Kabandha speaks about Matanga asrama to Rama and Lakshmana. “Matanga’s disciples were carrying forest produce for their Guru. When they were tired, their sweat drops fell on the ground and became flowers, so they do not fade. Of those that have gone to heaven, Sabari, the servant of the sages is seen even now. She, who has no sin, is seen. O God, seeing you, she will go to the Vaikuntha the heaven. She has always followed or performed dharma in the form of upasana (meditation). Even though there are elephants in all mountains, there is no movement of elephants in the hermitage of Matanga due to the sage’s power of austerities. On account of the construction of the hermitage by Matanga in that forest, it is known as Matangavana.”
