Sloka & Translation

[Lakshmana communicates to Sri Rama about the killing of Indrajith. Sri Rama applauds Lakshmana. Sushena treats Lakshmana's wounds and relieves him.]

रुधिरक्लिन्नगात्रस्तुलक्ष्मणःशुभलक्षणः ।

बभूवहृष्टस्तंहत्वाशक्रजेतारमाहवे ।।6.92.1।।


रुधिरक्लिन्नगात्रः body smeared with blood, शुभलक्षणः auspicious marks, लक्ष्मणः Lakshmana, आहवे in battle, तम् him, शक्रजेतारम् one who won Indra, हत्वा killing, हृष्टः joyful, बभूव experienced

Body having auspicious marks, smeared with blood, Lakshmana experienced the joy of having won Indra in battle.
ततःसजाम्बवन्तंचहनूमन्तंचवीर्यवान् ।

संनिपत्यमहातेजास्तांश्चसर्वान्वनौकसः ।।6.92.2।।

आजगामततःशीघ्रंयत्रसुग्रीवराघवौ ।

विभीषणमवष्टभ्यहनूमन्तंचलक्ष्मणः ।।6.92.3।।


ततः then, वीर्यवान् valiant, महातेजाः mighty, सःलक्ष्मणः that Lakshmana, जाम्बवन्तम् Jambavantha, हनूमन्तं च and Hanumantha, सर्वान् all, तान् them, वनौकसः च Vanaras, संनिपत्य calling, ततः that, विभीषणम् Vibheeshana, हनूमन्तं च Hanuman, अवष्टभ्य following, सुग्रीवराघवौ Sugriva, Raghava यत्र there, शीघ्रम् quickly, आजगाम reached

Then Valiant and mighty Lakshmana called Jambavantha, Hanumantha, all the Vanaras, following Vibheeshana and Hanuman quickly reached Sugriva and Raghava.
ततोराममभिक्रम्यसौमित्रिरभिवाद्य च ।

तस्थौभ्रातृसमीपस्थःशक्रस्येन्द्रानुजोयथा ।।6.92.4।।


ततः thereafter, सौमित्रिःSaumihri, रामम् to Rama, अभिक्रम्य went close, अभिवाद्य च and offered his prayers, शक्रस्य Indra's, अनुजोयथा like his brother Upendra, भ्रातृसमीपस्थः close to his brother, तस्थौ stood

Thereafter Saumithri went close to Rama and offered prayers, like Indra's brother Upendra and stood close to his brother.
निष्टनन्निवचागत्यराघवायमहात्मने ।

आचचक्षेतदावीरोघोरमिन्द्रजितोवधम् ।।6.92.5।।


तदा then, वीरः heroic, आगत्य coming close, महात्मने great soul, राघवाय to Raghava, निष्टनन्निव being tired in, इन्द्रजितःIndrajith, घोरम् terrific, वधम् killed, आचचक्षे reported

Then heroic Lakshmana coming close to the great selfRaghava, in shaking tone (being tired) reported" Indrajith is killed."
रावणेस्तुशिरश्छिन्नंलक्ष्मणेनमहात्मना ।

न्यवेदयतरामायतदाहृष्टोविभीषणः ।।6.92.6।।


तदा then, विभीषणः Vibheeshana, हृष्टः happy, महात्मना great self, लक्ष्मणेन by Lakshmana, रावणेः Ravana, शिरः head, छिन्नम् severed, रामाय to Rama, न्यवेदयत informed

Then Vibheeshana gladly informed Rama that Ravana's son's head had been severed by great Lakshmana.
श्रुत्वैवतुमहावीर्योलक्षणनेन्द्रजिद्वधम् ।

प्रहर्षमतुलंलेभेवाक्यंचेदमुवाच ह ।।6.92.7।।


महावीर्यः great hero, लक्ष्मणेन by Lakshmana, इन्द्रजिद्वधम् Indrajith is killed, श्रुत्वैवतु on hearing, अतुलम् very, प्रहर्षम् glad, लेभेimmediately, इदम् this, वाक्यं च words, उवाच ह spoken

As soon as Lakshmana said that Indrajith was killed, Rama was very glad and immediately spoke as follows.
साधुलक्ष्मणतुष्टोऽस्मिकर्मचासुकरंकृतम् ।

