Sloka & Translation

[Sri Rama warns Sugriva against such action being a king and commands Vanara army generals to besiege all the four gates of Lanka. Angada is sent to Ravana to communicate Rama's message that unless Ravana returns Sita back to Rama, he will be killed and Vibheeshana will be made the king of Lanka.]

अथतस्मिन्निमित्तानिदृष्टवालक्ष्मणपूर्वजः ।

सुग्रीवंसम्परिष्वज्यतथावचनमब्रवीत् ।।6.41.1।।


अथ and then, लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः Lakshmana's brother, तथा likewise, तस्मिन् for his, निमित्तानि signs, दृष्टवा seeing, सुग्रीवम् in Sugriva, संपरिष्वज्य embraced, वचनम् these words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Rama, brother of Lakshmana, seeing the signs of war, embraced Sugriva and spoke these words.
असन्त्ऱ्यमयासार्थंतदिदंसाहसंकृतम् ।

एवंसाहसुक्तानिनकुर्वन्तिजनेश्वराः ।।6.41.2।।


मयासार्थम् with me, असन्त्ऱ्य consulting, तत् that, इदम् thus, साहसम् boldly, कृतम् done, जनेश्वराः rulers, एवम् in this way, साहसयुक्तानि courageous actions, नकुर्वन्ति do not do.

"You have done this courageous feat without consulting me. Rulers do not do such actions."
संशयेस्थाप्यमांचेदंबलंचसविभीषणम् ।

कष्टंकृतमिदंवीर साहसंसाहसप्रिय ।।6.41.3।।


साहसप्रिय one who is fond of daring action, वीर hero, मांच for me, इदम् this, बलंच army also, सविभीषणंच and also Vibheeshana, संशये doubt, स्थाप्य created, कष्टम् difficult, इदम् this, साहसम् bold action, कृतम् performed by you.

"O hero, who is fond of daring actions! To me, to the army and Vibheeshana you created a great doubt by this bold action of yours."
इदानींमाकृथावीर एवंविधमचिन्तितम् ।

त्वयिकिञ्चित्समापन्नेकिंकार्यंसीतयामम ।।6.41.4।।

भरतेनमहाबाहो लक्ष्मणेनयवीयसा ।

शत्रुघ्नेनचशत्रुघ्नस्वशरीरेणवापुन:।। 6.41.5।।


अरिन्दम tamer of foes, वीर hero, इदानीम् here after, एवंविधम् this kind of, माकृथाः not do, महाबाहो broad shouldered, शत्रुघ्न destroyer of foes, त्वयि your, किञ्चित् even a little, समापन्ने harm, मम my, सीतया Sita, भरतेन also Bharata, यवीयसा, लक्ष्मणेन even Lakshmana, शत्रुघ्नेन and Satrughna also, स्वशरीरेणवा my own body पुनः again, किंकार्यम् What is the use?

"O broad shouldered hero, tamer of foes! Do not do this kind of action. Even if you were harmed a bit, O destroyer of foes, of what use is it to me or even to Sita, Bharata, Satrughna or to Lakshmana or even to my body?"
त्वयिचानागतेपूर्वमितिमेनिश्चितामतिः ।

जानतश्चापितेवीर्यंमहेन्द्रवरुणोसम ।।6.41.6।।

हत्वाऽहंरावणंयुद्धेसपुत्रबलवाहनम् ।

अभिषिच्यचलङ्कायांविभीषणमथापिच ।।6.41.7।।

भरतेराज्यमावेश्यत्यक्ष्येदेहंमहाबल ।


महेन्द्रवरुणोसम resembling Indra and Varuna, महाबल mighty, त्वयि your, अनागते before arrival, ते your, वीर्यम् valour, जानतश्चापि even though known, मे to me, मतिः mind, पूर्वम् earlier, निश्चिता decided, अहम् I, युद्धे in battle, सपुत्रबलवाहनम् sons and relatives, रावणम् of Ravana, हत्वा killing, विभीषणम् to Vibheeshana, लङ्कायाम् Lanka, अभिषिच्य coronate, अथापिच myself, भरते to Bharata, राज्यम् kingdom, आरोप्य handing over, देहम् body, त्यक्ष्ये give up.

"Mighty Sugriva! You resemble Indra and Varuna in might. Your valour is known to me. I have decided in my mind to kill the sons of Ravana and his relatives in battle, coronate Vibheeshana in Lanka, and hand over the kingdom to Bharata and give up my body."
तमेवंवादिनंरामंसुग्रीवःप्रत्यभाषत ।।6.41.8।।

तवभार्यापहर्तारंदृष्टवाराघव रावणम् ।

मर्षयामिकथंवीरजानपौरुषमात्मनः ।।6.41.9।।


एवंवादिनम् told in that manner, तम् by, रामम् Rama, सुग्रीवः to Sugriva, प्रत्यभाषत replied, वीर hero, राघव Raghava, तव your, भार्यापहर्तारम् borne away your consort, रावणम् Ravana, दृष्टवा seeing, आत्मनः I myself, बलम् strength, जानन् knowing, कथम् how can, मर्षयामि tolerate.

To Rama who was speaking in that manner, Sugriva replied, "Heroic Rama! Seeing that Ravana, who has borne away your consort, and knowing my own strength, how can I tolerate?"
इत्येवंवादिनंवीरमभिनन्द्यचराघवः ।

लक्ष्मणंलक्षीसम्पन्नमिदंवचनमब्रवीत् ।।6.41.10।।


राघवः Raghava, इत्येवंवादिनम् thus spoken, वीरम् hero, अभिनन्द्य applauding, लक्ष्मिसम्पन्नम् endowed with prosperity, लक्ष्मणम् to Lakshmana, इदम् these, वचनम् words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Raghava heard the hero Sugriva, applauding him and spoke these words to Lakshmana, who was endowed with prosperity.
परिगृह्योदकंशीतंवनानिफलवन्तिच ।

बलौघंसंविभज्येमंव्यूह्यतिष्ठेमलक्ष्मण ।।6.41.11।।


लक्ष्मण Lakshmana, शीतम् cool, उदकम् water, फलवन्ति good fruits, वनानिच woods, परिगृह्य occupying, इमम् this, बलौघम् army, संविभज्य divide, व्यूह्य plan, तिष्ठाम be ready.

"Lakshmana! We should occupy a region with cool water and good fruits and plan to divide the army and be ready."
लोकक्षयकरंभीमंभयंपश्याम्युपस्थितम् ।

निबर्हणंप्रवीराणामृक्षवानररक्षसाम् ।।6.41.12।।


लोकक्षयकरम् that which bodes destruction of the world, भीमम् terrific, प्रवीराणाम् eminent heroes, ऋक्षवानररक्षसाम् to Bears, monkeys and Rakshasas, निबर्हणम् danger, भयम् fear, उपस्थितम् approaching, पश्यामि see.

"I foresee the terrific destruction of eminent heroes among Bears, monkeys and Rakshasas. I see the danger approaching."
वाताश्चहिपरुषांवान्तिकम्पतेचवसुन्धरा ।

पर्वताग्राणिवेपन्तेपतन्तिधरणीधराः ।।6.41.13।।


वाताः winds, परुषम् severely, वान्ति blowing, वसुन्धराच in the earth, कम्पते quacking, पर्वताग्राणि mountain peaks, वेपन्ते shaking, धरणीधराः those elephants bearing the earth, पतन्ति falling.

