ्योवा or Suras, तथा so also, पन्नगेभ्योऽपि Uragas also, भयम् fear, न विजानाति not known, तस्य his, मानुषात् by human, इदम् thus, भयम् experienced fear

"He, who did not know fear from Asuras or Uragas, experienced fear from a mortal."
अवध्योदेवतानांयस्तथादानवराक्षसाम् ।

हतःसोऽयंरणेशेतेमानुषेणपदातिना ।।6.113.15।।


यः he who, देवतानाम् Devatas, तथा so also, दानवरक्षनाम् Danavas, Rakshasas, अवध्यः not be killed, सःअयम् he, पदातिना by walk, मानुषेण by a mortal, रणे in battle, हतः killed, शेते lies asleep

"He, whom Devatas, Danavas and Rakshasas could not kill, lies asleep, killed by a mortal who came by walk."
यो न शक्यस्सुरैर्हन्तुं न यक्षैर्नासुरैस्तथा ।

सोऽयंकश्चिदिवासत्त्वोमृत्युंमर्त्येनलम्भितः ।।6.113.16।।


यः he who, सुरैः Suras, हन्तुम् to kill, न शक्यः not possible, यक्षै: Yaksha, न not, तथा so also, असुरैः Asuras, न not, सः he, अयम् this, असत्त्वः weak, कश्चिदिव like one devoid of strength, मर्त्येन by death, मृत्युम् death, लम्भितः resting

"He, who could not be killed by Suras, Asuras or Yakshas, such a hero lies like a weak person devoid of strength, killed by a mortal, is resting."
एवंवदन्त्योरुरुदुस्तस्यतादुःखिताःस्त्रियः ।

भूयएव च दुःखार्ताविलेपुश्चपुनःपुनः ।।6.113.17।।


तस्य his, दुःखिताः grieving, ताःस्त्रियःएवम् those women in that way, वदन्त्य: roaring, रुरुदुः aloud, भूयःएव च lamented again, दुःखार्ताः afflicted with sorrow, पुनःपुनः again and again, विलेपुः cried

Those women grieving in that way roared aloud, lamenting again and again cried, afflicted by sorrow.
अशृण्वतातुसुहृदांसततंहितवादिनाम् ।

मरणायहृतासीताराक्षसाश्चनिपातिताः ।।6.113.18।।

एतास्सममिदानींतेवयमात्मा च पातितः ।


सततम् always, हितवादिनाम् your welfare, सुहृदाम् dear and good at heart, अश्वण्वता not listened, मरणाय death, सीता Sita, आहृता brought, राक्षसाश्च Rakshasas, निपातिताः struck down, आत्मा च yourself, पातितः destroyed, समम् at a time, ते to you, एताःवयम् all of us, इदानीम् this way

"You did not listen to the good advice of your dear and good at heart. You brought Sita and destroyed yourself and all of us at a time."
ब्रुवाणोऽपिहितंवाक्यमिष्टोभ्राताविभीषणः ।।6.113.19।।

धृष्टंपरुषितोमोहत्त्वयात्मवथकाङ्क्षिणा ।


हितम् good, वाक्यम् words, ब्रुवाणोऽपि even though told, इष्टःभ्राता dear brother, विभीषणः Vibheeshana, धृष्टम् evidently, आत्मवथकाङ्णा sought your own destruction, त्वया by you, मोहात् in delusion, परुषितः harshly

"Even though good advice was given by your dear brother Vibheeshana, in your delusion evidently you sought your own destruction."
दिनिर्यातितातेस्वासतीतारामायमैथिली ।।6.113.20।।

ननस्स्याद्व्यसनंघोरमिदंमूलहरंमहत् ।


मैतिली Mythili, सीता Sita, ते to you, रामाय Rama's, निर्यातिता returned, यदिस्यात् if so with you, नः not, मूलहरम् destruction of the very root, इदम् this, महत् great, घोरम् terrific, व्यसनम् calamity, न स्यात् not happened

"If Sita, princess of Mithila had been returned by you, this great destruction of the very root and calamity with you and for us would not have happened."
वृत्तकामोभवेद्भ्रातारामोमित्रकुलंभवेत् ।।6.113.21।।

वयंचाध्विवाःसर्वाःसकमा न च शत्रवः ।


न्राता brother, वृत्तकामः desire fulfilled, भवेत् would be, रामः Rama, मित्रकुलम् turned to be friend, भवेत् would have been, वयम् our, सर्वाः all, अध्विनाः not widows, शत्रवः च enemy's, सकामाः that desire, न not

"If your brother's desire had been fulfilled Rama would have turned to be our friend. We would not have been widows. Our enemy's desire would not have been fulfilled."
त्वयापुनर्नृशंशंसेनसीतांसंरुन्धताबलात् ।।6.113.22।।

राक्षसावयमात्मा च त्रयंतुल्यंनिपातितम् ।


नृशंसेन with evil intention, सीताम् Sita, बलात् forcibly, संरुन्धता kept under detention, त्वयापुनः again by you, राक्षसाः Rakshasa, वयम् these आत्मा च and you too, त्रयम् three, तुल्यम् together, निपातितम् destroyed

"With evil intention you kept Sita under detention. These Rakshasas and you and us all the three are together destroyed."
न कामकारःकामंवातवराक्षसपुङ्गव ।

दैवंचेष्टयतेसर्वंहतंदैवेनहन्यते ।।6.113.23।।


राक्षसपुङ्गवः foremost of Rakshasas, कामम् desire, तव of yours, कामकारः acting to your will, न वा by you, सर्वम् all, दैवम् divine, चेष्टयते makes you do, देवेन by divine, हतम् killed, हन्यते kills

"O Foremost of Rakshasas! You have acted according to your desire alone is not sufficient as divine will make you do everything. He is killed whom destiny kills."
वानराणांविनाशोऽयंराक्षसानां च तेरणे ।

तवचैवमहाबाहो दैवयोगादुपागतः ।।6.113.24।।


महाबाहो mighty armed, रणे in war, वानराणाम् Vanaras, राक्षसानां च Rakshasas also, तव च you too, अयम् this, विनाशः destruction, दैवयोगात् with the divine grace, उपागतः has come

"O mighty armed Ravana! For Vanaras, Rakshasas and you too, this destruction in this war has come by divine grace."
नैवार्थेन न कामेनविक्रमेण न चाज्ञया ।

शक्यादैवगतिर्लोकेनिवर्तयितुमुद्यता ।।6.113.25।।


उद्यता to lift up, दैवगतिः divine course, लोके in the world, अर्थेन by wealth, निवर्तयितुम् to stop, न शक्या not possible, कामेन with will, न not, विक्रमेण by prowess, न not, आज्ञया च king's order, न not

"In the world, to change the divine course of action, it is not possible with wealth, or will or by prowess or king's orders."
विलेपुरेवंदीनास्ताराक्षसाधिपयोषितः ।

कुरर्यइवदुःखार्ताबाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणाः ।।6.113.26।।


ताः those, राक्षसाधिपयोषितः Ravana's wives, दीनाः piteously, दुःखार्ताः filled with grief, बाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणाः eyes dimmed with tears, कुरर्यःइव roared like Krauncha birds, एवम् in that way, विलेपुः wailed

The wives of Ravana wailed piteously in that manner filled with grief, eyes dimmed with tears, they roared like krauncha birds.
