[ At Rama's request Indra brings back life to all Vanaras and Bears lost life in combat. All the gods who came to witness Rama return.]

प्रतिप्रयातेकाकुत्स्थेमहेन्द्रःपाकशासनः ।

अब्रवीत्परमप्रीतोराघवंप्राञ्जलिंस्थितम् ।।6.123.1।।


काकुत्स्थे Kakuthsa, Dasharatha प्रतिप्रयाते returned, पाकशासनः the tamer of demon Paka, महेन्द्रः Mahendra, परमप्रीतः very affectionately, प्राञ्जलिम् saluting with joined palms, स्थितम् stood, राघवम् Raghava, अब्रवीत् spoke

Mahendra, the tamer of demon Paka, spoke very affectionately to Rama, who stood with joined palms before Dasharatha who had returned.
अमोघंदर्शनंराम तवास्माकंनरर्षभ ।

प्रीतियुक्ताःस्मतेनत्वंब्रूहियन्मनसेप्सितम् ।।6.123.2।।


नरर्षभ bull among men, राम Rama, तव your, अस्माकम् yourself, दर्शनम् sight, अमोघम् amazing, प्रीतियुक्ताः happy, स्म in your, तेन so, मनसा in your mind, यत् that which, ईप्सितम् desiring, त्वम् you, ब्रूहि may tell

"O Rama, a bull among men! Your sight was amazing, and we are happy. Please tell us the desire in your mind?"
एवमुक्तोमहेन्द्रेणप्रसन्नेनमहात्मना ।

सुप्रसन्नमनाहृष्टोवचनंप्राहराघवः ।।6.123.3।।


प्रसन्नेन gratified, महात्मना great soul, महेन्द्रेण to Mahendra, एवम् in this way, उक्तः said, राघवःRaghava, सुप्रसन्नात्मा very pleased, हृष्टः happy, वचनम् words, प्राह submitted

Gratified by Mahendra's words, Raghava was very happy and pleased, submitting to him as follows.
यदिप्रीतिस्समुत्पन्नामयितेविबुधेश्वर ।

वक्ष्यामिकुरुमेसत्यंवचनंवदतांवर ।।6.123.4।।


वदतांवर good at expression, विबुधेश्वर Lord of gods, ते you, मयि my, प्रीतिः happiness, समुत्पन्नायदि has risen, मे my, वचनम् words, सत्यम् true, कुरु make it

"O Lord of gods, you are one who is good at expression. If happiness has risen in, you please make my words true."
ममहेतोःपराक्रान्तायेगतायमसादनम् ।

तेसर्वेजीवितंप्राप्यसमुततिष्ठन्तुवानराः ।।6.123.5।।


ममहेतोः for my cause, पराक्रान्ताः who fought, ये those, वानराः Vanaras, यमसादनम् abode of Yama, गताः reached, तेसर्वे all of them, जीवितम् life, प्राप्य get back, समुततिष्ठन्तु make them rise up

"The Vanaras have fought for my cause and reached the abode of Yama. Make them rise up and get them back to life."
मत्कृतेविप्रयुक्तायेपुत्रैर्दारैश्चवानराः ।

तान्प्रीतमनसःसर्वान्द्रष्टुमिच्छामिमानद ।।6.123.6।।


मानद honourable, मत्कृते for my sake, ये they, वानराः Vanaras, पुत्रैः sons, दारैश्च wives, विप्रयुक्ताः seperated for good, तान् them, सर्वान् all, प्रीतमनसः delighted, द्रष्टुम् to see, इच्छामि I wish

"O honourable Indra! I wish to see all those Vanaras who are separated forever from their sons, and wives for my cause, delighted."
विक्रान्ताश्चापिशूराश्च न मृत्युंगणयन्ति च ।

कृतयत्नाविपन्नाश्चजीवयैनान् पुरन्दर ।।6.123.7।।


विक्रान्ताः च valiant, शूराश्च courageous, मृत्युम् death, न गणयन्ति च not cared for, कृतयत्नाः did utmost, विपन्नाःच fallen into adversity, पुरन्दर Purandara, destroyer of citadels, एतान् all of them, जीवय bring to life

"They were valiant and courageous and did not care for life. They did their utmost, died and fell into adversity. Purandara! Get all of them back to life."
मत्प्रियेष्वभिरक्ताश्च न मृत्युंगणयन्तिये ।

त्वत्प्रसादात्समेयुस्तेवरमेतमहंवृणे ।।6.123.8।।


मत्प्रियेषु at death, अभिरक्ताः fond of doing, ये they, मृत्युम् death, न गणयन्ति not counted, ते they, त्वत्प्रासादात् by your grace, समेयुः in war, अहम् I, एतम् all of them, वरम् boon, वृणे seek

"They were fond of doing and not counted death. I seek your grace to give a boon to relieve all of them from death."
नीरुजोनिर्व्रणांश्चैवसम्पन्नबलपौरुषान् ।