"The winds are blowing severely, the earth is quaking in, the mountain peaks are shaking, and the elephants bearing the earth (in the four corners) are falling."
मेघाःक्रवादसङ्काशाःपरुषाःपरुषस्वनाः ।

क्रूराःक्रूरंप्रवर्षन्तिमिश्रंशोणितबिन्दुभिः ।।6.41.14।।


क्रनादसङ्काशाः like wild birds, परुषाः harsh, परुषस्वनाः producing harsh sounds, क्रूराः fierce, मेघाः clouds, क्रूरम् terrific, शोणितबिन्धुभिः blood drops, मिश्रम् mixed with, प्रवर्षन्ति raining

"The fierce clouds resembling wild birds are making terrible harsh sounds and rain mixed with drops of blood is showering."
रक्तचन्दनसङ्काशासन्ध्यापरमदारुणा ।

ज्वलच्चनिपतत्येतदादित्यादग्निमण्डलम् ।।6.41.15।।


रक्तचन्दनसङ्काशा resembling red sanders, सन्ध्या twilight, परमदारुणा very frightening, आदित्यात् from Sun, ज्वलत् fire, एतत् all this, अग्निमण्डलम् like mass of fire, विपतति falling down.

"The twilight appears like red sander trees, the burning fire falling from the sun is like a mass of fire and frightening."
आदित्यमभिवाश्यन्तिजनयन्तोमहद्भयम् ।

दीनादीनस्वराःघोरानप्रशस्तामृगद्विजाः ।।6.41.16।।


दीनाः desperate, दीनस्वराः crying pitifully, घोराः dreadful, नप्रशस्ताः inauspicious, मृगद्विजाः ominous beasts, महत् great, भयम् fear, जनयन्तः creating, आदित्यम् from Sun, अभिवाश्यन्ति facing the Sun.

"The desperate inauspicious sounds of ominous beasts crying pitifully facing the sun are causing great fear."
रजन्यामप्रकाशश्चसन्तापयतिचन्द्रमाः ।

कृष्णरक्तांशुपर्यन्तोयथालोकस्यसंक्ष्ये ।।6.41.17।।


लोकस्य of the universe, संक्ष्येयथा like the dissolution, कृष्णरक्तांशुपर्यन्तः surrounded with black and red halo, अप्रकाशः not radiant, चन्द्रमाः the moon, रजन्याम् in the night, सन्तापयति tormented.

"Like at the time of universal dissolution, the moon is not radiant, being surrounded by black and red halo at night and is tormenting."
ह्रस्वोरूक्षोऽप्रशस्तश्चपरिवेषस्सुलोहितः ।

आदित्यमण्डलेनीलंलक्ष्मलक्ष्मण दृश्यते ।।6.41.18।।


लक्ष्मण Lakshmana, आदित्यमण्डले Sun 's orbit, ह्रस्वः shortened, रूक्षः dreary, अप्रशस्तः inauspicious, सुलोहितः copper coloured, परिवेषः surrounding, नीलम् dark, लक्ष्म seen, लक्षयते observable.

"Lakshmana! Short dark spot observed in the Sun 's orbit is inauspicious. moon is surrounded by copper colour and dreary."
दृश्यन्तेनयथावच्छनक्षत्राण्यभिवर्तते ।

युगान्तमिवलोकस्यपश्यलक्ष्मण शंसति ।।6.41.19।।


लक्ष्मण Lakshmana, नक्षत्राणि even stars, यथावत् so also, नदृश्यन्ते not visible, लोकस्य in the universe, युगान्तम् end of the universe, शंसतीव spots on the moon, अभिवर्तते dirty, पश्य seen.

"Just as the spots on the moon, the stars are also dirty and not visible. It forebodes the end of the universe Lakshmana!"
काकाश्येनास्तथागृध्रानीचैःपरिपतन्तिच ।

शिवाश्चाप्यशिवावाचःप्रवदन्तिमहास्वनाः ।।6.41.20।।


काकाः crows, श्येनाः hawks, तथा so also, गृध्राः vultures, नीचैः lowly, परिपतन्तिच joining, महास्वनाः in loud tone, शिवाश्च jackals, अशिवाश्च inauspicious, अशुभाः not good, वाचः sounds, प्रवदन्ति making.

"The crows, hawks and also vultures are joining lowly animals like jackals and making loud noises which is inauspicious and not good."
क्षिप्रमद्यदुराधर्षांलङ्कांरावणपालिताम् ।

अभियामजवेनैवसर्वतोहरिभिर्वृताः ।।6.41.21।।


हरिभिः Vanaras, वृताः accompanied by, अद्य now, क्षिप्रम् immediately, दुराधर्षम् difficult to attack, रावणपालिताम् ruled by Ravana, लङ्काम् Lanka, सर्वतः all, जवेनैव with good speed, अभियाम march forward.

शैलैःशूलैश्चखडगैश्चविमुक्स्सैःकपिराक्षसैः ।

भविष्यत्यावृताभूमिर्मांसशोणितकर्दमा ।।6.41.22।।


कपिराक्षसैः by Vanaras and Rakshasas, विमुक्स्सैः hurled, शैलैः rocks, शूलैश्च tridents, खडगैश्च swords, भूमिः the earth, आवृता covered, मांसशोणितकर्दमा with flesh and blood, भविष्यति will remain.

"The land will remain covered by rocks, tridents, swords hurled by the Vanaras and Rakshasas and with flesh and blood."
इत्येवंतुवदवनीर्वोलक्ष्मणंलक्ष्मणाग्रजः ।

तस्मादवातरच्छीघ्रंपर्वताग्रान्महाबलः ।।6.41.23।।


वीरः hero, महाबलः mighty, लक्ष्मणाग्रजः Lakshmana's elder brother, इत्येवम् in this manner, लक्ष्मणम् to Lakshmana, वदन् said, तस्मात् from there, पर्वताग्रात् peak of the mountain, शीघ्रम् without delay, अवातरत् descended.

Mighty hero Rama, (the elder brother of Lakshmana) said to Lakshmana in this manner (as described earlier) and descended from the peak of the mountain without delay.
अवतीर्यचधर्मात्मातस्माच्छैलात्सराघवः ।

परैःपरमदुर्धर्षंददर्शबलमात्मनः ।।6.41.24।।


धर्मात्माच righteous, सःराघवः that Raghava, तस्मात् शैलात् from the mountain, अवतीर्य climbing down, परैः foes, परमदुर्धर्षम् very difficult to assail, आत्मनः in the mind, बलम् army strength, ददर्श reviewed.

Climbing down the mountain, the righteous Rama reviewed in his mind the strength of his army and the enemy which is difficult to assail.
सन्नह्यतुससुग्रीवःकपिराजबलंमहत् ।

कालज्ञोराघवःकालेसंयुगायाभ्यचोदयत् ।।6.41.25।।


ससुग्रीवः Sugriva, कालज्ञः knower of when to do, राघवः Raghava, महत् great, कपिराजबलम् army of Vanaras, सन्नह्य ready, काले time, संयुगाय motivated, अभ्यचोदयत् ordered.

