[Ravana laments over Indrajith's death, departs to kill Sita. Suparsva prevents Ravana from the dastardly action.]

ततःपौलस्त्यसचिवा्श्रुत्वाचेन्द्रजितोवधम् ।

आचचक्षुरभिज्ञायदशग्रीवायसव्यथा: ।।6.93.1।।


ततः then, पौलस्त्यसचिवाः ministers of Paulastya (Ravana of Paulastya dynasty), इन्द्रजितःIndrajith, वधम् killed, श्रुत्वा hearing, सव्यथा: distressing, अभिज्ञाय having known, दशग्रीवाय to tenheaded Ravana, आचचक्षुः reported

Then, having known about the distressing fall of Indrajith, the ministers of Ravana reported to the tenheaded Ravana.
युद्धेहतोमहाराजलक्ष्मणेनतवात्मजः ।

विभीषणसहायेनमिषतांनोमहाद्युतिः ।।6.93.2।।


महाराज O King, तव your, महाद्युतिः highly glorious, आत्मजः son, युद्धे in battle, नः not, मिषताम् all of us were seeing, विभीषणसहायेन assisted by Vibheeshana, लक्ष्मणेन by Lakshmana, हतः killed

"O King! Your glorious son was killed by Lakshmana with the assistance of Vibheeshana, as we were witnessing."
शूरंशूरेणसम्गम्यसम्युगेष्वपराजितः ।

लक्ष्मणेनहतश्शूरःपुत्रस्तेमहेन्द्रजित् ।।6.93.3।।

गतस्सपरमान्लोकान्शरैस्सन्ताप्यलक्ष्मणम् ।


शूरः arrows, सम्युगेषु in war, अपराजितः never defeated, तेपुत्रः your son, विबुधेन्द्रिजित् who won the ruler of gods, सम्गम्य fighting and fighting, हतः killed, सः he, शरैः arrows, लक्ष्मणम् by Lakshmana, सन्ताप्य ascended, परमान् लोकान् higher world, गतः went

उपलभ्यचिरात्संज्ञां राजाराक्षसपुङ्गव ।।6.93.5।।

पुत्रशोकाकुलोदीनोविललापाकुलेन्द्रियः ।

Coming to senses after a long time, the Rakshasa king Ravana, dejected with sorrow of his son's death, lost senses, lamented.
हाराक्षसचमूमुख्यममवत्समहाबल ।।6.93.6।।

जित्वेन्द्रंकथमद्यत्वंलक्ष्मणस्यवशंगतः ।


हा ha, राक्षसचमूमुख्य Rakshasa army chief, ममवत्स my son, महाबल might, इन्द्रम् Indra, जित्वा had won, त्वम् such, अद्य now, कथम् how, लक्ष्मणस्य Lakshmana's, वशंगतः was a victim

'My son who was a chief of the Rakshasa army, a mighty one, who has won even Indra, how has he become a victim of Lakshmana'?
ननुत्वमिषुभिःक्रुद्धोभिन्द्याःकालान्तकावपि ।।6.93.7।।

मन्दरस्यापिशृङ्गाणिकिंपुनर्लक्ष्मणंयुधि ।


क्रुद्धः angry, त्वम् you, इषुभिः arrows, कालान्तकौअपि like time spirit, मन्दरस्य Mandara mountain, शृङ्गाण्यपि the peak of, भिन्द्याः will pierce, ननुयुधि in battle, लक्ष्मणम् Lakshmana, किंपुनः why again

'When angry, you could pierce with arrows even the time spirit or peak of Mandara mountain, why to speak of Lakshmana again'?
अद्यवैनस्वतोराजाभूयोबहुमतोमम ।।6.93.8।।

येनाद्यत्वंमहाबाहो संयुक्तःकालधर्मणा ।


महाबाहो mightyarmed, येन by this, अद्य today, त्वम् you, कालधर्मणा by virtue of Time, संयुक्तः joining, वैवस्वतः Yama, राजा king, मम my, अद्य today, भूयः become, बहुमतः esteemed

'O mighty armed! Today by virtue of time you have joined Yama and become esteemed King'.
एषपन्थाःसुयोधानांसर्वामरगणेष्वपि ।।6.93.9।।

यःकृतेहन्यतेभर्तुस्सपुमान्स्वर्गमृच्छति ।


सर्वामरगणेष्वपि noble warriors, सुयोधानाम् path trodden, एषःin that way, पन्थाः path, यः that which, भर्तुःकृते for the king, हन्यते is killed, सःपुमान् man, स्वर्गम् heaven, ऋच्छति attains

'Killed in war for the cause of the king and treading the path of noble warriors, one attains the heaven. Even for a human it is desirable'.
अद्यदेवगणास्सर्वेलोकपालामहर्षयः ।।6.93.10।।