गोलाङ्गूलांस्तथैवर्क्षांन्द्रष्टुमिच्छामिमानद ।।6.123.9।।


मानद bestower of honour, गोलाङ्गूलान् longtailed monkeys, तथा similarly, वक्षांश्च Bears, नीरुजः purified without any pain, निर्व्रणांश्चैव from death, सम्पन्नबलपौरुषान् enriched with strength and courage, द्रष्टुम् to see, इच्छामि desire

"Bestower of honour! I wish to see the longtailed Vanaras, and Bears rid of pain and death, enriched with strength and courage."
अकालेचापिपुष्पाणिमूलानि च फलानि च ।

नद्यश्चविमलास्तत्रतिष्ठेयुर्यत्रवानराः ।।6.123.10।।


वानराः Vanaras, यत्र there, तिष्ठेयुः living, तत्र there, अकालेचापि even though out of season, पुष्पाणि flowers, मूलानि च and roots, फलानि च fruits, विमलाः pure, नद्यश्च rivers

"Let the location where Vanaras lived, have flowers, roots, fruits even though out of season and rivers with pure water."
श्रुत्वातुवचनंतस्यराघवस्यमहात्मनः ।

महेन्द्रःप्रत्युवाचेदंवचनंप्रीतिसंयुतम् ।।6.123.11।।


महात्मनः great self, तस्य his, राघवस्य Raghava's, वचनम् words, श्रुत्वातु hearing also, महेन्द्रः Mahendra, प्रीतिसंयुतम् replied, इदम् this, वचनम् words, प्रत्युवाच in turn

Hearing high souled Raghava's words, Mahendra in turn replied as follows.
महानयंवरस्तातयस्त्वयोक्तोरघूत्तम ।

वदिर्मयानोक्तपूर्वं च तस्मादेतद्भविष्यति ।।6.123.12।।


तात dear, रघूत्तम foremost of Raghus, यः that which, त्वया by you, उक्तः sought, अयम् this, वरः boon, महान् great, मया by me, वदिः asked, न उक्तपूर्वम् even before you asked, तस्मात् therefore, एतत् everything, एवम् in that way, भविष्यति will be granted

"Dear Rama! that which has been sought by you is great. Nothing has been revised by me in the past. Therefore, everything asked by you will be granted by this boon."
समुत्तिष्ठन्तुतेसर्वेहतायेयुधिराक्षसैः ।

ऋक्षाश्चसहगोपुच्छैर्निकृत्ताननबाहवः ।।6.123.13।।


ये those, युधि combat, राक्षसैः by the Rakshasas, हताः killed, तेसर्वे all of them, निकृत्ताननबाहवः severed arms and heads deformed, गोपुच्छैः long tailed, ऋक्षाश्च Bears, समुत्तिष्ठन्तु duly rise to life

"Let those long tailed Vanaras and Bears killed by Rakshasas, whose heads and arms had been severed, duly rise to life."
नीरुजोनिर्व्रणाश्चैवसम्पन्नबलपौरुषाः ।

समुत्थास्यन्तिहरयस्सुप्तानिद्राक्ष्येयथा ।।6.123.14।।


हरयः monkeys, नीरुजः healed, निर्व्रणाश्चैव from death, सम्पन्नबलपौरुषाः enriched with strength and power, सुप्ताः sleeping, निद्राक्ष्येयथा like rising from sleep, समुत्थास्यन्ति rise up

The monkeys duly healed, so also from death, enriched with strength and power rose up like rising from sleep.
सुहृद्भिर्बान्धवैश्चैवज्ञातिभिःस्वजनेन च ।

सर्वएवसमेष्यन्तिसम्युक्ताःपरयामुदा ।।6.123.15।।


सर्वेएव all in that way, परया, मुदा happily, सम्युक्ताः reunited, सुहृद्भिः highly rejoiced, बान्धवैश्चैव with relatives, ज्ञातिभिः own clan, स्वजनेन own people, समेष्यन्ति will get united

"Let all in that way happily get reunited and highly rejoiced, with relatives, own clan and own people get united."
अकालेपुष्पशबलाःफलवन्तश्चपादपाः ।

भविष्यन्तिमहेष्वास नद्यश्चसलिलायुताः ।।6.123.16।।


महेष्वास wielder of great bow, पादपाः trees, अकाले unseason, पुष्पशबलाः with blossom, फलवन्तश्च and with fruits, भविष्यन्ति will be, नद्यश्च rivers, सलिलायुताः remain with water

The trees will be with blossoms and fruits even though it is unseasonal. The rivers will remain with waters.
सव्रणैःप्रथमंगात्रैरिदानींनिर्व्रणैस्समैः ।