रावणेर्हिविनाशेनजितमुत्यपधारय ।।6.92.8।।


लक्ष्मण Lakshmana, साधु well done, तुष्टः glad, अस्मि am, असुकरम् difficult, कर्म deed, कृतम् done, रावणेःIndarjith, विनाशेन by his fall, जितम् इति winning this, उपधारयhas been achieved

"Well done, Lakshmana! I am glad. A difficult deed has been done. By the fall of Indrajith success has been achieved."
स तंशिरस्युपाघ्रायलक्ष्मणंकीर्तिवर्धनम् ।

लज्जमानंबलात्स्नेहादङ्गमारोप्यवीर्यवान् ।।6.92.9।।

उपवेश्यतमुत्सङ्गेपरिष्वज्यावपीडितम् ।

भ्रातरंलक्ष्मणंस्निग्धंपुनःपुनरुदैक्षत ।।6.92.10।।


वीर्यवान् valiant, सःhe, कीर्तिवर्धनम् enhancer of glory, तंलक्ष्मणम् him, Lakshmana, शिरसि head, उपाघ्राय bending, लज्जमानम् shy, स्नेहात् lovingly, बलात् forcibly, अङ्कम्, आरोप्य drawing, भ्रातरम्brother, तंलक्ष्मणम् that Lakshmana, उत्सङ्गेlap, उपवेश्य making him sit, अवपीडतम् wounded, परिष्वज्य examining, स्निग्धम् red, पुनःपुनःagain and again, उदैक्षत looked at him

Bending the head of Lakshmana, a valiant one and enhancer of glory, who was shy of praising him, Rama lovingly, forcibly drawing him onto his lap and making him sit on examined again and again the wounded body and looked at him.
शल्यसंपीडितंशस्तंनिःश्वसन्तंतुंलक्ष्मणम् ।

रामस्तुदुःखसन्तप्तंतंतुनिःश्वासपीडितम् ।।6.92.11।।

मूर्ध्निचैनमुपाघ्रायभूयःसंस्पृश्य च त्वरन् ।

उवाचलक्ष्मणंवाक्यमाश्वास्यपुरुषर्षभः ।।6.92.12।।


पुरुषर्षभः bull among men, शल्यसम्पीडितम् tormented body arrows, शस्तम् by arrows, निःश्वसन्तम् breathing heavily, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, दुःखसन्तप्तम् immersed in pain, निःश्वासपीडितम् breathing hard, तम् him, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, भूयःagain, संस्पृश्य stroking him, आश्वास्य restoring his confidence, त्वरन्quickly, वाक्यम् words, उवाच spoke

Lakshmana, a bull among men, body tormented by arrows, immersed in pain, breathing heavily. Rama stroking him, restoring his confidence, quickly spoke as follows.
कृतंपरमकळ्याणंकर्मदुष्करकर्मणा ।

अद्यमन्येहतेपुत्रेरावणंनिहतंयुधि ।।6.92.13।।


दुष्करकर्मणा one who does What is difficult for others, परमकळ्याणम् deed which is extremely auspicious (beneficial), कर्म action, कृतम् done, अद्य now, पुत्रे son, हते killed, युधि in battle, रावणम् Ravana, निहतम् also killed, मन्ये think

"You have done an extremely beneficial task which is difficult for others to do. I think Ravana is killed in the battle with your action of killing Indrajith."
अद्याहंविजयीशत्रौहतेतस्मिन् दुरात्मनि ।

रावणस्यनृशंसस्यदिष्ट्यावीरत्वयारणे ।।6.92.14।।

छिन्नोहिदक्षिणोबाहुः स हितस्यव्यपाश्रयः ।

विभीषणहनूमद्भ्यांकृतंकर्ममहद्रणे ।।6.92.15।।


वीर hero, दुरात्मनि evil minded, तस्मिन् his, शत्रौ arrows, हते killed, अद्य now, अहम्I, विजयी victorious, रणे in battle, त्वया by you, दिष्ट्या, नृशंसस्य, रावणस्य Ravana's, दक्षिणःright, बाहुःhand, छिन्नोहि shattered, सः he, तस्य his, व्यपाश्रयःहि taking refuge, रणे in combat, विभीषणहनूमद्भ्याम् by Vibheeshana and Hanuman, महत् great, कर्म action, कृतम् was done