हतमिन्द्रजितंदृष्टवासुखंस्वप्स्यन्तिनिर्भयाः ।


अद्य today, इन्द्रजितम् Indrajith, हतम् killed, दृष्टवा seeing, सर्वे all, देवगणाः Devatas in heaven groups, लोकपालाः guardians of the worlds, महर्षयः great sages, निर्भयाः fearless, सुखम् happy, स्वप्स्यन्ति comfortably

'Today, seeing Indrajith killed, Devatas in heaven, guardians of the worlds, great sages would be fearless and be happy and comfortable'.
अद्यलोकास्त्रय: कृत्स्नापृथिवी च सकानना ।।6.93.11।।

एकेनेन्द्रजिताहीनाशून्येवप्रतिभातिमे ।


अद्य today, एकेन alone, इन्द्रजिता Indrajith, हीना without, सकानना forest, कृत्स्ना dark, पृथिवी earth, मे me, शून्येव desolate, प्रतिभाति lustreless, त्रयः three, लोकाः worlds

Today without Indrajith alone the three worlds (earth, heaven, and underworld) including forests are desolate, dark, and lustreless to me.
अद्यनैरृतकन्यानांश्रोष्याम्यन्तःपुरेरवम् ।।6.93.12।।

करेणुसङ्घस्ययथानिनादंगिरिगह्वरे ।


अद्य today, अन्तःपुरे in the gynaecium, नैरृतकन्यानाम् Rakshasa maidens, रवम् cries, गिरिगह्वरे in the caves, करेणुसङ्घस्य like elephants, निनादंयथा roaring like, श्रोष्यामि will hear

'Today in the gynaecium we will hear the cries of Rakshasa maidens like the roaring of elephants in the cave'.
यौवराज्यं च लङ्कां च रक्षांसि च परन्तप ।।6.93.13।।

मातरंमां च भार्याश्चक्वगतोऽसिविहायनः ।


परन्तप scourge of enemies, यौवराज्यं च prince regent, लङ्कां च from Lanka, रक्षांसि च Rakshasas of Lanka, मातरम् mother, मां च me also, भार्याश्च wife also, नःविहाय left, क्व why, गतःwent असि you

'O Scourge of enemies! You have left giving up prince regent, Rakshasas, from Lanka, your mother, me, and your wife also. And went. Why'?
ममनामत्वयावीरगतस्ययमसादनम् ।।6.93.14।।

प्रेतकार्याणिकार्याणिविपरीतेहिवर्तसे ।


वीर hero, यमसादनम् abode of Yama, तस्य its, मम my, प्रेतकार्याणि obsequies, त्वया by you, कार्याणि performed, विपरीते peculiar, वर्तसेहि I have to do

'O hero! My obsequies should have been done by you. It is peculiar that I have to perform'.
स त्वंजीवतिसुग्रीवेलक्ष्मणेन च राघवे ।।6.93.15।।

ममशल्यमनुद्धृत्यक्वगतोऽसिविहायनः ।


सःत्वम् you, सुग्रीवे Sugriva, जीवति living, लक्ष्मणेन Lakshmana, राघवे Raghava, मम me, शल्यम् arrow, अनुद्धृत्य deserting, नः not, विहाय doing, क्व where, गतःअसि have you gone

'While Sugriva is living, Lakshmana and Raghava also, deserting me, you have gone. Where have you gone'?
एवमादिविलापार्तंरावणंराक्षसाधिपम् ।।6.93.16।।

आविवेशमहान् कोपःपुत्रव्यसनसम्भवः ।


एवमादिविलापार्तम् lamenting in this way, distressed, राक्षसाधिपम् Rakshasa king, रावणम् Ravana, पुत्रव्यसनसम्भवः sorrow of son deserting, महान् very कोपः angry, अविवेश took over

Distressed Ravana was lamenting in this way on account of his son deserting, as anger had taken over him.
प्रकृत्याकोपनंह्येनंपुत्रस्यपुनराधयः ।।6.93.17।।

दीप्तंसन्दीपयामासुर्घर्मेऽर्कमिवरश्मयः ।


प्रकृत्या by nature, कोपनम् angry, एनम् that too, पुत्रस्य son, आधयः now, घर्मे righteous, दीप्तम् glowing, अर्कम् sun, रश्मयः इव beams off sun, पुनःagain, सन्दीपयामासुः makes him brighter

By nature, he is angry. Now with the loss of his son, he was glowing like the Sun that shines brighter by the rays in summer.
ललाटेभ्रुकुटीभिश्चसङ्गताभिर्व्यरोचत ।।6.93.18।।

युगान्तेसहनक्रैस्तुमहोर्मिभिरिवोदधिः ।


ललाटे forehead, सङ्गताभिः contracted, भ्रुकुटीभिः eyebrows, युगान्ते at the end of universe, सहनक्रैः with crocodiles, महोर्मिभिः great ocean, उदधिःइव like waves, व्यरोचत shone

Ravana's eyebrows contracted on his forehead, he shone like the waves in the great ocean with crocodiles at the time of dissolution of the universe.
कोपाद्विजृम्भमाणस्यवक्त्राद्व्यक्तमिवज्वलन् ।।6.93.19।।

