[ Indrajith objects Vibheeshana's advice. Vibheeshana replies Indrajith. ]

बृहस्पतेस्तुल्यमतेर्वचस्तन्निशम्ययत्नेनविभीषणस्य ।

ततोमहात्मावचनंबभाषेतत्रेन्द्रजिन्नैरृतयूथमुख्यः ।।6.15.1।।


बृहस्ततेः like Brhaspathi, तुल्यमतेः highly intelligent, विभीषणस्य: Vibheeshana's, तत् those, वचः words, यत्नेन: with restraint, निशम्य: beholding, ततः there, महात्मा: great soul, नैरृतयोथमुख्यः the leader of Rakshasa army, इन्द्रजित् Indrajith, तत्र: there, वचनम् words, बभाषे: spoke.

Thus spoke Indrajith, the great leader of the Rakshasa army, having heard the words spoken by the highly intelligent Vibheeshana who was equal to Brhaspathi in wisdom.
किंनामतेतातकनिष्ठवाक्यमनर्थकंचेवेसुबसुभीतवच्च ।

अस्मिन्कुलेयोऽपिभवेन्नजातस्सोऽपीदृशंनैववदेन्नकुर्यात् ।।6.15.2।।


कनिष्ठतात: father's younger brother (uncle), किंनाम: What a statement, ते: by you, वाक्यम् words, अनर्थकम् meaningless, सुभीतवच्च: frightened, यः such, अस्मिनकुले: in this race, जातः born, न: not, भवेत् What you said, सोपि: unbecoming, ईदृशम् such words, नैववदेत् will not speak, नकुर्यात् not do.

"What a meaningless statement you made uncle, being frightened? One who is not born in our race also would not have said such unbecoming words uttered by you (nor do such unbecoming acts)?"
सत्त्वेनवीर्येणपराक्रमेणशौर्येणधैर्येणचतेजसाच ।

एकःकुलेऽस्मिन्पुरुषोविमुक्तोविभीषणस्तातकनिष्ठएषः ।।6.15.3।।


अस्मिन् in this, कुले: race, एषः that way, तातकनिष्ठ: younger father, विभीषणः Vibheeshana, एकः alone, सत्त्वेन: in strength, वीर्येण: in valour, पराक्रमेण: in prowess, धैर्येण: courage, शौर्येण: heroism, तेजसाच: and boldness, विमुक्ताः devoid of, पुरुषः man.

"In this race, alone younger father Vibheeshana is devoid of strength, valour, prowess, heroism, courage and boldness."
किंनामतौमानुषराजपुत्रावस्माकमेकेनहिराक्षसेन ।

सुप्राकृतेनापिरणेनिहन्तुमेतौशक्यौकुतोभीषयसेस्मभीरो ।।6.15.4।।


तौ: those two, मानुषराजपुत्रा: sons of king of men, किंनाम: why do you, एतौ: at them, अस्माकम् from among us, सुप्राकृतेनापि: one who is ordinary, एकेन: alone, राक्षसेन: by Rakshasas, रणे: in war, निहन्तुम् would kill, शक्यौ: possible, भीरो: timid, कुतः doing, भीषयसे: making to fear.

"Those two sons of the king of men could be killed in war by an ordinary Rakshasa among us single handed. O timid one Why are you scaring us?"
त्रिलोकनाथोननुदेवराजश्शक्रोमयाभूमितलेनिविष्टः ।

भयार्पिताश्चापिदिशःप्रपन्नास्सर्वेतथादेवगणास्समग्राः ।।6.15.5।।


तदा: at one time, त्रिलोकनाथः Lord of the three worlds, शक्रः Indra, देवराजः king of gods, तथा: that way, भूमितले: on the ground, निविष्टः cast down, सर्वे: all, देवगणाः Devatas groups, भयार्पिताश्चापि: and scared of, समग्राः entire, दिशः direction, प्रपन्नाः fled.

"I have cast down on the ground, Indra, the Lord of gods and of three worlds. At one time all the gods in groups fled in all directions scared of me."
ऐरावतोविस्वरमुन्नदन् सनिपातितोभूमितलेमयातु ।

विकृष्यदन्तौतुमयाप्रसह्यवित्रासितादेवगणास्समग्राः ।।6.15.6।।


विस्वरम् making noise, उन्नदन् coming towards, सः that, ऐरावतः Airavata elephant, मया: by me, भूमितलेनिपातितः pushed down, प्रसह्य: violently, दन्तौ: tusks, विकृष्य: pulled down, मया: by me, समग्राः entire, देवगणाः group of gods, वित्रासिताः chased them.

"I pushed down the elephant Airavata coming towards me making noise, pulled down its tusks forcibly and chased the entire group of gods."
सोऽहंसुराणामपिदर्पहन्तादैत्योत्तमानामपिशोकदाता ।

कथंनरेन्द्रात्मजयोर्नशक्तोमनुष्ययोःप्राकृतयोस्सुवीर्यः ।।6.15.7।।


सुराणामपि even Devendra, दर्पहन्ता crushed down the arrogance, दैत्योत्तमानामपि even the leaders of Rakshasas, शोकदाता: will cause grief, सुवीर्यः such a valorous one, सःअहम् that I am, प्राकृतयोः ordinary people, मनुष्ययोः human beings, नरेन्द्रात्मजयोः sons of kings, कथम् how, नशक्तः not possible.