'Ravana was depending on Indrajith indeed. Now by that a great action of severing his right hand in comb at by Vibheeshana and Hanuman, I consider victorious.'
अहोरात्रैस्त्रिभिर्वीरःकथञ्चितवन्दिपातितः ।

विरमित्रःकृतोऽस्म्यद्यनिर्यास्यतिहिरावणः ।।6.92.16।।

बलव्यूहेनमहताश्रुत्वापुत्त्रंनिपातितम् ।


वीरः hero, त्रिभिः three, अहोरात्रैः nights, कथञ्चित् indeed, विनिपातितः made short, अद्य now, निरमित्रः rid of enemy, कृतःdoneअस्मि I, रावणः Ravana's, पुत्रम् son, निपातितम् made short, श्रुत्वा hearing, महता large, बलव्यूहेन army troop निर्यास्यतिहि will come and return

'Hero! In three days and nights indeed, you have made short of Indrajith. Hearing that Ravana's son has been made short of, Ravana will come now with large army troops.'
तंपुत्रवधसन्तप्तंनिर्यान्तंराक्षसाधिपम् ।।6.92.17।।

बलेनावृत्यमहतानिहनिष्यामिदुर्जयम् ।


पुत्रवधसन्तप्तम् sad about son's death, निर्यान्तम् coming forth, दुर्जयम् difficult to win, तं him राक्षसाधिपम् Rakshasa Lord, महता huge, बलेन with army, आवृत्य turning towards, निहनिष्यामि will put an end to him

'On hearing of his son's death, the Rakshasa Lord will come forth with a huge army. Turning towards him I will put an end to him.'
त्वयालक्ष्मणनाथेनसीता च पृथिवी च मे ।।6.92.18।।

न दुष्प्रापाहतेतस्मिन् शक्रजेतरिचाहवे ।


लक्ष्मण Lakshmana, नाथेन protector, त्वया by you, आहवे myself, तस्मिन् your शक्रजेतरि Indra's enemy, हते killed, मे my, सीता Sita, पृथिवी च and earth also, दुष्प्रापा difficult, न not

Lakshmana, with you as my protector and Indra's enemy killed, neither Sita nor earth will be difficult to get back.
सतंभ्रातरमाश्वास्यपरिष्वज्य च राघवः ।।6.92.19।।

रामःसुषेणंमुदितस्समाभाष्येदमब्रवीत् ।


राघवः Raghava, सःरामः that Rama, तंभ्रातरम् his brother, आश्वास्य restored confidence, परिष्वज्य च embraced, मुदितः happily, सुषेणम् Sushena, समाभाष्य inviting, इदम् thus, अब्रवीत् spoke

Rama, the celebrated scion of Raghu dynasty, restored the confidence of Lakshmana and embraced him happily. He invited Sushena and spoke as follows.
सशल्योऽयंमहाप्राज्ञस्सौमित्रिर्मित्रवत्सलः ।।6.92.20।।

यथाभवतिसुस्वस्थस्तथात्वंसमुपाचर ।


महाप्राज्ञः very wise, मित्रवत्सलः loved by friends, सशल्यः those arrows, अयंसौमित्रिः this Saumithri, सुस्वस्थः paining, यथा like this, भवति you may, तथा that way, त्वम् you, समुपाचर treat him

"O very wise Sushena! Treat Saumithri in such a way that this Lakshmana, loved by friends pained by the arrows pierced, will be relieved."
विशल्यःक्रियतांक्षिप्रंसौमित्रिस्सविभीषणः ।।6.92.21।।

ऋक्ष्वानरसैन्यानांशूराणांद्रुमयोधिनाम् ।

येचाप्यन्येऽत्रयुध्यन्तिसशल्याव्रणिनस्तथा ।।6.92.22।।

तेऽपिसर्वेप्रयत्नेनक्रियन्तांसुखिनस्तथा ।


सविभीषणः that Vibheeshana, सौमित्रिः Saumithri, क्षिप्रम् quickly, विशल्यः, क्रियताम् be treated, ऋक्ष्वानरसैन्यानाम् army of Bears, द्रुमयोधिनाम् who fight with trees, शूराणाम् heroes, ये च they also, अन्ये others, अत्र there, युध्यन्ति in the battle, सशल्याः the arrows, तथा so also, व्रणिनः wounds, तेसर्वेऽपि of all also, तथा so also, प्रयत्नेन by effort, सुखिनः make happy, क्रियन्ताम् healed