उत्पपातसधूमानगिर्वृत्रस्यवदनादिव ।


कोपात् in anger, विजृम्भमाणस्य yawned, वक्त्रात् mouth, व्यक्तम् spoke, ज्वलन्निव like flame, वृत्रस्यVrtra's, वदनादिव face like, सधूमानगिः fire with smoke, उत्पपात burst forth

As Ravana yawned in anger, fire with smoke burst forth from his mouth like Vrtra'.
स पुत्रवधसन्तप्तश्शूरःक्रोधवशंगतः ।।6.93.20।।

समीक्ष्यरावणोबुद्ध्यावैदेह्यारोचयद्वधम् ।


पुत्रवधसन्तप्तः pondering over the death of son, शूरः asura, सःरावणः that Ravana, क्रोधवशम् overtaken by fury, गतःwent, बुद्ध्या thinking in mind, समीक्ष्य reviewed, वैदेह्याःVaidehi's, वधम् destruction, रोचयत् thought

Pondering over the death of his asura son, Ravana was overtaken by fury, and reviwed thinking about the destruction of Vaidehi.
तस्यप्रकृत्यारक्ते च रक्तेक्रोथानगिनापि च ।।6.93.21।।

रावणस्यमहाघोरेदीप्तेनेत्रेबभूवतुः ।


तस्यरावणस्य Ravana's, प्रकृत्या nature, रक्ते च red, क्रोधानगिनापि च through the fire of anger, रक्ते red, महाघोरे very dreadful, नेत्रे eyes, दीप्ते glowing, बभूवतुःshone

By nature, Ravana's eyes are red, through the fire of anger it was even more red glowing and very dreadful.
घोरंप्रकृत्यारूपंतत्तस्यक्रोधाग्निमूर्छितम् ।।6.93.22।।

बभूवरूपंक्रुद्धस्यरुद्रस्येवदुरासदम् ।


प्रकृत्या naturally, घोरम् dreadful, क्रोधाग्निमूर्छितम् deluded with fire of anger, तस्य his, तत् रूपम् that form, क्रुद्धस्य due to fury, रुद्रस्यइव like Rudra's, दुरासदम् threatening, बभूवappeared

His eyes are naturally dreadful, deluded with fire of anger his form was like Rudra's and threatening.
तस्यक्रुद्धस्यनेत्राभ्यांप्रापतन्नाश्रृबिन्दवः ।।6.93.23।।

दीपाभ्यामिवदीप्ताभ्यांसार्चिषस्स्नेहबिन्दवः ।


क्रुद्धस्य enraged, तस्य his, नेत्राभ्याम् from both eyes, दीप्ताभ्याम् flaming, दीपाभ्याम् flaming lamp, सार्चिषः flaming, स्नेहबिन्दवः drops of oil, अश्रुबिन्दवः drops of tears, प्रापतन् dropped

Just as drops of oil drop from flaming lamps, tears dropped from his enraged flaming eyes.
दन्तावनिदशतस्तस्यश्रूयतेदशनस्वनः ।।6.93.24।।

यन्त्रस्यावेष्ट्यमाणस्य महतो दानवैरिव ।


दन्तान् teeth, विदशतः biting, तस्य his, दशनस्वनः sound from his teeth, दानवैः by Danavas, आवेष्ट्यमाणस्य revolved round, महतः huge, यन्त्रस्येव machine like, श्रूयते heard

When he was biting on his teeth (enraged), the sound from his teeth resembled the sound of a grinder revolved round by Danavas.
कालानगिरिवसङ्क्रुद्धोयांयांदिशमवैक्षत ।।6.93.25।।

तस्यांतस्यांभयत्रस्ताराक्षसास्सन्विलियलिरे ।


कालानगिरिव like fire of universal destruction, सङ्क्रुद्धः highly enraged, यांयाम् wherever, दिशम् direction, अवैक्षत looking, तस्यांतस्याम् in those and those, राक्षसाः Rakshasa, भयत्रस्ताः fearing, संविलियलिरे hid themselves

Fearing Ravana who was enraged like the time of universal destruction, the Rakshasashid themselves in the very quarter he was looking.
तमन्तकमिवक्रुद्धंचराचरचिखादिषुम् ।।6.93.26।।

वीक्षमाणंदिशस्सर्वाराक्षसानोपचक्रमुः ।


चराचरचिखादिषुम् moving and unmoving creation, क्रुद्धम् angry, अन्तकमिव like god of death, सर्वाःall, दिशःdirections, वीक्षमाणम् looking, तम् him, राक्षसाः Rakshasas, नोपचक्रमुःcould not go near

The Rakshasas could not go near Ravana who was moving in anger in all directions like the moving and unmoving creations move when chased by the god of death.
ततःपरमसङ्क्रुद्धोरावणोराक्षसाधिपः ।।6.93.27।।