Raghava, who is knowledgeable of when to do what, motivated the army of Vanaras and Sugriva and ordered.
ततःकालेमहाबाहुर्बलेनमहतावृतः ।

प्रस्थितःपुरतोधवनीलङ्कामभिमुखःपुरीम् ।।6.41.26।।


ततः then, महाबाहुः broad shouldered, महता great, बलेन army, वृतः surrounded by, पुरतः in front, धवनी early morning, काले time, लङ्कांपुरीं Lanka, अभिमुखः towards, प्रस्थितः proceeded.

Surrounded by a large army in front, the broad shouldered Rama proceeded towards Lanka.
तंविभीषणसुग्रीवौहनूमाञ्जाम्बवान्नळ ।

ऋक्षराजस्तथानीलोलक्ष्मणश्चान्वयुस्तदा ।।6.41.27।।


तदा then, विभीषणसुग्रीवौ Vibheeshana and Sugriva, हनुमान् Hanuman, ऋक्षराजः king of Bears, जाम्बवान् Jambavan, नलः Nala, तथा in the same way, नीलः Neela, लक्ष्मणश्च and Lakshmana, तम् them, अन्वयुः followed.

Then Vibheeshana, Sugriva, Hanuman, Jambavan, Nala, Neela in the same way Lakshmana followed.
ततःपशचात्सुमहतीपृतनर् क्षवनौकसाम् ।

प्रच्छाद्यमहतींभूमिमनुयातिस्मराघवम् ।।6.41.28।।


ततः then, ऋक्षवनौकसाम् bears and monkeys, महती great, पृतना land महतीम् all over, भूमिम् land, प्रच्छाद्य covering, राघवम् Rama, अनुयातिस्म followed पशचात्सु behind.

Then the bears, monkeys, covering all over the land went behind Rama.
शैलशृङ्गाणिशतशःप्रवृद्धांश्चमहीरुहान् ।

जगृहुःकुञ्जरप्रख्यावानराःपरवारणाः ।।6.41.29।।


परवारणाः capable of warding off the enemy, कुञ्जरप्रख्याः whose body were the size of elephants, वानराः monkeys, शैलशृङ्गाणि mountain peaks, प्रवृद्धान् fully grown, शतशः in hundreds, महीरुहान् huge trees, जगृहुः bore in their hands.

The monkeys who were of the size of elephants capable of warding off the enemy, bore huge grown up trees in their hands and went.
तौत्वदीर्घेणकालेनभ्रातरौरामलक्ष्मणौ ।

रावणस्यपुरींलङ्कामसेदतुररिन्दमौ ।।6.41.30।।


अरिन्दमौ tamers of foes, भ्रातरौ the two brothers, रामलक्ष्मणौ Rama and Lakshmana, अदीर्घेण in a short, कालेन time, रावणस्य Ravana's, पुरीम् city, लङ्काम् of Lanka, आसेदतुः reached.

In a short while the two brothers Rama and Lakshmana, tamers of foes reached the city of Lanka.
पताकामालिनींरम्यामुद्यानवनशोभिताम् ।

चित्रवप्रासुदुष्प्रापमुच्चैःप्राकारतोरणाम् ।।6.41.31।।

तांसुरैरपिदुर्धर्षांरामवाक्यप्रचोदिताः ।

यथानिदेशंसम्पीड्यन्यविशन्तवनौकसः ।।6.41.32।।


रामवाक्यप्रचोदिताः commanded by Rama's words, वनौकसः gardens, पताकामालिनीम् decorated with flags, रम्याम् beautiful to look at, उद्यानवनशोभिताम् embellished with gardens, चित्रवस्राम् wonderful, सुदुष्प्रापाम् defensive walls, उच्चैः tall प्राकारतोरणाम् archways of boundary, सुरैरपि even for Devatas, दुर्धर्षाम् difficult to access, ताम् they, यथानिदेशम् as ordained, सम्पीड्य remaining, न्यविशन्त entered.

Commanded by Rama's words the Vanaras remaining in their positions as ordained, entered the wonderful Lanka, which was decorated with flags, embellished with gardens. The defensive walls and arches of the boundary of Lanka were difficult to access even for Devatas.
लङ्कायास्तूत्तरंद्वारंशैलशृङ्गमिवोन्नतम् ।

रामःसहानुजोधन्वीजुगोपचरुरोधच ।।6.41.33।।


सहानुजः accompanied by his brother, रामः Rama, धन्वी armed with bow, लङ्कायाः into Lanka, शैलशृङ्गमिवोन्नतम् like a lofty mountain peak, तम् that, उत्तरद्वारम् northern gate, जुगोप blocked, रुरोधच protected.

Accompanied by his brother Lakshmana, Rama, armed with bow, blocked the northern gate of Lanka which was like a lofty mountain peak and protected.
लङ्कामुपनिविष्टस्तुरामोदशरथात्मजः ।

लक्ष्मणानुचरोवीरःपुरींरावणपालिताम् ।।6.41.34।।

उत्तरद्वारमासाद्ययत्रतिष्ठतिरावणः ।

नान्योरामाद्धितद् द्वारंसमर्थःपरिरक्षितुम् ।।6.41.35।।

सायुथैराक्षसैर्भीमैरभिगुप्तंसमन्ततः ।

लघूनांत्रासजननंपाताळमिवदानवैः ।।6.41.36।।


दशरथात्मजः Dasaratha's son, लक्ष्मणानुचरः follower Lakshmana, वीरः heroic, रामः Rama, रावणः Ravana, यत्र there, तिष्ठति settled, उत्तरद्वारम् at northern gate, आसाद्य having reached, रावणपालिताम् ruled by Ravana, तम् that, वरुणेन by Varuna, सागरम् इव like an ocean, भीमम् frightening, सायुधैः guarded by,भीमैः terrific, राक्षसैः Rakshasa, समन्ततः all over, अभिगुप्तम् secretly hidden, दानवैः Rakshasas, पाताळमिव like subterranean, लघूनाम् small pieces, त्रासजननम् numerous, तत् द्वारम् that gateway, परिरक्षितुम् highly protected, रामात् by Rama, अन्यः other than, नसमर्थःहि not possible.

(Dasaratha's son) Rama who had Lakshmana as follower reached the northern gate protected by Ravana. Just as the ocean is guarded by Varuna, it was guarded by terrific Rakshasas, who were secretly hiding all over like the Rakshasas in the subterranean region with small amounts of numerous armours for protection. It was not possible for anyone other than Rama to enter.
विन्यस्तानिचयोधानांबहूनिविविधानिच ।

ददर्शाऽयुधजालानितत्रैवकवचानिच ।।6.41.37।।


योधानाम् for the combatants of war, विन्यस्तानि of every kind, बहूनि numerous, विविधानिच and different kind, आयुधजालानि weapons, तथैव so also, कवचानिच and shields, ददर्श saw.

Rama Saw there, numerous weapons of every kind so also shields for the combatants of war.
पूर्वंतुद्वारमासाद्यनीलोहरिचमूपतिः ।

अतिष्ठत्सहमैन्देनद्विविदेनचवीर्यवान् ।।6.41.38।।


हरिचमूपतिः commander of the army of monkeys, वीर्यवान् valiant one, नीलः Neela, मैन्देन Mainda सह and also, द्विविदेनचसह Dwivida also, पूर्वंद्वारम् east gate, आसाद्य reached, अतिष्ठत् remained there.