ततस्समुत्थितास्सर्वेसुप्त्वेवहरियूथपाः ।।6.123.17।।

बभूवुर्वानरास्सर्वेकिंन्वेतदितिविस्मिताः ।


ततः then, सर्वे all, हरियूथपाः army of Vanaras, प्रथमम् earlier, सव्रणैः of the wounds, इदानीम् these, निर्व्रणैः dead, समैः united, गात्रैः limbs, सुप्त्वेव having slept, समुथतिताः like getting up, सर्वे all, वानराः Vanaras, एतत् these, किंनु What happened, इति this, विस्मिताः amazed, बभूवुः became

All the army of Vanaras healed from the wounds, who were earlier covered with wounds and all the dead monkeys together rose up like getting up from sleep. They were amazed and started saying 'What happened'!
काकुत्स्थंपरिपूर्णार्थंदृष्टवासर्वेसुरोत्तमाः ।।6.123.18।।

अब्रुवन्परमप्रीतास्स्तुत्वारामंसलक्ष्मणम् ।


सर्वे all, सुरोत्तमाः best of suras, परिपूर्णार्थम् fully accomplished, काकुत्थ्सम् to Kakuthsa, दृष्टवाseeing, परमप्रीताः very affectionately, सलक्ष्मणम् and Lakshmana, रामम् Rama, स्तुत्वा praised, अब्रुवन् spoken

Seeing all of them fully accomplished, the best of Suras very affectionately praised Rama and Lakshmana and spoke.
गच्छायोध्यामितोराजन्विसर्जय च वानरान् ।।6.123.19।।

मैथिलींसान्त्वयस्वैनामनुरक्तांयशस्विनीम् ।


राजन् king, इतः from here, अयोध्याम् Ayodhya, गच्छ return, वानरान् Vanaras, विसर्जय च leaving, अनुरक्ताम् very dear, यशस्विनीम् illustrious, एनाम् this, मैथिलीम् Mythili, सान्त्वयस्व assuring

"King, return from here to Ayodhya leaving the monkeys. Reassure Mythili, who is very dear to you and an illustrious one."
भ्रारातरंभरतंपश्यत्वच्छोकाद्व्रतचारिणम् ।।6.123.20।।

शत्रुघ्नं च महात्मानंमात्रूःसर्वाःपरन्तप ।

अभिषेचयचात्मानंपौरान्गत्वाप्रहर्षय ।।6.123.21।।


परन्तप subduer of enemies, त्वच्छोकात् grief due to separation from you, व्रतचारिणम् devoted, भ्रातरम् brothers, भरतम् Bharata, महात्मानम् great souls, शत्रुघ्नं च and Satrughna, सर्वाः all, मात्रूः mothers, पश्य see, आत्मानम् you, अभिषेचय consecrate, गत्वा reaching, पौरान् people, प्रहर्षय rejoice

"Subduer of enemies! See your brothers, great souls Bharata and Satrughna devoted to you who are in grief due to your separation, see your mothers. Get consecrated. People will rejoice.
एवमुक्त्वासहस्राक्षोरामंसौमित्रिणासह ।

विमानैःसूर्यसङ्काशैर्ययौहृष्टःसुरैःसह ।।6.123.22।।


सहस्राक्षः thousand eyed Indra, सौमित्रिणासह with Saumithri, रामम् Rama, एवम् in that way, उक्त्वा having spoken, हृष्टः delighted, सुरैःसह with Suras, सूर्यसङ्काशैः resembling sun, विमानैः aerial car, ययौ returned

The thousand eyed Indra, having spoken in that way to Rama and Saumithri, delighted, they returned to heaven in an aerial car with Suras.
अभिवाद्य च काकुत्स्थ: सर्वांस्तांस्त्रिदशोत्तमान् ।

लक्ष्मणेनसहभ्रात्रावासमाज्ञापयत्तदा ।।6.123.23।।


तदा then, भ्रात्रा brother, लक्ष्मणेनसह with Lakshmana, काकुत्स्थ : Kakuthsa, तान् those, सर्वान् all, त्रिदशोत्तमान् jewels among gods, अभिवाद्य greeting, वासम् home, आज्ञापयत् ordered

Then greeting all the jewels among gods present there, accompanied by brother Lakshmana, Kakuthsa Rama ordered all Vanaras to go home and rest.
ततस्तुसालक्ष्मणरामपालितामहाचमूर्हृष्टजनायशस्विनी ।

श्रियाज्वलन्तीविरराजसर्वतोनिशाप्रणीतेवहिशीतरश्मिना ।।6.123.24।।


ततः then, लक्ष्मणरामपालिता protected by Rama and Lakshmana, हृष्टजना delighted people, यशस्विनी illustrious, सा he, महाचमूः huge army, श्रिया splendour, ज्वलन्ती blazing, शीतरश्मिना night illumined by full moon, प्रणीता advanced, निशेव observing, सर्वतः all over, विरराज illumined

Then the huge army protected by Rama and Lakshmana, were delighted and causing splendour all over. As they advanced, they shone like the night illumined by moon.
।। इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेत्रयोविंशत्युत्तरशततमस्सर्गः ।।
This is the end of one hundred and twenty third sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