अब्रवीद्रक्षसांमध्येसंस्तम्भयिषुराहवे ।


ततः then, परमसङ्क्रुद्धः very angry, राक्षसाधिपः Rakshasa king, रावणः Ravana, आहवे battle, संस्तंभयिषुः provoke, रक्षसाम् Rakshasas, मध्ये midst, अब्रवीत् spoke

To provoke Rakshasas for battle, an angry Ravana, the king of Rakshasas, spoke as follows.
मयावर्षसहस्राणिचरित्वापरमंतपः ।।6.93.28।।

तेषुतेष्ववकाशेषुस्वयम्भूःपरितोषितः ।


मया by me, वर्षसहस्राणि thousand years, परमम् supreme, तपः austerities, चरित्वा having done, तेषुतेषु several times, अवकाशेषु in that occasion, स्वयम्भूः selfborn creator, परितोषितःpleased him

'I have done penance for thousands of years several times and am a pleased selfborn creator'.
तस्यैवतपसोव्युष्ट्याप्रसादाच्छस्वयम्भुवः ।।6.93.29।।

नासुरेभ्यो न देवेभ्योभयंममकदाचन ।


तस्य by that, तपसःएव penance alone, वुष्ट्या power, स्वयम्भुवःcreator Brahma, प्रसादाच्छhaving been pleased, मम to me, कदाचनonce, असुरेभ्यः from Asuras, भयम् fear, न not, देवेभ्यः Devas, न no

'By the power of the penancedone by me once, creator Brahma has given me reward, pleased with my penance. I have no fear of Asuras or Devas'.
कवचंब्रह्मदत्तंमेयदादित्यसमप्रभम् ।।6.93.30।।

देवासुरविमर्धेषु न भिन्नंवज्रमुष्टिभिः ।


मे I, ब्रह्मदत्तम् given by Brahma, आदित्यसमप्रभम् effulgent like sun, यत् that which, कवचम् shield, देवासुरविमर्धेषु Deva and Asura conflicts, वज्रमुष्टिभिः thunder bolts in their fists, न भिन्नम् not break

'I was given a shield by Brahma, effulgent like the Sun which the Devas or Danavas could not break with their thunderbolt fists'.
तेनमामद्यसम्युक्तंरथस्थमिहसम्युगे ।।6.93.31।।

प्रतीयात्कोऽद्यमामाजौसाक्षादपिपुरन्दरः ।


अद्य today, इह here, सम्युगे in battle, तेन by that, सम्युक्तम् together, रथस्थम् mounted on chariot, माम् me, अद्य today, कः who, आजौ can dare to oppose,, साक्षात् openly, पुरन्दरः Indra, अपि also, प्रतीयात् dare to with stand

'Today if I, with that shield mounted the chariot go for battle, who can dare to withstand me openly? Even Indra can't'.
त्तदातिप्रसन्नेनसशरंकार्मुकंमहत् ।।6.93.32।।

देवासुरविमर्धेषुममदत्तंस्वयम्भुवा ।

अद्यतूर्यशतैर्भीमंधनुरुत्थाप्यतांमम ।।6.93.33।।

रामलक्ष्मणयोरेववधायपरमाहवे ।


देवासुरविमर्धेषु when Devas and Asuras fought, तदा then, अतिप्रसन्नेन very pleased, स्वयम्भुवा creator Brahma, सशरम् that arrow, महत् great, यत् which, कार्मुकम् bow, परमाहवे supreme one, रामलक्ष्मणयोः with Rama and Lakshmana, वधायैव for destruction, अद्य today, तूर्यशतैः hundreds of trumpets, उत्थाप्यताम् be brought

'Let that supreme bow and the great arrows bestowed to me, by Brahma the creator who was pleased, when I fought in battle between Devas and Asuras, be brought to destroy Rama and Lakshmana today accompanied by hundreds of trumpets.'
स पुत्रवधसन्तप्तःक्रूरःक्रोधवशंगतः ।।6.93.34।।

समीक्ष्यरावणोबुद्ध्यासीतांहन्तुंव्यवस्यत ।


पुत्रवधसन्तप्तः very sad about the death of son, क्रूरः cruel, सःरावणः that Ravana, क्रोधवशम् overpowered by anger, गतः went, बुद्ध्या to destroy, समीक्ष्य thinking, सीताम् Sita, हन्तुम् will kill, व्यवस्यत deciding

Feeling very sad about the death of his son, cruel Ravana overpowered by anger went thinking to destroy Sita.
प्रत्यवेक्ष्यताम्राक्षस्सुघोरोघोरदर्शनः ।।6.93.35।।

दीनोदीनस्वरान्सर्वांस्तानुवाचनिशाचरान् ।


ताम्राक्षः redeyed, सुघोरः very dreadful, घोरदर्शनः frightening looks, दीनः despearte, दीनस्वरान् in low voice, तान् he, सर्वान् all, निशाचरान् Rakshasas, प्रत्यवेक्ष्य looking at, उवाच spoke

Redeyed Ravana, looking dreadful with a frightening face, desperate, spoke in a low voice to all Rakshasas as follows.
माययाममवत्सेनवञ्चनार्थंवनौकसाम् ।।6.93.36।।