"I am such a valiant one who crushed the arrogance of even the king of gods, Devendra. I can put even the Rakshasa leaders to grief. How is it not possible for me to do away the sons of kings who are ordinary human beings."
अथेन्द्रकल्पस्यदुरासदस्यमहौजसस्तद्वचनंनिशम्य ।

ततोमहार्थवचनंबभाषेविभीषणश्शस्त्रभृतांवरिष्ठः ।।6.15.8।।


अथ: and then, इन्द्रकल्पस्य: one who is equal to Indra, दुरासदस्य: dangerous one, महौजसः foremost of the warriors, तत् वचनम् those words, निशम्य: observing, शस्त्रभृताम् among the wielders of weapons, वरिष्ठः great, विभीषणः Vibheeshana, ततः that, महार्थम् highly beneficial advice, वचनम् बभाषे: these words spoke.

Vibheeshana, the best among wielders of weapons, spoke the following words of highly beneficial advice after hearing the words of dangerous Indrajith, the foremost of the warriors.
नतातमन्त्रेतवनिश्चयोऽस्तिबालस्त्वमद्याप्यविपक्वबुद्धि: ।

तस्मात्त्वयाप्यात्मविनाशनायवचोऽर्धहीनंबहुविप्रलप्तम् ।।6.15.9।।


तात: dear, तव: your, मन्त्रे: in decision making, निश्चयः settlement, नास्ति: not having, बालः being a boy, त्वम् you, अद्यापि: even now, अविपक्वबुद्धि: you are not mature, तस्मात् therefore, त्वयापि: by you too, आत्मविनाशनाय: self destructive, अर्थहीनम् devoid of any sense, बहु: all, वचः words, विप्रलप्तम् incoherently.

"O dear You have no capacity for decision making. You are young and not mature. Therefore, you are talking incoherently without any sense which is selfdestructive."
पुत्रप्रवादेवतुरावणस्यत्वमिन्द्रजिन्मित्रमुखोऽसिशत्रुः ।

यस्येदृशंराघवतोविनाशंनिशम्यमोहादनुमन्यसेत्वम् ।।6.15.10।।


इन्द्रजित् Indrajith, राघवतः from Raghava, यस्य: his, ईदृशम् this kind of, विनाशम् destruction, निशम्य: on hearing, मोहात् out of delusion, त्वम् you, अनुमन्यसे: accepting, रावणस्य: Ravana's, पुत्रप्रवादेन: calling yourself son of, मित्रमुखः like friend, शत्रुः foe, असि: you are.

"Indrajith Though you are calling yourself as the son of Ravana and pretending to be a friend, you are his foe. Even after hearing about the kind of destruction (of Ravana, his kingdom etc.) from Rama, out of delusion you are accepting (with Ravana)."
त्वमेववध्यश्चसुदुर्मतिश्चसचापिवध्योयइहाऽनयत्त्वाम् ।

बालंदृढंसाहसिकंचयोऽद्यप्रावेशयन्मन्त्रकृतांसमीपम् ।।6.15.11।।


त्वमेव: you yourself, वध्यश्च: deserved to be killed, बालम् young, दृढम् determined, सुसाहसिकं: one who loves to make bold attempt, त्वम् you, यः whoever, इह: here, आनयत् brought you, मन्त्रकृताम् polluting your thought, समीपम् here, अद्य: now, प्रावेशयत् made to enter, सुदुर्मतिः evil minded, सः he च: and.

"You who are evil minded, deserve to be killed. The one who brought you here is young and loves you to make bold attempts. He is polluting your mind and deserves to be killed."
मूढोऽप्रगल्भोऽविनयोपपन्नस्तीक्षणस्वभावोऽल्पमतिर्दुरात्मा ।

मूर्खस्त्वमत्यर्थसुदुर्मतिश्चत्वमिन्द्रजिद्बालतयाब्रवीषि ।।6.15.12।।


इन्द्रजित् Indrajith, त्वम् your, मूढः foolish one, अप्रगल्भः one who boasts himself, अविनयोपपन्नः lack obedience, तीक्षणस्वभावः wicked nature, अल्पमतिः of poor intellect, दुरात्मा: cruel, मूर्खः ignorant, अत्यर्थसुदुर्मतिश्च: extremely evil minded, त्वम् you are, बालतया: like a child, ब्रवीषि: spoken.

"Indrajith You are foolish and boasting yourself. You lack obedience. You are wicked by nature, cruel, poor in intellect, extremely evil minded, ignorant and have spoken like a child."
कोब्रह्मदण्डप्रतिमप्रकाशानर्चिष्मतःकालनिकाशरूपान् ।

सहेतबाणान्यमदण्डकल्पान्समक्षमुक्तान्युधिराघवेण ।।6.15.13।।


युधि: in combat, राघवेण: with Raghava, समक्षमुक्तान् released in the presence, ब्रह्मदण्डप्रतिमप्रकाशान् resembling the shaft of Brahma in splendour, अर्चिष्मतः flames of fire, कालनिकाशरूपान् resembling like death, युमदण्डकल्पान् of the form of Lord of death 's shaft, बाणान् arrows, कः who, सहेता: can bear.

"Who can bear the arrows released by Rama in combat, which resembles the shaft of Brahma in splendour and flames of fire resembling death and equal to the shaft of the Lord of death?"
धनानिरत्नानिसुभूषणानिवासांसिदिव्यानिमणींश्च ।

चित्रान् सीतांचरामायनिवेद्यदेवींवसेमराजन् निहवीतशोकाः ।।6.15.14।।


राजन् king, धनानि: wealth, रत्नानि: gems, सुभूषाणानि: good ornaments, दिव्यानि: wonderful, वासांसि: clothes, चित्रान् beautiful, मणींश्च: precious gems, सीतांदेवींच: with celebrated Sita, रामाय: to Rama, निवेद्य: offer, इह: here, वीतशोकाः devoid of sorrow, वसेम: will remain.

"O King We will offer celebrated Sita to Rama along with wealth, gems, good ornaments, wonderful and beautiful clothes and precious gems and remain here devoid of sorrow."

This is the end of the fifteenth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic of the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