Neela the commanderinchief of the army of monkeys, a valiant one, also Dwivida, and Mainda reached the east gate and remained there.
अङ्गदोदक्षिणद्वारंजग्राहसुमहाबलः ।

ऋषभेणगवाक्षेणगजेनगवयेनच ।।6.41.39।।


सुमहाबलः of great prowess, अङ्गदः Angada, ऋषभेण with Rshaba, गवाक्षेण and Gavaksha, गजेन Gaja, गवयेनच and Gavaya, दक्षिणद्वारम् south gate, जग्राह reached.

Angada endowed with great prowess along with Rshaba, Gavaksha, Gaja, and Gavaya reached the south gate.
हनुमान् पश्चिमद्वारंररक्षबलवान्कपिः ।

प्रमाथिप्रषुभ्यांचवीरैरन्यैश्चसङ्गतः ।।6.41.40।।


बलवान् mighty, कपिः monkey, हनुमान् Hanuman, प्रमाथिप्रषुभ्यांच Pramati and Praghasa, अन्यैः and others, वीरैश्च heroes, सङ्गतः united with, पश्चिमद्वारम् west gate, ररक्ष protected.

Mighty monkey Hanuman united with heroes Pramati and Praghasa and others protected the west gate.
मध्यमेचस्वयंगुल्मेसुग्रीवस्समतिष्ठत ।

सहसर्वैर्हरिश्रेष्ठैस्सुपर्णश्वसनोपमैः ।।6.41.41।।


सुग्रीवः Sugriva, सर्वैः all, सुपर्णश्वसनोपमैः equal to Garuda of beautiful wings endowed with wind speed, हरिश्रेष्ठैः chief and best of monkey army, स्वयम् himself, मध्यमे middle, गुल्मे post, समतिष्ठत remained.

Sugriva chief of all army and best of the monkey army who was equal to Garuda of beautiful wings, endowed with wind speed remained in the middle (of north and west) post.
वानराणांतुषटित्रंशत्कोट्यःप्रख्यातयूथपाः ।

निपीड्योपनिविष्टाश्चसुग्रीवोयत्रवानरः ।।6.41.42।।


प्रख्यातयूथपाः renowned generals, वानराणाम् of the Vanaras, षटित्रंशत्कोट्यः thirty six crores, वानरः Vanara, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, यत्र there, निपीड्य stood, उपनिविष्टाः camped.

Renowned generals of the Vanara army and thirtysix crores of Vanaras stood there camping.
शासनेनतुरामस्यलक्ष्मणस्सविभीषणः ।

द्वारेद्वारेहरीणांतुकोटिंकोटिंन्यवेशयेत् ।।6.41.43।।


सविभीषणः Vibheeshana, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, रामस्य by Rama's, शासनेन command, द्वारेद्वारे crores and crores, हरीणाम् Vanaras, कोटिंकोटिम् crores and crores, न्यवेशयत् posted as per need.

By the command of Rama, Vibheeshana accompanied by Lakshmana posted crores and crores of Vanaras there.
पश्चिमेनतुरामस्यसुषेणःसहजाम्बवान् ।।6.41.44।।

आदूरान्मध्यमेगुल्मेतस्थौबहुबलानुगः ।


सुषेणः Sushena, सहजाम्बवान् along with Jambavan, बहुबलानुगः with large army, रामस्य by Rama, पश्चिमेन at the west, अदूरात् not far from, मध्यमेगुल्मे in the centre, तस्थौ at the back.

Sushena along with Jambavan and a large army of Vanaras were posted in the centre not far from Rama at the west by Rama's order.
तेतुवानरशार्धूलाःशार्दूलाइवदंष्ट्रिणः ।।6.41.45।।

गृहीत्वाद्रुमशैलाग्रान्हृष्टायुद्धायतस्थिरे ।


शार्दूलाःइव resembling tiger, दंष्ट्रिणः endowed with sharp teeth, ते they, वानरशार्दूलाः tigers among Vanaras, हृष्टाः joyfully, द्रुमशैलाग्रान् trees and peaks of mountains, गृहीत्वा holding, युद्धाय to combat, तस्थिरे waited.

Vanaras who resembled tigers, endowed with sharp teeth joyfully stood there holding trees and peaks of mountain waiting to combat.
सर्वेविकृतलाङ्गूलास्सर्वेदंष्ट्रानखायुधा:।। 6.41.46।।

सर्वेविकृतचित्राङ्गास्सर्वेचविकृताननाः ।


सर्वे all, विकृतालाङ्गूलाः unusually lifted up, सर्वे all, दंष्ट्रानखायुधा: had their teeth and nails as weapons, सर्वे all, विकृतचित्राङ्गाः unnatural faces, सर्वेच and all, विकृताननाः distorted eyes.

All had their tails lifted unusually, had their nails and teeth sharp as weapons, some had unnatural face, and all of them had distorted eyes (as in fury).
दशनागबलाःकेचित्केचिद्धशगुणोत्तराः ।।6.41.47।।

केचिन्नागसहस्रस्यबभूवुस्तुल्यविक्रमाः ।


केचित् a few, दशनागबलाः strength of ten elephants, केचित् some, दशगुणोत्तराः ten times more strong than others, केचित् a few, नागसहस्रस्य equal to thousand elephants in strength, तुल्यविक्रमाः endowed with great strength, बभूवुः were.

A few of them were having the strength of ten elephants, some had ten times more than others, and a few were endowed with great strength equal to thousand elephants.
सन्तिचौघबलाःकेचित्केचिच्छतगुणोत्तराः ।।6.41.48।।

अप्रमेयबलाश्चान्येतत्रासन्हरियूथपाः

केचित् few, ओघबलाः strength of an ogha, केचित् some, शतगुणोत्तराः hundred times more, सन्ति still, तत्र there, अन्ये others, हरियूथपाः monkey commanders, अप्रमेयाबलाश्च immeasurable strength, आसन् possessed.

Few monkeys had strength of an ogha, some had a hundred times more, and the monkey commanders possessed immeasurable strength.
अद्भुतश्चविचित्रश्चतेषामासीत्समागमः ।।6.41.49।।

तत्रवानरसैन्यानांशलभानामिवोद्यमः ।


तत्र there, शलभानाम् in that place, उद्यमःइव like locusts, तेषाम् they, वानरसैन्यानाम् Vanara army, समागमः gathered, अद्भुतश्च amazing, विचित्रश्च astonishing, आसीत् seemed.

There it seemed as if a flight of locusts had gathered, with monkey army gathered there. It was amazing and astonishing.
प्रतिपूर्णमिवाकाशंसञ्छन्नेवचमेदिनी ।।6.41.50।।

लङ्कापुमनिविष्टैश्चसम्पतद्भिश्चवानरैः ।


लङ्काम् in Lanka, उपनिविष्टैः settled, वानरैः with Vanara, सम्पतद्भिश्च already staying, आकाशम् the sky, प्रतिपूर्णमिव fully around like, मेदिनीच on the land, सञ्छन्ने covering.

Vanaras settled in such a way all around Lanka completely covering the land with those already at Lanka.
शतंशतसहस्राणांपृथगृक्षवनौकसाम् ।।6.41.51।।

लङ्काद्वाराङयुपाजग्मुरन्येयोद्धुंसमन्ततः ।


ऋक्षवनौकसाम् bears and monkeys, शतसहस्राणाम् a hundred thousand, शतम् a hundred, पृथक् several, अन्ये others, समन्ततः gathered, लङ्काद्वाराणि at the gates of Lanka, योद्धुम् to fight, उपाजग्मुः proceeded.