किञ्चिदेवहतंतत्रसीतेयमितिदर्शितम् ।


मम my, वत्सेन son, मायया by hoodwinking, वनौकसाम् the Vanaras, वञ्चनार्थम् to cheat them, तत्र there, किञ्चिदेव something which was there, हतम् killed, इयम् this, सीताइति Sita, दर्शितम् showed

'My son showed the Vanaras there something which had been killed there to hoodwink as Sita."
तदिदंतथ्यमेवाहंकरिष्येप्रियमात्मनः ।।6.93.37।।

वैदेहींनाशयिष्यामिक्षत्रबन्धुमनुव्रताम् ।

इत्येवमुक्त्वासचिवान्खङ्गमाशुपरामृशत् ।।6.93.38।।


अहम् I, आत्मनः myself, प्रियम् rejoice, तत् इदम् that now, तथ्यमेव in the same way, करिष्ये will do, क्षत्रबन्धुम् lowly kshatriya, अनुव्रताम् very dear, वैदेहीम् Vaidehi, नाशयिष्यामि will destroy, सचिवान् ministers, इत्येवम् thus, उक्त्वा spoken, आशु his, खङ्गम् sword, परामृशत्taken

"I myself will rejoice now in the same way (as Indarjith had done for cheating) making it true. I will destroy that lowly kshatriya, Rama's very dear Vaidehi". Having spoken like that to the ministers he took up the sword."
उत्प्लुत्यगुणसम्पन्नंविमलाम्बरवर्चसम् ।

निष्पपात स वेगेनसभार्यःसचिवैर्वृतः ।।6.93.39।।

रावणःपुत्रशोकेनभृशमाकुलचेतनः ।

सङ्क्रुद्धःखडगमादायसहसायत्रमैथिली ।।6.93.40।।


विमला pure, अम्बर sky, वर्चसम् shine, गुणसम्पन्नं excellent, उत्प्लुत्य taking, स वेगेन instantly, सभार्यःaccompanied by wife, सचिवैर्वृतः surrounded by ministers, रावणः Ravana, पुत्रशोकेन on account of sorrow by the death of his son, भृशमाकुलचेतनः utterly confused, सङ्क्रुद्धः enraged, खडगमादाय taking sword, सहसा, यत्र there, मैथिलीMythili

In a totally confused state on account of the death of his son, he went to Mythili taking the excellent sword, which was shining resembling pure sky, feeling enraged, accompanied by his wife, and surrounded by the ministers.
व्रजन्तंराक्षसंप्रेक्ष्यसिंहनादंविचक्रुशुः ।

ऊचुश्चान्योन्यमालिङ्ग्यसङ्क्रुद्धंप्रेक्ष्यराक्षसम् ।।6.93.41।।


व्रजन्तम् in the abode, राक्षसम् Rakshasas, प्रेक्ष्य observing, सिंहनादम् lion roar, विचुक्रुशुः emitted,, संक्रुद्धम् very furious, राक्षसम् Rakshasa, प्रेक्ष्य seeing, अन्योन्यम् one another, आलिङ्ग्य embracing, ऊचुश्च spoke to one another

( As Ravana marched) the Rakshasas in the abode roared like a lion seeing enraged Ravana and embraced each other (thinking of Ravana's victory) and spoke to one another.
अद्यैनंतावुभौदृष्टवाभ्रातरौप्रव्यधिष्यतः ।

लोकपालाहिचत्वारःक्रुद्धेनानेनतर्जिताः ।।6.93.42।।

बहवःशत्रवश्चान्येसम्युगेष्वभिपातिताः ।


अद्य now, एनम् that, दृष्टवा seeing, तौ those two, भ्रातरौ brothers, उभौ both, प्रव्यथिष्यतःtremble, क्रुद्धेन fury, अनेन all the, चत्वारःfour, लोकपालाः ruler of the world, तर्जिताःहि would have disappeared, अन्ये others, बहवः many, शत्रवश्चापि enemies, संयुगेषु in wars, अभिपातिताःstruck down

"Seeing Ravana, the two brothers will tremble. By Ravana's fury all the four rulers of the world (Indra, Yama, Varuna, Kubera), would have disappeared. He has struck down many other enemies in wars."
त्रिषुलोकेषुरत्नानिभुङक्तेचाहृत्यरावणः ।।6.93.43।।

विक्रमे च बलेचैवनास्त्यस्यसदृशोभुवि ।


रावणः Ravana, त्रिषु three, लोकेषु worlds, रत्नानि gems, आहृत्य collected, भुङक्ते च as tax, विक्रमे च in might, बलेचैव in prowess also, अस्य his, सदृशःequal, भुवि in the world, नास्ति not there

"Ravana has collected gems from the three worlds as tax. There is none equal to him in might and prowess in this world."
तेषांसञ्जल्पमानामशोकवनिकांगताम् ।।6.93.44।।