"Let Vibheeshana and Saumithri be treated quickly. Let all the army of Bears and others who fought with trees, and the heroes be treated. Let all others who fought in the battlefield and wounded be also healed by your effort and make them happy."
एवमुक्तस्तुरामेणमहात्माहरियूथपः ।।6.92.23।।

लक्ष्मणायदरौनस्तस्सुषेणःपरमौषधम् ।


रामेण by Rama, एवम् in that way, उक्तः spoken, महात्मा great self, हरियूथपःVanara leader, सःसुषेणः that Sushena, लक्ष्मणाय to Lakshman, नस्तः through nose, परमौषधम् supreme medicine, ददौ gave

Spoken by Rama in that manner, the great Vanara leader, Sushena gave supreme medicine to Lakshman through his nose.
स तस्यगन्धमाघ्रायविशल्यस्समपद्यत ।।6.92.24।।

तदानिर्वेदनश्चैवसंरूढव्रणएव च ।


सः he, तदा then, तस्य his, गन्धम् fragrance, आघ्राय breathing in, विशल्यः, निर्वेदनश्चैव freed from arrows, संरूढव्रणएव च rid of pain from wounds, समपद्यत restored to normal state

He then inhaled the fragrance and got freed from arrows, the pain of wounds and restored to normal state.
विभीषणमुखानां च सुहृदांराघवाज्नाया ।।6.92.25।।

सर्ववानरमुख्यानांचिकित्सामकरोत्तदा ।


तदा then, राघवाज्ञज्नाया by Rama's order, विभीषणमुखानाम् Vibheeshana and other leaders, सुहृदाम् friends, सर्ववानरमुख्यानाम् all Vanara leaders, चिकित्साम् having treated, अकरोत् performed

Then by Rama's order Vibheeshana and other friends and all Vanara leaders were healed.
ततःप्रकृतिमापन्नोहृतशल्योगतव्यथ: ।।6.92.26।।

सौमित्रिर्मुदितस्तत्र क्षणेन विगतज्वरः ।


ततः then, सौमित्रिः Saumithri, हृतशल्यः freed from arrows, गतव्यथ: relieved from pain, विगतज्वरः anguish gone, क्षणेन in a moment, प्रकृतिम् nature, आपन्नः having restored, तत्र there, मुमुदे happy

Then Saumithri, freed from arrows, relieved from pain, anguish gone in a moment, and naturally restored, was happy.
तदैवरामःप्लवगाधिपस्तथाविभीषणश्चर्क्षपतिश्चजाम्बवान् ।

आवेक्ष्यसौमित्रिमरोगमुथतितंमुदाससैन्यास्सुचिरंजहर्षिरे ।।6.92.27।।


तदैव at that time, रामः Rama, तथा so also, प्लवगाधिपः monkey leader, विभीषणश्च at Vibheeshana, जाम्बवान् Jambavan, क्षपतिश्च with their, ससैन्याः with army, आरोगम् free from wounds, उथतितम् getting up, सौमित्रिम् Saumithri, आवेक्ष्य seeing, सुचिरम् long time, जहर्षिरे full of joy

At that time, Rama, also the monkey leader, and Vibheeshana, Jambavan with their army seeing Lakshmana getting up, free from wounds were full of joy.
अपूजयत्कर्म स लक्ष्मणस्यसुदुष्करंदाशरथिर्महात्मा ।

बभूवहृष्टोवानरेन्द्रोनिशम्यतंशक्रजितंनिपातितम् ।।6.92.28।।


महात्मा great self, सःदाशरथिः that Dasharatha's son, लक्ष्मणस्य Lakshmana's, सुदुष्करम् very difficult, कर्म deed, अपूजयत् praised, वानरेन्द्रः Vanara king, तंशक्रजितम् that victory over Indrajith, युधि in battle, निपातितम् fallen, निशम्य struck, सृष्टःdelighted, बभूव moved

Rama, the great son of Dasharatha, praised Lakshmana and others for the very difficult deed performed by them. Vanara leaders were very happy with the victory over Indrajith struck down and fallen.
।। इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेद्विनवतितमस्सर्गः ।।
This is the end of the ninety second sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