A hundred thousand bars and monkeys and several others already gathered at the gates of Lanka to fight proceeded.
आवृतस्सगिरिस्सर्वैस्सैस्समन्तात् प्लवङ्गमैः ।।6.41.52।।

अयुतानांसहस्रंचपुरींतामभ्यवर्तत ।


सःगिरिः that mountain, समन्तात् all over, तैः those, प्लवङ्गमैः monkeys, आवृतः surrounded, अयुतानाम् boundary, सहस्रम् all over, ताम् them, पुरीम् city, अभ्यवर्तत to collect information.

All over the mountain the monkeys surrounded the boundary wall of Lanka city to collect information.
वानरैर्बलवद्भिश्चबभूवद्रुमपाणिभिः ।।6.41.53।।

सम्वृतासर्वतोलङ्कादुष्प्रवेशाऽपिवायुना ।


द्रुमपाणिभिः with uprooted trees, बलवद्भिः might, वानरैः Vanaras, सर्वतः everywhere, सम्वृता occupied, लङ्का Lanka, वायुनापि even for wind, दुष्प्रवेशा difficult to enter, बभूव appeared.

Mighty Vanaras holding uprooted trees occupied everywhere and it seemed difficult for even wind to enter Lanka.
राक्षसाविस्मयंजग्मुःसहसाऽभिनिपीडिताः ।।6.41.54।।

वानरैर्मेघसङ्काशैश्शक्रतुल्यपराक्रमैः ।


मेघसङ्काशैः clouds, शक्रतुल्यपराक्रमैः Indra of great valour, वानरैः Vanaras, सहसा equalled, अभिनिपीडिताः caught, राक्षसाः Rakshasa, विस्मयम् wondered, जग्मुः gave way.

Caught by Vanaras like clouds and equalled Indra in valour gave way to wonder for the Rakshasas.
महान् शब्दोऽभवत्तत्रबलौघस्याभिवर्ततः ।।6.41.55।।

सागरस्येवभिन्नस्ययथास्यात्सलिलस्वनः ।


तत्र thereafter, भिन्नस्य divisions, सागरस्येव like the ocean, बलौघस्य on the mountain peak, अभिवर्ततः appeared, सलिलस्वनः roaring sound of water, यथा like that, स्यात् , महान् great, शब्दः sound, अभवत् appeared.

Thereafter with the divisions of the Vanara army moving like the ocean on the mountain peak, appeared like the roaring sound of water in the ocean moving out of boundary.
तेनशब्देनमहतासप्राकारासतोरणा ।।6.41.56।।

लङ्काप्रचलितासर्वासशैलवनकानना ।


महता great, तेनशब्देन by that sound, सप्राकारा that boundary, सतोरणा the archways, सशैलवनकानना mountains forests, सर्वा all, लङ्का Lanka, प्रचलिता shook violently.

By the great sound the boundary, the archways and the mountains and forests shook violently.
रामलक्ष्मणगुप्तासासुग्रीवेणचवाहिनी ।।6.41.57।।

बभूवदुर्धर्षतरासर्वैरपिसुरासुरैः ।


रामलक्ष्मणगुप्ता protected by Rama and Lakshmana, सुग्रीवेणच and Sugriva, सा that, हरिवाहिनी monkey army, सर्वैः all, सुरासुरैरपि Rakshasas and Devatas, दुर्धर्षतरा highly difficult, बभूव became.

Protected by Rama and Lakshmana and Sugriva that an army of monkeys became difficult to assail even for Rakshasas and Devatas.
राघवःसन्निवेश्यैवंस्वसैन्यंरक्षसांवधे ।।6.41.58।।

सम्मन्त्ऱ्यमन्त्रिभिस्सार्थंनिश्चित्यचपुनःपुनः ।

आनन्तर्यमभिप्रेप्सुःक्रमयोगार्थतत्त्ववित् ।।6.41.59।।

विभीषणस्यानुमतेराजधर्ममनुस्मरन् ।

अङ्गदंवालितनयंसमाहूयेदमब्रवीत् ।।6.41.60।।


क्रमयोगार्थतत्त्ववित् deliberating the action repeatedly, राघवः Raghava, स्वम् himself, सैन्यम् army, रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, वधे to kill, एवम् in the same way, संनिवेश्य gathering together, मन्त्रिभिः even ministers सार्थम् all of them, पुनःपुनः again and again, सम्मन्त्ऱ्य discussing, निश्चित्य decision taken, अनन्तर्यम् later, अभिप्रेप्सुः recalling राजधर्मम् king's duty, अनुस्मरन् calling, विभीषणस्य with Vibhishana, अनुमते per mission, वालितनयम् Vali's son, अङ्गदम् Angada, समाहूय summoning, इदम् these words, अब्रवीत् spoke.

Deliberating on the action to be taken to kill the Rakshasas, Raghava himself called the army and gathered them and the ministers all of them again and again discussed and took the decision. Later recalling the king's duty with Vibheeshana, summoned Vali's son Angada and spoke these words.
गत्वासौम्य दशग्रीवंब्रूहिमद्वचनात्कपे ।

लङ्घयित्वापुरींलङ्कांभयंत्यक्त्वागतव्यधः ।।6.41.61।।

भ्रष्टश्रीक गतैश्वर्य मुमूर्षो नष्टचेतनः ।


सौम्य noble, कपे monkey, लङ्कांपुरीम् Lanka's, लङ्घयित्वा crossing over, भयम् fear, त्यक्त्वा giving up, गतव्यधः past difficulty, भ्रष्टश्रीक lost sovereignty, गतैश्वर्य fallen out of past fortune, मुमूर्षोनष्टचेतनः lost his sense, दशग्रीवम् tenheaded king, गत्वा gone, मद्वचनात् proudly, ब्रूहि said.

"O noble Hanuman crossing over Lanka without fear, giving up the difficulties experienced earlier we reached. Admonish the tenheaded king who has lost senses, his past fortune and sovereignty."
ऋषीणांदेवतानांचगन्धर्वाप्सरसांतथा ।।6.41.62।।

नागानामथयक्षाणांराज्ञांचरजनीचर ।

यच्चपापंकृतंमोहादवलिप्तेनराक्षस ।।6.41.63।।

नूनंतेविगतोदर्पःस्वयम्भुवरदानजः ।

तस्यपापस्यसम्प्राप्ताव्युष्टिरद्यदुरसदा ।।6.41.64।।


रजनीचर night ranger, ऋषीणाम् for the sages, देवतानाम् Devatas, तथा so also, गन्धर्वाप्सरसाम् Gandharvas and celestial beauties, नागानाम् Nagas, अथ and, यक्षाणाम् Yakshas, राज्ञांच and kings, मोहात् because of delusion, अवलिप्तेन conceited, यत् that, पापम् sin, कृतम् done, तस्य by him, पापस्य sin's, दुरासदा dangerous to approach, व्युष्टिः boon, अद्य obtained, सम्प्राप्ता begotten, नूनम् surely, ते those, स्वयम्भुवरदानजः granted by self born creator, दर्पः pride, विगतः has gone.