अभिदुद्राववैदेहींरावणःक्रोधमूर्छितः ।


तेषाम् in that manner, सञ्जल्पमानानाम् talking to each other, रावणः Ravana, क्रोधमूर्छितः deluded with anger, अशोकवनिकाम् Ashoka grove, गताम् went, वैदेहीम् Vaidehi, अभिदुद्राव went fast

As the Rakshasas were talking in that manner, Ravana, deluded with anger, went fast to Vaidehi in Ashoka grove.
वार्यमाणःसुसङ्क्रुद्धःसुहृद्भिर्हितबुद्धिभिः ।।6.93.45।।

अभ्यधावतसङ्क्रुद्धःखेग्रहोरोहिणीमिव ।


सुसङ्क्रुद्धः highly enraged, हितबुद्धिभिः his wellwishers, सुहृद्भिः friends, वार्यमाणः obstructing, सङ्क्रुद्धः angry Mars, ग्रहःplanet, खे in sky, रोहिणीमिव like Rohini, अभ्यधावत darted

Highly enraged Ravana, darted just as planet Mars rushed to Rohini in the sky, even while his wellwishers were obstructing.
मैथिलीरक्ष्यमाणातुराक्षसीरनिन्दिता ।।6.93.46।।

ददर्शराक्षसंक्रुद्धंनिस्त्रिंशवरधारिणम् ।

तंनिशाम्यसविस्त्रिंशंव्यथिताजनकात्मजा ।।6.93.47।।

निवार्यमाणंबहुशःसुहृद्भिरनिवर्तिनम् ।


मैथिली Mythili,, रक्ष्यमाणा guarded, राक्षसीर, rakshasi women, अनिन्दिता irreproachable, क्रुद्धं angry, राक्षसं Rakshasa, ददर्श seeing, वरधारिणम् bearing an excellent, सनिस्त्रिंशं crossing, निस्त्रिंशम् kept back, सुहृद्भिः friends, बहुशः many times, निवार्यमाणम् obstructed, अनिवर्तिनम् not receding, तम् him, निशाम्य reaching, जनकात्मजा Janaka's daughter, व्यथिता distressed

While irreproachable Mythili was being guarded by rakshasi women, she saw him bearing an excellent sword and crossing. When he was repeatedly stopped by friends and obstructed, he was not receding and reaching Janaka's daughter.
सीतादुःखसमाविष्टाविलपन्तीदमब्रवीत् ।।6.93.48।।

यथायंमामभिक्रुद्धःसमभिद्रवतिस्वयम् ।

वधिष्यतिसनाथांमामनाथामिवदुर्मतिः ।।6.93.49।।


सीता Sita, दुःखसमाविष्टा filled with sorrow, विलपन्ती crying, इदम् this, अब्रवीत् spoke, दुर्मतिः evil minded, अयम् you are, अभिक्रुद्धः angry, यथा so also, माम् me, अभिद्रवति will kill, सनाथाम् with protector, माम् me, अनाथामिव like an orphan, वधिष्यति will kill

Thus spoke Sita filled with sorrow crying," This evil minded angry one is coming to me to kill me as though I am an orphan even though I have a protector."
बहुशश्चोदयामासभर्तारंमामनुव्रताम् ।

भार्याभवरमस्वेतिप्रत्याख्यातोध्रुवंमया ।।6.93.50।।

सोऽयंमामनुपस्थानेव्यक्तंनैराश्यमागतः ।

क्रोधमोहसमाविष्टोनिहन्तुंमांसमुद्यतः ।।6.93.51।।


भर्तारम् husband, अनुव्रताम् devoted, माम् me, भवभार्या his consort, रमस्व revel, इति thus, बहुशः perhaps, चोदयामास entreated, मया by me, ध्रुवम् surely, प्रत्याख्यातः retaliated, सः him अयम् I, अनुपस्थाने having been rejected, माम् by me, व्यक्तम् said, नैराश्यम् dejected, आगतः has come, क्रोधमोहसमाविष्टः filled with anger and infatuation, निहन्तुम् to kill, माम् me, हन्तुम् kill, उद्यतः is evident

'I who am devoted to my husband and this Ravana wanted me to revel with him. He has been entreated by me several times. Surely, he, having been rejected by me is dejected, filled with anger and infatuation, intends to kill me, is evident'.
अथवातौनरव्याघ्रौभ्रातरौरामलक्ष्मणौ ।

मन्निमित्तमनार्येणसमरेऽद्यनिपातितौ ।।6.93.52।।


अथवा or else, नरव्याघ्रौ tiger among men, भ्रातरौ brothers, तौरामलक्ष्मणौ both Rama and Lakshmana, अनार्येण unworthy Ravana, अद्य today, मन्निमित्तम् for my cause, समरे in war, निपातितौ fallen

'Or else, have the two brothers Rama and Lakshmana fallen to unworthy Ravana on my account'?
भैरवोहिमहान्नादोराक्षसानांश्रुतोमया ।