"O night ranger! the time has come for punishment for the sins committed by you to the sages, Devatas, so also to Gandharvas, celestial beauties, Nagas, Yakshas and the kings because of your delusion in conceit. Surely your pride about the boons begotten from the selfborn creator will be gone, said Rama.
तस्यदण्डधरस्तेऽहंदाराहरकर्शितः ।

दण्डंधारयमाणस्तुलङ्काद्वारेव्यवस्थितः ।।6.41.65।।


दाराहरणकर्शितः one who has abducted my wife, अहम् I am, तस्य your, ते to you, दण्डधरः holding rod दण्डम् punish, धारयामाणः chastiser, लङ्काद्वारे o king of Lanka, व्यवस्थितः taken position.

"You, who have abducted my wife, I will punish you with a rod of punishment. I am your chastiser, O king of Lanka I have taken position."
पदवींदेवतानांचमहर्षीणांचराक्षस ।

राजर्षीणांचसर्वेषांगमिष्यसिमयाहतः ।।6.41.66।।


राक्षस Rakshasa, मया by me, हतः killed, देवतानांच even Devatas, महर्षीणांच even sages, सर्वेषाम् all of them, राजर्षीणांच royal sages, पदवीम् position, गमिष्यसि lost.

"O Rakshasa! Even Devatas, sages and even royal sages have also lost their lives, killed by me."
बलेनयेनवैसीतांमाययाराक्षसाधम ।

यामतिक्रामयित्वात्वंहृतवांस्तद्विदर्शय ।।6.41.67।।


राक्षसाधम lowly Rakshasa, त्वम् your, येन that, बलेन power, मायया to me, माम् me, अतिक्रामयित्वा by deceiving me, सीताम् Sita, हृतवान् took away, तत् that, द्विदर्शय display it now.

"O lowly Rakshasa! By deceiving me you took away Sita. Display that strength now."
अराक्षसमिमंलोकंकर्तास्मिनिशितैःशरैः ।

नचेच्छरणमभ्येषितामादायतुमैथिलीम् ।।6.41.68।।


ताम् her, मैथिलीम् Mythili, आदाय seek, शरणम् my protection, नअभ्येषियदि if not take, निशितैः sharp, शरैः arrows, इमम् this, लोकम् world, अराक्षसम् devoid of Rakshasas, कर्तास्मि will make.

"If you do not seek my protection I will devoid this world of Rakshasas with my sharp arrows."
धर्मात्माराक्षसश्रेष्ठःसम्प्राप्तोऽयंविभीषणः ।

लङ्कैश्वर्यंधृवंश्रीमानयंप्राप्नोत्यकण्डकम् ।।6.41.69।।


धर्मात्मा righteous, राक्षसश्रेष्ठः best of Rakshasas, अयंविभीषणः this Vibhishana, सम्प्राप्तः having got, श्रीमान् fortunate, अकण्डकम् glorious, धृवम् undoubtedly, लङ्कैश्वर्यम् kingdom of Lanka, प्राप्नोति will get.

"This Vibheeshana, the best of Rakshasas will be glorious and fortunate undoubtedly having got the kingdom of Lanka."
नहिराज्यमधर्मेणभोक्तुंक्षणमपित्वया ।

शक्यंमूर्खसहायेनपापेनाविदितात्मना ।।6.41.70।।


मूर्खसहायेन with the help of foolish mates, पापेन a sinner, अविदितात्मना not aware of himself, त्वया by you, क्षणमपि even a moment, राज्यम् kingdom, अथर्मेण unrighteousness, भोक्तुम् to enjoy, नशक्यंहि not possible.

"One who is not aware of himself, an unrighteous sinner ruling with foolish mates cannot enjoy the kingdom even for a moment."
युध्यस्ववाधृतिंकृत्वाशौर्यमालम्ब्यराक्षस ।

मच्छरैस्त्वंरणेशान्तस्ततःशान्तोभविष्यसि ।।6.41.71।।


राक्षस Rakshasa, वा or, धृतिम् fortitude, कृत्वा resorting to, शौर्यम् valour, आलम्ब्य embracing, युध्यस्व gallantry, त्वम् you, रणे in war, मच्छरैः my arrows, शान्तः peace, ततः then, भविष्यसि will obtain.

"O Rakshasa! You are resorting to fortitude and valour and embracing gallantry in war. By my arrows you will obtain peace (in death)."
यद्वाविशसिलोकांस्त्रीन्पक्षीभूतोमनोजवः ।

ममचक्षुष्पथंप्राप्यनजीवन्प्रतियास्यसि ।।6.41.72।।


मनोजवः one who has no control over mind, मम my, चक्षुःपथम् range of my eyesight, प्राप्य having come in, पक्षी bird, भूत्वा range, त्रीन् three, लोकान् worlds, अविशसि entering, जीवन् with life, नप्रतियास्यसि not go alive again.

"O Ravana! You have no control over your mind, and if you come in the range of my eyesight and enter the three worlds also you will not go alive again."
ब्रवीमित्वांहितंवाक्यंक्रियतामौर्ध्वदैहिकम् ।

सुदृष्टाक्रियतांलङ्काजीवितंतेमयिस्थितम् ।।6.41.73।।


त्वाम् these, हितम् well meaning, वाक्यम् words, ब्रवीमि having spoken, और्ध्वहिकम् obsequies, क्रियताम् to do, लङ्का in Lanka, सुदृष्टा to do the last rites, क्रियताम् do तेजीवितम् for your life, मयि I, स्थितम् will do.

Having addressed it in well meaning words, Rama said 'I will do you obsequies as no one will be left in Lanka to do your last rites'.
इत्युक्तःसतुतारेयोरामेणाक्लिष्टकर्मणा ।

जगामाकाशामाविश्यमूर्तिमानिवहव्यवाट् ।।6.41.74।।


अक्लिष्टकर्मणा unwearied in action, रामेण by Rama, इति this way, उक्तः spoken, तारेयः Tara's son, मूर्तिमान् resembled, हव्यवाट् इव like fire, आकाशम् sky, आविश्य flew, जगाम went.

Rama having spoken that way, Tara's son, Angada, who was like fire god, who was unwearied in action flew to the sky.
सोऽतिपत्यमुहूर्तेनश्रीमान्रावणमन्दिरम् ।

ददर्शासीनमव्यग्रंरावणंसचिवैःसह ।।6.41.75।।


श्रीमान् prosperous, सः that he, मुहूर्तेन in a moment, रावणमन्दिरम् Ravana's palace, अतिपत्य having landed, सचिवैःसह with his ministers, आसीनम् seated, रावणम् Ravana, अव्यग्रम् tiger, ददर्श saw.

Angada landed on Ravana's palace in a moment and saw the tiger like prosperous Ravana seated with his ministers.
ततस्तस्य I विदूरेणनिपत्यसहरिपुङ्गवः ।

दीप्ताग्निसदृशस्तस्थावङ्गदःकनकाङ्गदः ।।6.41.76।।


ततः thereafter, सहरिपुङ्गवः that leader of monkeys, दीप्ताग्निसदृशः blazing like fire, कनकाङ्गदः adorned with golden armlets, अङ्गदः Angada, तस्य his, अविदूरेण at a short distance, निपत्य landed, तस्थौ stood.

Thereafter, the leader of the monkeys, Angada adorned with golden armlets stood like a blazing fire at a distance.
तद्रामवचनंसर्वमन्यूनाधिकमुत्तमम् ।

सामात्यंश्रावयामासनिवेद्यात्मानमात्मना ।।6.41.77।।


आत्मानम् I am, आत्मना myself, निवेद्य known, तत् that, उत्तमम् best, सर्वम् all, रामवचनम् Rama's words, अन्यूनाधिकम् without adding or deleting, सामात्यम् completely, श्रावयामास you may listen.

"I made known the words of Rama completely without adding or deleting. You may listen."
दूतोऽहंकोशलेन्द्रस्यरामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः ।

वालिपुत्रोऽङ्गदोनामयदितेश्रोत्रमागतः ।।6.41.78।।


वालिपुत्रः Vali's son, अङ्गदोनाम by name Angada, अहम् I am, कोशलेन्द्रस्य Kosala King's, अक्लिष्टकर्मणः unwearied in action, रामस्य Rama's, दूतः envoy, ते to you, श्रोत्रम् land, आगतःयदि have landed.

"I am the son of Vali,by name Angada,an envoy of Rama ,the king of Kosala of unwearied action. You may know that I have landed"
अहत्वांराघवोरामःकौसल्यानन्दवर्धनः ।

निष्पत्यप्रतियुध्यस्वनृशंस पुरुषोभव ।।6.41.79।।


राघवः Raghava, कौसल्यानन्दवर्धनः enhancer of happiness of Kausalya (Rama), रामः Rama, त्वाम् to you, आह you, नृशंस ruthless, निष्पत्य sallying forth, युध्यस्व in combat, पुरुषः man, भव to me.

"Raghava, the enhancer of the happiness of Kausalya speaks to you. Ruthless Rakshasa! Sallying forth, get ready for combat."
हन्तास्मित्वांसहामात्यंसपुत्रज्ञातिबान्धवम् ।

निरुद्विग्नास्त्रयोलोकाभविष्यन्तिहतेत्वयि ।।6.41.80।।


सहामात्यम् along with ministers, सपुत्रज्ञातिबान्धवम् sons, relatives and followers, त्वाम् you, हन्तास्मि been killed, त्वयि of you, हते killed, त्रयः three, लोकाः worlds, निरुद्विग्नाः rid of fear, भविष्यन्ति will become.

"You and your son's relatives and followers being killed (by me) the three worlds will be rid of fear of you."
देवदानवयक्षाणांगन्धर्वोरगरक्षसाम् ।

शत्रुमद्योद्धरिष्यामित्वामृषीणांचकण्टकम् ।।6.41.81।।


देवदानवयक्षाणाम् gods, Danavas and Yakshas, गन्धर्वोरगरक्षसाम् Gandharvas, Nagas, शत्रुम् enemy, ऋषीणाम् for the sages, कण्टकंच thorn in the neck, त्वाम् you, अद्य being, उद्धरिष्यामि uproot you.

"You are an enemy of the gods, Danavas and Yakshas, Gandharvas and Nagas and being a thorn in the neck of sages, I will uproot you from here."
विभीषणस्यचैश्वर्यंभविष्यतिहतेत्वयि ।

नचेत्सत्कृत्यवैदेहींप्रणिपत्यप्रदास्यसि ।।6.41.82।।


प्रणिपत्य bowing down, वैदेहीम् Vaidehi, सत्कृत्य respectfully, नप्रदास्यसिचेत् not return back, त्वयि by you, हते being killed, ऐश्वर्यम् fortune, विभीषणस्य to Vibhishana, भविष्यति will be getting.

"Unless you return back Vaidehi respectfully, bowing down to me you will be killed and Vibheeshana will get the fortune."
इत्येवंपरुषंवाक्यंब्रुवाणेहरिपुङ्गवे ।

अमर्षवशमापन्नोनिशाचरगणेश्वरः ।।6.41.83।।


हरिपुङ्गवे leader of monkey army, इत्येवम् in this way, परुषम् harsh, वाक्यम् words, ब्रुवाणे having spoken, निशाचरगणेश्वरः ruler of night rangers, अमर्षवशम् by fury, आपन्नः overtaken.

The leader of the monkeys having spoken in that manner, Ravana the ruler of night rangers was overtaken by fury.
ततस्सरोषताम्राक्षश्शशापसचिवांन्नोस्तदा ।

गृह्यतामेषदुर्मेधावध्यतामितिचासकृत् ।।6.41.84।।


ततः thereafter, रोषम् shaken by fury, आपन्नः overtaken, सः he, तदा then, एष in this way, सचिवान् ministers, असकृत् repeatedly, शशास commanded, दुर्मेधाः evil minded, गृह्यताम् seize him, वध्यताम् kill him.

Thereafter, Ravana who was shaken by fury repeatedly commanded his ministers and said 'Let this evil minded monkey be seized and killed'.
रावणस्यवच्शुत्वादीप्ताग्निसमतेजसा ।

जगृहुस्तंततोघोराश्चत्वारोरजनीचराः ।।6.41.85।।


ततः thereafter, घोराः terrific, चत्वारः four, रजनीचराः night rangers, रावणस्य of Ravana, वचः words, श्रुत्वा having heard, समतेजसा of equal brilliance, दीप्ताग्नि blazing like fire, तम् him, Angada, जगृहुः seized.

Thereafter, having heard the words of Ravana, the four Rakshasas seized Angada blazing in brilliance like fire.
ग्राहयामासतारेयस्स्वयमात्मनमात्मवान् ।

बलंदर्शयितुंवीरोयातुधानगणेतदा ।।6.41.86।।


तदा then, आत्मवान् himself, वीरः heroic, तारेयः son of Tara, यातुधानगणे in the presence of Rakshasa army, बलम् strength, दर्शयितुम् to exhibit, स्वयम् on his own, आत्मानम् by his, ग्राहयामास allowed to be caught.

Then Angada, the son of Tara, on his own wanting to exhibit his strength in the presence of the Rakshasa army allowed himself to be caught.
सतान्बाहुद्वयासक्तानादायपतगानिव ।

प्रासादंशैलसङ्कामुत्पपाताङ्गदस्तदा ।।6.41.87।।


तदा then, सःअङ्गदः that Angada, बाहुद्वयसक्तान् holding the arms, तान् from that, पतगानिव like birds, आदाय came, शैलसङ्काशम् which stood like a mountain peak, प्रासादम् palace, उत्पपात came down.

Then Angada holding the Rakshasas by his arms came down like birds on the roof of the palace which stood like a mountain.
तेन्तरिक्षाद्विनिर्धूतास्तस्यवेगेनराक्षसाः ।

भूमौनिपतिताःसर्वेराक्षसेन्द्रस्यपश्यतः ।।6.41.88।।


तेन by that, अन्तरिक्षात् from the sky, तस्य its, निर्धूता crushed, वेगेन speed, राक्षसेन्द्रस्य Rakshasa king's, तस्य from (the mountain), तत्र there, सर्वे all, भूमौ on the ground, निपतिताः fell.