बहूनामिहहृष्टानांतथाविक्रोशतांप्रियम् ।।6.93.53।।


इह here, हृष्टानाम् rejoiced, तथा like that, प्रियम् loving, विक्रोशताम् calling loudly, बहूनाम् many, राक्षसानाम् Rakshasas, भैरवः loud, महान् huge, नादः noise, मया by me, श्रुतःहि was heard

Many Rakshasas rejoiced, calling out their loved ones loudly, making huge noise, were heard.
अहोधिङ्मन्निमित्तोऽयंविनाशोराजपुत्रयोः ।

अथवापुत्रशोकेनअहत्यारामलक्ष्मणौ ।।6.93.54।।

विधमिष्यतिमांरौद्रोराक्षसःपापनिश्चयः ।


अहो, Wow, धिङ्मन्निमित्तोऽयं for my cause, विनाशो destruction, राजपुत्रयोः for the princes,, अथवा or else, पुत्रशोकेन on account of the death of son, अहत्या not able to kill, रामलक्ष्मणौ Rama and Lakshmana, विधमिष्यति who does not hesitate, मां me, रौद्रो fierce, राक्षसः Rakshasa,, पनिश्चयः resolved to kill

Wow! Has the destruction of the two brothers brought about on account of the grief of the death of his son or on my account? Not able to kill Rama and Lakshmana, has this fierce Rakshasa who does not hesitate, resolved to kill me?
हनूमतस्तुतद्वाक्यं न कृतंक्षुद्रयामया ।।6.93.55।।

यद्यहंतस्यपृष्ठेवतदायासमनिर्जिता ।

नाद्यैवमनुशोचेयंभर्तुरङ्कगतासती ।।6.93.56।।


क्षुद्रया foolish woman, मयाI am, हनूमतः Hanuman, तत् then, वाक्यम् words, न कृतम् not did, तदा then, अहम् I, अनिर्जिता mounted, तस्य on his, पृष्ठेन back, अयासंयदि no doubt, भर्तुः husband, अङ्कगतासती on the lap of husband, अद्य now, एवम् in this way, न अनुशोचेयम् not thought over

'I am a foolish woman. I did not follow Hanuman's advice and had I left mounted on his back, no doubt I would be on my husband 's lap. I did not think in this way'.
मन्येतुहृदयंतस्याःकौसल्यायाःफलिष्यति ।

एकपुत्रायदापुत्रंविनष्टंश्रोष्यतेयुधि ।।6.93.57।।


एकपुत्रा only son, यदा this, पुत्रम् son, युधि in battle, विनष्टम् perished, श्रोष्यते will think, तस्याः her, कौसल्यायाः Kausalya's, हृदयम् heart, फलिष्यति break, मन्ये I think

'Kausalya will think her only son has been killed in the battle. I think her heart would break'.
साहिजन्म च बाल्यं च यौवनं च महात्मनः ।

धर्मकार्याणिरूपं च रुदतीसंस्मरिष्यति ।।6.93.58।।


सा she, रुदती crying, महात्मनः great self, जन्म च of his birth, बाल्यं च of childhood also, यौवनं च of youth, धर्मकार्याणि his rightful actions, रूपं च his form, संस्मरिष्यति will keep remembering

'She will be crying and keep remembering his birth, childhood, youth, and his rightful actions, and his charm'.
निराशानिहतेपुत्रेदत्त्वाश्राद्धमचेतना ।

अग्निमावेक्ष्यतेनूनमापोवापिप्रवेक्ष्यति ।।6.93.59।।


पुत्रे O son, निहते killed, निराशा disappointed, अचेतना lost sentience, श्राद्धम् obsequies, दत्त्वा offering, नूनम् surely, अग्निम् in fire, आवेक्ष्यते will keep waiting, आपः water, प्रवेक्ष्यतिवापि may be drown herself

'Son killed, Kausalya will be disappointed, lost sentience will be offering obsequies, surely and enter fire or water and drown'.
धिगस्तुकुब्जामसतींमन्थरांपापनिश्चयाम् ।

यन्निमित्तमिमंशोकंकौसल्याप्रतिपत्स्यते ।।6.93.60।।


कौसल्या Kausalya, यन्निमित्तम् for this reason, इमम् this great, शोकम् grief, प्रतिपत्स्यतेअसतीम् this grief was caused, पापनिश्चयाम् sinful resolve, कुब्जाम् hunchback, मन्थराम् Mandara, धिक् be burnt, अस्तु surely

'Because of the sinful resolve of hunch back Mandara, this grief has come to Kausalya surely. Let her be burnt'.
इत्येवंमैथिलींदृष्टवाविलपन्तींतपस्विनीम् ।