Crushed by that speed of Angada coming down as if from the sky all the Rakshasas fell down on the ground while the Rakshasa king looked on.
ततःप्रासादशिखरंशैलशृङ्गमिवोन्नतम् ।

ददर्शराक्षसेन्द्रस्यवालिपुत्रःप्रतापवान् ।।6.41.89।।


ततः then, प्रतापवान् courageous, वालिपुत्रः Vali's son, राक्षसेन्द्रस्य at Ravana, शैलशृङ्गमिव like the peak of mountain, उन्नतम् high, प्रासादशिखरम् peak of the palace, ददर्श saw.

Then as the courageous Vali's son landed on the high peak of the palace which resembled a mountain peak, Ravana stood looking.
तत्पफालपदाक्रान्तंदशग्रीवस्यपश्यतः ।

पुराहिमवतश्शृङ्गंवज्रिणेवविदारितम् ।।6.41.90।।


पदाक्रान्तम् trampled by, पुरा earlier, वज्रिण Indra, विदारितम् broken, हिमवतःशृङ्गमिव Himalayan peak, दशग्रीवस्य Ravana's, पश्यतः as he was looking, तत्पफाल cleft

As Ravana was looking, Angada trampling his feet gave way to the palace just as Himalayan peak broke to hit Indra.
भङ् क्त्वाप्रासादशिखरंनामविश्राव्यचात्मनः ।

विनद्यसुमहानादमुत्पपातविहायसम् ।।6.41.91।।


प्रासादशिखरम् peak of the palace, भङ् क्त्वा hitting, आत्मनः his own, नाम name, विश्रान्य declaring, सुमहानादम् loud sound, विनद्य emitting, विहायसा into the sky, उत्पपात rose.

Hitting on the peak of the palace, Angada declaring his own name emitting loud sound rose up to the sky.
व्यथयन्राक्षसान्सर्वान्हर्षयंश्चापिवानरान् ।

सवानराणांमध्येतुरामपार्श्वमुपागतः ।।6.41.92।।


सः he, सर्वान् all, राक्षसान् Rakshasas, व्यथयन् causing pain, वानरान् Vanaras, हर्षयंश्चापि delighting, वानराणाम् to Vanaras, मध्ये midst, रामपार्श्वम् near Rama, उपागतः returned back.

Angada caused pain to the Rakshasas and delighted the monkeys and returned to the midst of Vanaras near Rama.
रावणस्तुपरंचक्रेक्रोधंप्रासादधर्षणात् ।

विनाशंचात्मनःपश्यन्निश्श्वासपरमोऽभवत् ।।6.41.93।।


रावणस्तु even Ravana, प्रासादधर्षणात् for shattering the palace, परम् very, क्रोधम् angry, चक्रे exhibiting, आत्मनः for him, विनाशम् destruction, पश्यन् seeing, निःश्वासपरमः sighing, अभवत् exhibited.

Ravana exhibiting extreme anger at the shattering of his palace and seeing his destruction started sighing heavily.
रामस्तुबहुभिर्हृष्टर्निनदद्भिःप्लवङ्गमैः ।

वृतोरिपुवधाकाङ्क्षीयुद्धायैवाभ्यवर्तत ।।6.41.94।।


रामस्तु On Rama's part, हृष्टैः delighted, विनदद्भिः roaring like a lion, बहुभिः many, प्लवङ्गमैः monkey groups, वृतः surrounded, रिपुवधाकाङ्क्षी desirous of destruction of enemy, युद्धायैव for war, अभ्यवर्तत waiting.

Delighted by the roaring sound of many monkeys Rama awaited surrounded by groups of monkeys desirous of starting war.
सुषेणस्तुमहावीर्योगिरिकूटोपमोहरिः ।

बहुभिःसम्वृतस्तत्रवानरैःकामरूपिभिः ।।6.41.95।।


महावीर्यः of great prowess, गिरिकूटोपमः resembling mountain, हरिः Monkey, सुषेणस्तु Sushena also, तत्र there, कामरूपिभिः who change their form according to their will, बहुभिः many, वानरैः Vanaras, सम्वृतः surrounded.

Sushena of great prowess, who resembled a mountain in form stood there surrounded by many Vanaras who could change their form at their will.
सचतुर्द्वाराणिसर्वाणिसुग्रीववचनात्कपिः ।

पर्यक्रामतदुर्धर्षोनक्षत्राणीवचन्द्रमाः ।।6.41.96।।


दुर्धर्षः one who is difficult to encounter, कपिः monkey, सुग्रीववचनात् by the command of Sugriva, चतुर्द्वाराणि the four gates, सर्वाणि all, चन्द्रमाः moon, नक्षत्राणीव stars, पर्यक्रामत moves around.

Sushena, a monkey who is difficult to encounter, went around all the four gates just like the moon goes around stars by the order of Sugriva.
तेषामक्षौहिणिशतंसमवेक्ष्यवनौकसाम् ।

लङ्कामुपनिविष्टानांसागरंचानिवर्तताम् ।।6.41.97।।

राक्षसाविस्मयंजग्मुस्त्रासंजग्मुस्तथापरे ।

अपरेसमरोध्धर्षाद्धर्षमेवप्रपेदिरे ।।6.41.98।।


लङ्काम् उपनिविष्टानाम् staying near Lanka, सागरंच extending beyond the ocean, अनिवर्तताम् spreading beyond, तेषाम् them, वनौकसाम् Vanara army, अक्षौहिणिशतम् a hundred Akshauhinis, समवेक्ष्य collected together, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, विस्मयम् wonder struck, जग्मुः feared, अपरे alarmed, समरे war, हर्षात् joyful, हर्षमेव joy alone, प्रपेदिरे exhibited.

Seeing the large army of a hundred Akshauhinis of monkeys staying near Lanka spreading beyond the sea waiting for war the Rakshasas were wonder struck, some feared, some were alarmed to witness the jubilant Vanaras who exhibited joy alone.
कृत्स्नंहिकपिभिर्व्याप्तंप्राकारपरिखान्तरम् ।

ददृशूराक्षसादीनाःप्राकारंनानरीकृतम् ।।6.41.99।।

हाहाकारंप्रकुर्वन्तिराक्षसाभयमोहिताः ।


राक्षसाः Rakshasa, दीनाः desperate, कपिभिः even monkeys, व्याप्तम् spread over, कृत्स्नम् dark, प्राकारपरिखान्तरम् entire area from the boundary and moat, नानरीकृतम् filled with monkeys, प्राकारम् boundary, ददृशुः saw, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, भयम् fear, आगताः reached, हाहाकारम् making noise, प्रकुर्वन्ति converted to defensive walls.

The Rakshasas were desperate to see the spread of monkeys over the entire area from the boundary to moat of Lanka. The way the space between was filled with Vanaras seemed as though the Vanaras converted into boundaries. Rakshasas were seen making a loud noise.
तस्मिन् महाभीषणकेप्रवृत्तेकोलाहलेराक्षसराजधान्याम् ।

प्रगृह्यरक्षांसिमहायुधानियुगान्तवाताइवसंविचेरुः ।।6.41.100।।


महाभीषणके frightening sound, तस्मिन् such, कोलाहले shouting, प्रवृत्ते advanced, राक्षसराजधान्याम् the kingdom of Rakshasas, रक्षांसि to protect, महायुधानि for great war, प्रगृह्य holding, युगान्तवाताःइव as if it is the end of universe, संविचेरुः advanced.

To protect the kingdom of Rakshasas, the Rakshasas holding weapons making frightening sounds and shouting, advanced for a great War. It seemed as though it was the end of the universe.