रोहिणीमिवचन्द्रेणविनाग्रहवशंगताम् ।।6.93.61।।

एतस्मिन्नन्तरेतस्यअमात्यःशीलवान् शुचिः ।

सुपार्श्वोनाममेधावीरावणंरक्षसेश्वरम् ।।6.93.62।।

निवार्यमाणःसचिवैरिदंवचनमब्रवीत् ।


इत्येवम् in this manner, विलपन्तीम् grieving, तपस्विनीम् austere, चन्द्रेणविना absence of moon, ग्रहवशम् fallen under the sway of planet, गताम् gone, रोहिणीमिव like Rohini, मैथिलीम् Mythili also, दृष्टवा seeing, मैथिलीम् Mythili, तस्य her, अमात्यः king, शीलवान् upright, शुचिः pure, मेधावी wise, सुपार्श्वोनामSuparsva, सचिवैःministers, निवार्यमाणः stopping, राक्षसेश्वरम् Lord of Rakshasas, रावणम् Ravana, इदम् this, वचनम् words, अब्रवीत् spoke

Seeing Mythili in this manner grieving, just as Rohini fell under the sway of the Mars planet in the absence of the moon, being away from her husband, Suparsva, an upright minister of Ravana who was pure and wise spoke these words of advice to the Lord of Rakshasas in spite of other ministers trying to stop him.
कथंनामदशग्रीव साक्षद्वैश्रवणानुज ।।6.93.63।।

हन्तुमिच्छसिवैदेहींक्रोधाद्धर्ममपास्य च ।


साक्षात् being direct, श्रवाणानुज brother of Kubera, दशग्रीव : ten headed, क्रोधात् in fury, धर्मम् righteousness, अपास्य casting, वैदेहीम् Vaidehi, हन्तुम् kill, कथम् how, इच्छसि do you desire

"You being the direct brother of Kubera (one of the guardians of the world), ten head Lord desires to seek Vaidehi in fury and kill her casting righteousness?"
वेदविद्याव्रतस्नातःस्वकर्मनिरतस्तथा ।।6.93.64।।

स्त्रियःकस्माद्वधंवीरमन्यसेराक्षसेश्वर ।


वीर hero, राक्षसेश्वर Lord of Rakshasas, वेदविद्याव्रतस्नातः made a vow of celibacy essential for study of vedic lore, तथा so also, स्वकर्मनिरतः engaged in you obligatory duties, कस्मात् how, स्त्रियः a woman, वधम् killing, मन्यसे think of

"O Hero! Lord of Rakshasas! You made a vow of celibacy essential for Vedic study, so also engaged in your obligatory duties. Do you think of killing a woman?"
मैथिलींरूपसम्पन्नांप्रत्यवेक्षस्वपार्थिव ।।6.93.65।।

तस्मिन्नेवसहास्माभिराहेवक्रोधमुत्सृज ।


पार्थिव King, रूपसम्पन्नाम् endowed with charm, मैथिलीम् Mythili, प्रत्यवेक्षस्व think over, अस्माभिःसह you also, आहवे in battle, क्रोधम् anger, तस्मिन्नेन him only, उत्त्सृजexhibit

"O King! Mythili is endowed with charm. Your anger may be exhibited on Rama in battle (not Sita)'."
अभ्युत्थानंत्वमद्यैवकृष्णपक्षचतुर्धशीम् ।।6.93.66।।

कृत्वानिर्याह्यमावास्यांविजयायबलैर्वृतः ।


त्वम् you, अद्यैव in this way, कृष्णपक्षचतुर्दशीम् fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, अभ्युत्थानम् starting, कृत्वा doing, बलैः army, वृतः surrounded, अमावास्याम् on the fifteenth day, dark day, विजयाय victory, निर्याहि start

"Today being the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, start on the next day that is the fifteenth dark day surrounded by the army and win."
शूरःधीमान् रथीखडगीरथप्रवमास्थितः ।।6.93.67।।

हत्वादाशरथिंरामंभवान् प्राप्स्यसिमैथिलीम् ।


शूरः shrewd warrior, धीमान् wise, रथी car warrior, खडगी sword, भावन् of yours, रथप्रवरम् foremost chariot, आस्थितः seated, दाशरथिम् Dasharatha's son, रामम् Rama, हत्वा kill, मैथिलीम् Mythili, प्राप्स्यसि attain

"Shrewd carwarrior, you are wise. Seated in the foremost chariot with your sword, kill Dasharatha's son and attain Sita."
स तद्दुरात्मासुहृदानिवेदितंवचःसुधर्म्यंप्रतिगृह्यरावणः ।

गृहंजगामथततश्चवीर्यवान् पुनःसभां च प्रययौसुहृद्वृतः ।।6.93.68।।


दुरात्मा evil minded, रावणः Ravana, सुहृदा friend, निवेदितम् tendered, सुधर्म्यम् righteous, वचः words, प्रतिगृह्य taking, गृहम् seizing, जगाम go, अथ now, वीर्यवान् heroic one, सुहृद्वृतः surrounded by friends, ततः then, पुनःसभां च again to the council, प्रययौ journey

Accepting the righteous words of advice tendered by his friend, evil minded Ravana again went home and started to go to the council.
।। इत्यार्षेवाल्मीकीयेश्रीमद्रामायणेआदिकाव्येयुद्धकाण्डेत्रिनवतितमस्सर्गः ।।
